Such a shame. Would have loved to see her running nowadays. By the I recommend you come visit Wonder Steam Trains Pty Ltd. They are the planning to do quite a number for different services.
It a magnificent locomotive - well done to all involved. Wayne - do you know what is currently happening with the locomotive? Is it in storage? Thanks Guy
Been sitting in the Unity yard (Cape Town Docks) with other locomotives and rolling stock used by Ceres Rail for a few years. The other locomotives and rolling stock are used on an almost weekly basis for leisure trips between Cape Town and Elgin / Cape Town and Ceres, but the Red Devil hasn’t (to the best of my knowledge) been used on any trips since before the pandemic. I’ve heard rumors that the Transnet Heritage Foundation wants to have it moved back to its storage depot in Bloemfontein, but those are of course just Facebook rumors. My main concern is that the Cape Town sea air will be harmful to the loco if it continues to just sit there out in the open, but the people at Ceres Rail are undoubtedly keeping an eye on it - as they would the rest of the units / stock in their current collection.
Tell me about it. Was only the beginning of lots of disappointment for me. I chased three other RD trips where the loco was a non starter. It's currently kept at Unity yard near the docks.
Thanks Wayne 👊 👍 for this incredible footage 👏 🚂
Pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Thats a beautiful
Is this a steam loco ??
Yes. It is.

I still have photos that I took of her standing in Cape Town station under dust...in the old red colour still. Was it platform 24?
Why was it a failed locomotive?

Is she awaiting funding still?
Currently planning on a video essay about Wardale. You seem pretty enthusiastic about him, any thoughts on what I should include in the video?
Hell, hard to say really. His book is fascinating though and should provide you with lots of information.
What a disappointment, I was hoping to hear that crisp bark of the double-Lempor working hard. What is the status of 3450 today?
