Till Brönner kommt aus dem strahlen gar nicht mehr heraus, neben Conte Candoli zu sitzen. George Roberts mein Held ! Bud Shank, was eine Ehre für die Musiker neben diesen Größen zu sitzen. Hab das damals auf 3 Sat gesehen mit VHS aufgenommen und praktisch das ganze Konzert auswendig gelernt.
Leider hat das Deutsche Fernsehen es eingestellt Jazz Freunde und Musiker zu beglücken.
Und Legendär...Petra Schürmann küsst George Roberts zum Abschied auf den Mund 😍👄
Du hast völlig recht, Jazzsendungen sind im TV fast völlig verschwunden. Na ja, es gibt sie natürlich noch. Meist aber mitten in der Nacht werden sie "versendet". Wir Jazzfans finden natürlich solche Perlen, aber Menschen, die darauf vertrauen, dass die Programmverantwortlichen einen guten Mix an Kultursendungen zusammenstellen, die auch zu "normalen" Zeiten gesendet werden, gehen leer aus. TH-cam ist da aber eine gute Ergänzung. Vor allem die WDR-Big Band und die HR-Big Band haben richtig gute Kanäle. Konzerte werden dort live übertragen, einzelne Studioproduktionen werden dort vorgestellt... eine schöne Sache. Bei dem "Kenton"-Konzert mit der RIAS-Big Band saß ich im Publikum und ich habe es heute noch so gut in Erinnerung, dass es doch ein ganz besonderes Konzert gewesen sein muss. Vor allem die Auswahl der Gastsolisten war großartig. Allen haben sie noch bei Stan Kenton gespielt. Bud Shank, Conte Candoli, George Roberts, John van Ohlen und Jiggs Whigham, der Leiter der RIAS-Big Band ja auch. Übrigens saß Heinz Niemeyer, der "Stammdrummer" der RIAS-Big Band (bis 1994 RIAS-Tanzorchester) auch im Publikum und war genauso begeistert. Ein ganz besonderer magischer Abend war das. Und als dann einige Monate das komplette (!!!) Konzert bei 3sat gesendet wurde, habe ich natürlich, wie Du, auf VHS mitgeschnitten. Nichtsahnend, dass ich das Konzert wiederum einige später auf TH-cam hochladen kann.
There have been many ghost bands doing Kenton over the years with some success. The RIAS Band with Jiggs Whigham is by far the finest so far. Close your eyes and it's the true artistry of Stan's band. I'm writing this nearly 25 years after this video was made. Perfection.
Thanks for that great comment. I was happy to tape this full concert on german TV a few days after it was recorded in the studio. Since then it was never repeated. I was also in the audience and until today I remember that concert very clearly.
The legendary Bud Shank has an extended solo about 17 minutes in. Rare.

The only complaint I have about this video is that the sound levels were so low I had to CRANK the volume to around 80% to get the KENTON sound that used to blow me away back in the day. There was no other band for me or a vocal group to match the Four Frosh!
