    This is your best video, yet, Matt! Thanks for the positive, concise short game overview. Positive thoughts are CRUCIAL to hitting better golf shots. Looking forward to putting these ideas into practice on the course this week!

    The best tip that I've ever received for hitting out of the bunker is to really dig in and pretend that the ball is George Washington's face on a $1 bill. When you swing, you want to swipe the entire length of the dollar bill and step forward as you swing all the way through. Gives you a full, detailed ivisual and plan to make that swing.

    • @Mattfryergolf
      @Mattfryergolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good visual! We use a fiver to do that over in England 😉

    I'm new to your channel Matt, loving the tips/content. I'm an 18 handicapper and most of my shots lost are on my short game... the chip shot with the bunker in front of you is one shot I always fear.... always duff it, hopefully this will help! Thanks 👍

    Great vid. Can you answer this please regarding the putting stroke, a lot of people say the back stroke should roughly equal the follow through, however I went for SAM lab putter fitting and they say it should 30:70 ratio?

  • @TheDoom143

    Love #4. Anything under 50 yds is all lob wedge (unless I’m in a bunker). I’m so comfortable with my lob wedge anywhere under 50 so I walk up to the ball already confident

    • @Divided_Highway
      @Divided_Highway 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t have a lob wedge so I do an almost flop shot with a 56 degree or PW and a kinda long bump and run which really works out for me

    Matt, I am putting new irons in the bag and they end with a 46 degree PW. My current wedges are 52, 56 and 60 degrees giving me an 8 degree gap between the PW and the GW. Should I consider switching to a 50, 54 and 58 degree to maintain my gaps?

    Great content in 20 minutes Matt. Very knowledgeable with basic ideas that are really important for short game success.. One question. You failed to mention what degree club you used over the bunker and in the bunker . Just wondering if you used your 52 on whole video . Thanks again for the great stuff. Keep them coming and I'm spreading your name on the range and after my round in the bar of course.....

    I'm 16/17 HCP & chips let me down. I can pick the spot, be positive & hit well but my mishit is a thin shot. Have weight on left etc but somehow thin 50% of my 30-60 yard chips. I have no issue with chip & run as hole many.

    I see way to many high to mid handicaps using the wedge around the green to much. 7/8 iron on most of the shots give much better results as long as there’s no high ground/bunkers to go over.

    Your course do not have the sand that all you have. Are sand is what we call more of a hard pan sand. If I hit the ball out of the sand the way you show during your instruction tips, I would brake something. So do you have any instruction to hi ot of compacted sand?

  • @gmuzz

    Between the three of ya...Rick, Pete, and yourself, you’ve got loads of things to focus on and learn from! I mean just brilliant instructions from all of ya and really fun videos to watch when your together messing around on a course! I absolutely love all your vids and I think you do a fantastic job! Thank you for all of the help. Really need to start focusing on each shot at hand. I get complacent throughout the round and take shots for granted. My most annoying moments are when I’ve hit a fantastic drive and left myself with just a short wedge shot on to the green and I totally “duff” as you would say. I feel I don’t just take a moment longer to focus on the little things and commit to a solid shot. Literally just happened this past weekend lol. For anyone reading I can attest to this...just take a moment and really focus on what your wanting to do with every shot and don’t take any of them for granted. It’s the easiest shots that I can really make a mess of when I’ve set myself up well for a great second shot and just totally blow it. This video is great and something I need to remember to think back on when I’m out. Thanks again for all the great vids!!!

    Is it odd that I have the ball a little back from center on those half swing pitches? I really come down on the ball and feel like it when i make contact, which gives me alot of spin. It's more aggressive, than a passive kinda scoop of the ball. Is that a typical technique? (58) 14 bounce

    Matt, best short game lesson EVER. Like most mid level 18-20 handicapers I struggle with this. Well no more. Today in Phoenix Az 112 degrees so I had the course to myself. Used your technique and WOW I got it 98 % of the time. Had the course to myself so I practiced several different lies. If I hit a bad one I quickly realized sternum forward to get weight forward.
    Shot 12 over today. No bump and runs!

    Pace control has helped my putting so much. I just try to have the mindset to 2 putt everything. If I get the ball within a couple feet of the hole, that's always a win for me. Every once in a while I get one in, but limiting 3 and 4 put holes has helped lower my score a ton.
