Jerome & Terry Lewis are real brothers. Terry brought him on as a roadie for The Time. During a rehearsal Morris says "somebody bring me a mirror" and Jerome rips a mirror off the wall and puts it in front of Morris and Jerome the sidekick was born 😂😂 and he was front and center
When 1990Tone said, "When she took the boots off, I was like "F*ck yeah!!" ", I think every straight dude that has watched this movie, felt that same sentiment.
Great movie! Great review! I’m a huge Prince fan! However, the performance of Clarence Williams III in this movie gets me every time! His acting was the pinnacle of drug addicted and abusive fathers… 🏆
I was 18 when this came out. Me and my friends stood in line for hours to watch this at the movie theater in Downtown Berkeley California. It was like attending a live concert. The audience was dancing in the aisles and everything. We didn’t care that the acting wasn’t the best. We had a great time🎉🎉💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
to hear yall talk about Prince we are blessed to experience some people in this life Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Elvis, Whitney Houston, Prince, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, Chadwick, HER, and so many more I hate to put people on pedestals but we have to recognize greatness when we experience it and not take it for granted
This movie & album was my introduction to Prince & the late Clarence Williams III. I also grew up in a household where everything was black. We had VHS movies such as Purple Rain, The Color Purple, The Last Dragon, Coming To America, Lean On Me, House Party, New Jack City, Boyz N The Hood, Juice Menace II Society, Strictly Business, The People Under The Stairs, Friday, Dead Presidents, A Thin Line Between Love & Hate & Set It Off. Here are some fun facts: John Travolta was considered for the role of The Kid. The reason why everyone used their real names was because Prince auditioned for a lot of movies & got turned down. You guys have to do Under The Cherry Moon.
When Prince was performing Computer Blue, he's singing about the turmoil in his relationship. While he's going crazy on stage, he lowers his mask and sees Appollonia walk in with Morris. That's when he screams. He's feeling so much hurt and rage. He expresses it in "Darling Nikki."
I’m gonna say this now BEFORE WATCHING this: Morris is my MVP. He carried the humor portion of the movie, he was cool as Hell, he had such good comebacks & quips that he made you root for The Kid, even when the The Kid was very unlikable. ❤️ “How’s the family?” AH-HAW😅 …. And absolutely 5 Black Fists ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 with the film + the amazing soundtrack: Prince was King for this year (1984) 🔥
Fun fact, the waitress was one of Prince's women, Jill Jones. He also dated Susan Moonsie who was the girl with the teddy bear in Apollonia 6. Great review of my favorite movie of all time, you all did it justice. #PrinceForever 💜
Prince did write the premise (he had been writing this movie for years in a "purple notebook") but of course he didn't know exactly how to put it in script form. And yes they recorded the songs live, but they were recorded at a previous show at First Avenue before the performance scenes were filmed.
You guys need to do "A Soldier's Story" Adolph Cesar, Denzel Washington, and Howard Rollins gave strong performances in that movie ..it put out there how blacks judge each other's blackness
Ya'll just blew my mind with the part where the father plays melodies Prince used in one of the songs!!!! I NEVER NOTICED THAT IN 30 YEARS!! WOW!! Ya'll doing an amazing job!!
I remember picking that up when Prince and the band did the breakdown at the end of Computer Blue and I was like that's the same melody his Pop was playing but like Ken said, I never understood the scream at the end.
It's crazy how alot of ppl never realized that lol. Kid plays the guitar version of "Father's Song" in "Computer Blue" 🔥🔥...Computer Blue is also my fav Prince song b/c of Father's Song
@@MissB2483 I honestly didn't, but should have realized that that part is "Father's Song". I knew the melody, not the name. Great point. I loved when they broke it down in the movie with Prince, Lisa and Brown Mark vibing in a circle, in front of that bright light.
WHAT A GREAT EPISODE THIS WAS!!! Y'all are the BEST! Loved all the insights y'all dropped on the film, Prince's career trajectory (at the time), character breakdowns from Appolonia to Francis El, musical insight into the rollout of the soundtrack at the time, and what all the songs meant to everybody! Three-headed monster with Jah, Tone, and Mr. Kenn Edwin schooling us on all things Prince!!
I think yall missed the mark on why he started screaming during computer Blue. He did that cause he saw morris and appolonia walk in the club. He wanted the keep the attention on hiself and break up what they had going on just like when he did the beautiful ones. But this time it was even more messy lol And if you listen to darling Nikki it really sounds like a perverted nursery rhyme lol
Minor correction - black folk able to pass wasn't a new thing, it was just new to white folk (not from the south there). Even we couldn't always tell. Look up Walter White and you'll see what I mean.
I need everyone to go and listen to “I would die 4 You” it might be the greatest song Prince ever wrote and it’s about God. Take time to really listen to the lyrics!!!
Purple Rain in by far my favorite movie because it hits so close to home for me but hearing you guys talk about it made it even that more special because I never thought about some of the things you guys said it was very beautiful to hear
It was always funny to me how they had to try to act like some of Prince's hot fire wasn't hot fire. To Jahhs point, Prince didnt have any wack songs to put in when he was supposed to be wack😂😂
The slap and his being sensitive clears up the song..WHEN DOVES CRY.. I remember the line MAYBE IM JUST LIKE MY MOTHER .. FATHER... WAS ALWAYS A MYSTERY CUS WE DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIS PARENTS.. THIS MOVIE JUST AS EASILY COULDA BEEN NAMED WHEN DOVES CRY
By the early 80's Prince was already a force in the industry. Early on one of the biggest points of contention was what genre to put him in. I remember arguments about who was the bettter dancer, prince or mj. I also remember a stupid argument that he wasn't a real rock and roller. Which i think his performance at the rock and roll hof proved prince was whoever he wanted to be. Lastly, to get a movie made, let alone to get push from a studio was no small task. That speaks to the fact the industry know who he was while fans were still getting on board. *Dirty Mind was one of the greatest albums of its time.
Really loved this one because my favorite movies and purple rain is one of my favorite songs I always cry wow watching the movie when he performed purple rain You can just feel the emotions coming through that song...
I myself only HOPE that these GUYS do a reviewng of BOTH Krush Groove & The Last Dragon NEXT or even in the NEAR FUTURE itself too as well okay @DaSpeakaBoxx.
As Always great show, the reason why everyone is jamming to lets go crazy is, thats his one hit. Everyone knows that but after that hes doing the prince(kid) weirdo shit. Thats why the tine know thd song, and jimmy isllike whats up with thisnone sing shit

