I mean using the sawed off itself will make you jump higher. The most effective way I found to go higher with the sawed off and the shotgun is to shoot the shotgun first and then used the sawed off to boost yourself up a wall.

You still should be able to. You may need to practice your shotgun movement if you aren't flying up into the air.
