- U.S. Marines with Light Armored Reconnaissance, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment (BLT 2/6), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), participate in a live-fire range with French partners in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations, April 3, 2018.
Whenever armies do joint training and the soldiers fire each others guns, is like seeing kids share their toys.
All I see is big kids.
In my experience, the military IS just a bunch of big kids figuring it out and making shit work as they go. Most of them joined at 18-20 before they got any sort of life experience outside of the military as young adults so the military is all they really know and it kinda frames the world in a very different way when you're traveling all over the planet doing a bunch of crazy crap under rather unique context.
It`s skill share that pretty useful if you are doing combined arms, the FAMAS is a different platform and squad leaders, as well as riflemen, need to know how it is different if they have to micromanage another nations squads platforms during combined operations.

@@onlyrushb6428 The A2 fixed the mechanical issues of the A1, and the A3 is set to fix the ergonomics. So it's actually a pretty damned good rifle now.
@@onlyrushb6428 once they gave the L85s to the Germans they fixed them up quite a bit so the updated models aren't the flimsy unreliable pieces of shit they used to be, still ugly rifles with the factory hand guards. The version seen in Battlefield 4 with the rail interface system replacing the ugly hand guard looked pretty cool tho.
It's wild when you go over there. In 2015 I flew into CDG Airport, and there are French guards patrolling all over the airport with these rifles, a stark contrast to the US.

France manufactures autonomously nuclear subs and nuclear carrier, fighter jets, satellites, heavy artillery, IFVs, cruise missiles....
Although France remains a large producer of weapons with a very complete catalog, it has almost stopped manufacturing small arms 20 years ago. This senseless decision was purely ideological, with several aspects.
The belief of politicians and senior officials was that it was not strategic (compared to a cruise missile or so), that the small caliber got dirty because it kills in an ugly way (compared to an observation satellite or an SSBN), not hi-tech (compared to night vision goggles) and finally that it did not make economic sense (when you can buy in low-wage countries)... Today everyone realizes that it is a strategic, industrial and economic disaster. The Army has to fight to find where to buy small caliber ammunition, the price is higher, the quality sometimes poor.
But the worst is the symbol!
So sad these are being replaced by the 416. Imagine telling a Frenchman in 1945 that France would be fielding a rifle made by the Germans...

Its unique, yes. But its nowhere near as good as the AUG. It uses proprietary magazines (the OG version at least) they are unreliable and have horrible ergonomics.
They should have come to us (Belgium) or to the Germans. Since we know a thing or two about making guns.

The FAMAS was a fine rifle though many folks don't like Bullpups and the G2's rate of fire was 1100 rpm which is pretty good. The HK416's rate of fire is in the neighborhood of 850-900 rpm, so it much less, but its effective range is longer depending on which barrel is employed. I happen to like Bullpups and the FAMAS despite its quirky appearance.

It"s not a FA-MAS's game, the range are pretty similar (depend on the barrel of course) and the rate of fire is not important for this kind of weapon ! Maybe it's too high like bodazephyr6629 say it. We can shoot at 300m with a FA-MAS with a "compact" gun.

Honestly, bullpups could be a good concept if they could get rid of some the more pressing design challenges.
This is really rare footage of seeing the Famas being fired in full auto and burst. Cant find it anywhere else.
Because the feedback after years of use was that firing the famas in full auto led to jamming/ wearing out the whole thing. Thats why we are taught only to fire 1 round semi.

In comparaison I had an easier time cleaning my M16 A4. But everyone has a different experience, mine wasn't that great on that part

Nah. More is not better when it comes to fire rate, it just makes the gun uncontrolable, wasting valuable ammo. Besides, 99% of the time rifles are fired in semi auto for practical purposes, so fire rate doesnt even matter at all

It’s the HK416 configured into an LMG variant. By that I mean a long barrel.
It's nothing more than a really shit (for it's intended purpose) rip-off off the RPK concept. It's astonishing the military didn't learn from both USSR and Britain, and still went through with this idea.. At least the RPK kinda did the job, this and L86 are garbage, nothing more than long assault rifles which are now heavier.

@@joshuakang4507 The M27 is replacing the M16, not the M4A1. The M4 will still be in service, but hardly anyone besides combat officers, corpsman, etc carry the M4. Even then, most of them still carry the M16/M27.

General Paul Tellie, the designer, did it for purpose. You see, internals of weapon get so much force from recoil that the bolt cathching device which would indicate to shooter that he is out of ammo would quickly wear out, so if you have 25 rounds, the last burst ends in fact as a single shot - and that indicates to you clearly that you need to change the magazine :)

I have heard the FAMAS is pretty good.
Used it for numerous years, and loved it... very efficient and precise (all in the target at 300 m, H+L average 50 to 100 mm for 3 cartridges), light and compact... very useful.

For the most part kneeling is less stable surprisingly and also it means its much harder to put your body weight into the rifle to help combat muzzle climb and recoil.

A lot of americans soldiers say they were astonished by the endurance and the strength of the French in Afghanistan, the French used to help the americans to carry their equipment in moutains because the americans were too slow for the French soldiers.

They told me in Afghanistan the americans soldiers used to exchange 2-3 of their rations against 1 french ration because the american ones are disgusting. I also saw an American soldier who said that on a website so it confirms what my friends said. But I guess the FFL is different, the French army put less ressources in the FFL.

when I was young; in the mid-1980s some Marines from the US Embassy went with us to shoot FAMAS at the range, I was in the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Republican Guard, the one who guards the French President, it was a nice after-noon with American friends, and the FAMAS was still quite new in the French army, a curiosity for the Marines.👍

The first time I got my hands on this one, my reaction was "wtf is this?" So small. Is this from a kinder egg? I got mine after arriving at Castel in .90 The F1. Man it sucked. Mind you, we got the worn out reject of the french army and, lol. Fun times. It jammed, it dropped mags, it had a stupid fire rate, but I loved it. I shot quite decent with it at 250 meters. I don't know what that is in American, random shoe size measurement 😀

I can see a few idiots in the comment section obviously don't know shit about firearms! The Famas F1 is a badass weapon. I believe there are only 200 or so in this country. Guess what? I was able to fire one on burst, and auto with 5.56 steel rounds. Back on centre is fucking awesome!
The number of politically and historically illiterate lack-wits holding forth here as if they actually have some idea what they are trying to talk about is genuinely depressing.
