I'm 70 years old and started colts for nearly 50 of those years.
I'm from middle Tennessee and raised on a Horned Herford Cattle ranch.
My Granddad was an amazing horseman but rough.
He started my older brother and me starting ponies before either of us can remember. He would put a rank pony in the lot and tell us to keave this pony alone. Of course he knew we wouldn't. In six months that pony could okay the piano !
We rode them to death. No yelling or beating just rode the hell out of them. They loved to be involved. Our ponies thought they were little humans just like us and it was fun for them. Even though there wasn't yelling or beating you still have to let them know that they are not the alpha and that we were.
We grew into starting horses. Our foals were easy because we rode their Momas and they came along with no halter or lead at first. Then later being led beside their Moma. The colt or filly witnessing their Mom being saddled and riden they knew it would be ok for them. And it was. They really never knew that they had been started.
For a few decades we started, trained and the old term broke a whole bunch of horses for other people.
Horses that we didn't raise did not have the advantage of witnessing their Mom as a trained horse.
We did it a lot of different ways but found out the best way was to do the same thing this cowboy did.. i probably would not put a green horse in a rock pile because i dont want them hurt.
    But !
The way he got them saddled and led them putting some burn in their leg and hip muscles really works. They have the example of the lead horse , the fatigue of the trail and learn to have confidence in the cowboy.
I have no criticism of this cowboy.
Working cowboys and working horse just do not have a lit if tme to get dtarted.
You niticed he was not yelling or whipping these colts.
    He's a hell of a tough ole Cowboy !

Not my way of training horses, but it is the old school way. I'm not brave enough to do the old school way. LOLI fell in love and broke in too many bones. But nothing feels any better when you have that partnership with a horse , I mean like Heartland parap.❤

I have respect for ur knowledge sir about the Arabian horses
And I agree they are high tempered and flighty to show some kind of dominance it is in the dna of the breed
And if I was you I would not disrespect Arabian horses like that
They are not broncos or donkeys they have the best pedigree of horses on earth and they understand everything that goes around them
U almost hurt that horse breaking his leg

Exactly. He's all ego. His horse was totally worn out and he was too big for his own horse. He kept pushing it. The horses were way underweight but big Ole sure had an excess of weight on.

Your horses are not broke. They are broken. You run them till they are exhausted and they are probably going to be lame in some way. There are so many holes in your training if you don't sell to an experienced person you a will get someone hurt. I've watched alot of your videos and disagree with pretty much all of them. But that's just me a side line soccer mom. NOT. Let rope your ass and pull you over 10 miles of terrain then ask you to do an obstacle course.

Why do you have horses you don’t know how to treat them the reason he is disrespectful is because you have to build a bond with you can just try to break them like that

This is foolish IMHO. There are much better ways that make a much better horse in the end. This is the difference between training and breaking. Training gives you a great horse and partner. Breaking leaves you with a horse that is just nearly tolerating you. Most of what you see in this video is for show. They are acting foolish for clicks and likes. Again there is a reason why old-school breaking is not the norm any longer. And it is not because of activists. It is because proper horse training creates a much better horse. These horses would leave your a$$ if they got you off. They want nothing to do with you and only tolerate you to not get hit. Yes, they are hit for sure you just don't see it. I know a horse beater when I see one. This guy has a lot of subs for a foolish horseman. I would not buy from this guy nor would I let him work with my horses. People liked this in the comments and just don't know any better ignorant is bliss. If you want to learn about real horsemen and training check out, Ryan Rose he is really good, or a guy named Steve or something on youtube. Now "I"m judging this man off of this one video. he could be difference but my gut is normally right, not always just normally. LOL. Just because you can does not mean you should. You can spot a good horseman by one thing alone. if they are working with the horse at the horse level that day. That will tell you all you need to know. And no I"m not talking about babying the animal, there is a time to push back on your horse. What I'm talking about is good training that gives you a very good horse that you can trust to be there for you even when shit hits the fan.

I am on your side when it comes to what I just witnessed on this video ! This guy is basically saying that they have sh*t to do an they wont take time to break a horse because their time is more precious then the horse ... and if the horse breaks its legs while we are dragging and whipping it up a treacherous mountain with sliding boulders and very dangerous loose rocks and barely any room for a horse to get up a dangerous steep ass incline or down one then screw the horse ! It is actually a terrifying thing to watch so imagine a horse that hasn't done crap but stay in a holding stall and never had humans mess with it so they are already scared out of their poor minds ,it's so disturbing to watch! It seems to me by this video that he wouldn't give a flying f... if the horse he is "breaking' make's it through or not , at least that's what I seem to have saw and heard ! The Steve I think you are talking about is { Steve Young Horsemanship } that is his channel and he is amazing just awesome and he loves and actually cares how he treats the beautiful creatures! Ryan Rose is great also ,I just watched one of his yesterday where he broke a horse that for over a year's worth of other trainers this owner tried she could not get this horse to even take a saddle let alone be ridden and Ryan managed to get it done pretty damn quick and respectful to the horse! Amazing Horsemanship and Steve he is one of my fav's... 💯✌

This is ignorant and abuse. This is old school “breaking a horse” . What’s so sad is that he’s teaching how to “break “horses. These poor animals have no experience being properly trained. I’d like to see his ass run a marathon with no training. Shameful. I won’t be watching any more of his abusive videos.

Interesting comment, as he was kind but firm on the hoses. Also he did not ask the horse to do what a horse can not do. A wild horse would lead its foal through that country. If it where a life or death situation for both horse and rider, would you not want your horse to follow your lead. He chose his route carefully. This man knows more about horses in this environment than you give him credit for.
