While it is good to have friends who are righteous and keep us on the right path, one should remember to not overdo it and actually practice what you preach. The Prophet PBUH himself used to be careful in what he said to the people and when so that they would not get bored (this is a Sahih Bukhari hadith). The second part is to ACTUALLY HELP instead of just telling someone to be grateful etc. If someone has a problem, telling them how you or someone else had it much worse and telling them to be grateful, not only belittles them and teaches them that their problems are unworthy, it also does absolutely nothing to actually help them and do something about the problem. A lot of extremely religious people fall into this category - just talking and mocking and belittling others, while not actually practising what they preach, and not trying to actually be empathetic and help people with their difficulties.

While it is good to have friends who are righteous and keep us on the right path, one should remember to not overdo it and actually practice what you preach.
The Prophet PBUH himself used to be careful in what he said to the people and when so that they would not get bored (this is a Sahih Bukhari hadith).
The second part is to ACTUALLY HELP instead of just telling someone to be grateful etc. If someone has a problem, telling them how you or someone else had it much worse and telling them to be grateful, not only belittles them and teaches them that their problems are unworthy, it also does absolutely nothing to actually help them and do something about the problem.
A lot of extremely religious people fall into this category - just talking and mocking and belittling others, while not actually practising what they preach, and not trying to actually be empathetic and help people with their difficulties.