Prior to Purple Rain Prince had released five albums: For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999.
Gotta remember Prince wrote, produced and played every instrument for the Time and Vanity 6. An amazing podcast🎉🎉

when Jahh tried to do the Prince look in the beginning i literally almost fell out of my chair at work hahahahahahhahahahaha
The social anxiety is true, I worked for Prince at Paisley Park until he passed.. He NEVER spoked to me or anyone but a few people
What did you do there? Were you able to go upstairs?

He had 5 albums out before Purple Rain
For You
Prince
Dirty Mind
Controversy
1999 and then Purple Rain
Purple Rain helped Prince crossed over to the mainstream status just like Thriller was MJ's mainstream album for him to cross over as well.
Resident expert There were 5 Albums that Led up to Purple Rain And you don't know this
Thank you for doing this movie! Prince is my favorite artist of all time, I wish I could be apart of this show with y'all. Great job fellas!
Yo...after Kid's dad shot himself and then Morris was like "How's the family?" That shit was cold and diabolical.
This movie & album was my introduction to Prince & the late Clarence Williams III. I also grew up in a household where everything was black. I was waiting for them to talk about that part. That whole song took me out! 😂❤
When Morris says how's the family is one of the coldest lines ever
I was pissed... in real life 😂😂😂😂
@@bennisford1712 I’m surprised they never addressed that part.

This is what we needed. I hope the show blows up. I will definitely be watching the episodes and hit a thumbs up.✊🏿✊🏿New York to Virginia Beach

Yes!!!
You guys are cooking today!!! I've seen this movie at least 50-60 times. But you guys have given a few new perspectives. Great work
All those bands are all carnations of prince, the girl band too.

I always thought Francis L. was on that horse. Like the fatjer on Sugar Hill. Woo!! Woo!!
The song Purple Rain is a natural cleansing of pain for me. You can cry your way through the most difficult time in your life. 1:05:41
Please do Under The Cherry Moon. Great show fellas!
YES!!
LIL KNOWN FACT: Jerome is actually the brother of TERRY LEWIS (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis)

Y’all did Morris dirty. Y’all gotta do a part 2. Every brother in the 80s bought a sport coat after this movie!
Facts, Morris was that guy for sure

Slap himself out of Anger. Lol LMAO!!!
This one youtuber said that Francis L looked like he spent his weekend slapping trees.
Oh this is gonna be a good one!!! Really looking forward to deep cover, cb4, and why do fools fall in love.
I think they already did Why Do Fools....
They need to do Fear Of A Black Hat.
Classic film with magnificent music by Prince! Great vulnerable acting by Clarence Williams III, Apollonia and Morris Day!
This is an amazing conversation. This is one of my favorite movies!!
Morris Day in this movie was like Prince opening up for Rick James. I JUST realized that
It was always funny to me how they had to try to act like some of Prince's hot fire wasn't hot fire. To Jahhs point, Prince didnt have any wack songs to put in when he was supposed to be wack😂😂

Morris is hating on the Kid cz it's based on Prince and he felt he was hated on by Rick James who he opened for
Rick is on record saying he hated Prince, lol
