❤ Quite envious that there are still so many used bookshops in the USA, with such large SF collections. Over the years, I have always picked up nice copies of John Christopher books when I have seen them. I have just put up a video displaying several of his books, if any wants to see more editions.
I found thirteen signed hard covers at a thrift store here in Aurora, CO, once. They included a Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment book and Joe Hill's Horns (with a hand-drawn devil picture with the autograph). All thirteen books cost me $27. Might be the best find yet.
Really enjoyed your cross-country U.S. bookstore odyssey, Richard! A fun and engaging series of videos. It's nice to get a peek at several cool bookstores in other states.
It was so much fun documenting the trip by cataloguing used bookstores by state. I hope to do more of this in the future. Perhaps I'll build a database of used bookstores for fellow travellers. Thanks for watching!

About a month ago I visited Huntington Books in Bismarck. Any other recommendations for ND? I think there are a few more bookstores to try in Fargo. If you come to Winnipeg we have four used bookstores which I frequent. I’m also a volunteer for the Children’s Hospital Book Market held twice a year in the St. Vital Shopping Mall.
Winston Publishers. Back in the 80s I attempted to put together a complete set. Unfortunately, at the time it was nearly and impossible task because of price and rarity. One thing I loved about these books was the artwork. They published some wonderful Juvenile SF. There was a total of 37 books in that series and I believe I managed to find about 20 of them. I still have them hidden somewhere in the house, probably packed away in a box somewhere. 😊
Hot Trip! A cool return home, I imagine? Supposed to get down to 5 degrees in my neck of the woods. I have a few New England Hardbounds. The Boucher was in in my local Bookstore a few weeks ago. The EHDiS Scraper has worked very well, and I will finally make it to my Post Office, today!

I've got a copy of "The 22nd Century". A 1960 Panther edition. On the back cover there is a promotion for the Howard Fast novel "Spartacus" - which is "Now A Mighty Motion Picture". I also have "The Year of the Comet". (Variant title "Planet In Peril".) Think I'll give it another read. 😁
Great to know that 'Planet in Peril' is a variant title. Just looked at it again and nowhere does it credit the original title. I probably would have picked up 'The Year of the Comet' without knowing.
Those NESFA editions are very handsome Richard, a couple of great bookshops there. I found a copy of the Tripods books for £3.99, altho not in a slipcase. 30 bucks is a little steep I think. I'll keep an eye out for another set for you.
I kind of like the lens flare, but I'm glad you didn't let it run for the entire rest of the video. 😄 Both bookstores sound lovely. I'm sure you can find the tripods for less; I don't think you were actually looking for a box set, and a box set of a British book that wasn't that big in the US does seem like something a bookstore would ask a little more for. But who knew? I saw the tripods books in the bargain bin in front of Green Apple Books here in SF a few months ago. . . I got some of the more unusual JC that was with them. I love that you are still holding books and contents pages up, and showing us covers: I do wish with all these hauls from different locales you could reflect a little more on prices, it's nice to know what *real* shops are asking - algorithmic pricing has really started to become a problem on the internet. Lens flare! I was struggling for the terminology. I think I made the right call in leaving the box set. I really want to read the books more so than collecting the box set or certain livery. That said, if it had been $20 US I would have probably picked it up. Prices. Bookstores that take donations and sell for libraries or other charities always seemed to have the lowest prices. Friends of Pima Libraries and FriendShop were two that had $3 hardcovers and $1 - $2 paperbacks. Aunt Bonnie's in Helena also had $2 paperbacks. COAS Books had 1/2 price paperback cover prices. The chain stores Bookmans and Half Price Books had middle of the road prices, ones which might be equivalent of reasonable Ebay prices. A good quality hardcover was in the $10 range and paperbacks $3 - $7. The advantage for me is the elimination of high shipping costs.
Funnily enough, I have two old friends (one a schoolmate, the other a workmate, they don't know each other) who live in Colorado- so when I do my US trip, I'll be in that State and New Mexico. Those PKD hardcovers- have all of them in those jackets, most bought new, except 'Now Wait For Last Year' which is rare- but one of his worst novels. On the previous video, Michael Bishop's 'Ancient of Days' is in my book and I've reviewed it on the channel- I also have that arbor edition and the UK first, good novel.
I think you would really enjoy CO and NM. They are beautiful states. Some great walks and hikes. Slowly picking up some Bishop. Look forward to trying his work.
I have a lot of crossover with this video and the one before. I was in Santa fe spending Thanksgiving with friends and then spent a week with friends who included the editors of the NESFA press books you bought.

That copy of Shadow of the Torturer on the bottom shelf in the Printed Page bookshop looks like a first edition. I would have gotten that one, probably (pretty sure it was expensive, but I wouldn't have minded). But the whole store looks excellent!

Oy. I was going to tell you that I, Nerdius has a video about the tripods trilogy, play spends most of it talking about everything other than the damn books themselves. He does have a cool box edition, which is a different box edition than the one you saw on your trip (based upon the pic you put up.) so there's that.
Richard, Alan E. Nourse is perhaps that rarest type of science fiction author...a practicing physician. I'm going to recommend "the Coffin Cure" and the YA "Star Surgeon". I'm also going to take the opportunity to recommend the Sector General Series by James White, which collectively may be my most favorite science fiction series EVER. Wonderful, pacifist, genteel prose with wit, and charm, they're all, each and every one, mysteries as well. You'll see what I mean...😂🤣. Do a bit of research, on Wikipedia, for a completely unique author and series. My most treasured NESFA books are the complete short stories of Roger Zelazny. This mammoth 9 volume set is absolutely wonderful. You may have to go for the Kindle edition however, as getting all nine hardcovers might be difficult. 😮😳🥺
That Zelazny set is beautiful! They did such a good job with the graphics using Michael Whelan's painting. Love that the spines form one large picture. And obviously Zelazny's work is worthy of such a collection. Might piece it together over the years, many years. I do have a number of James White books. I reviewed one collection of Sector General stories early in the channel's history. If I remember correctly it was titled 'Future's Past'.
Boy, you and I do seem to have overlapping tastes. First H. Warner Munn and now, 'Star Surgeon' by Alan E. Nourse. I bought the Scholastic Book Club edition in the high school library when I was a sophomore. Loved that book. Just found out that it's available, now, on Project Gutenberg.

The dedicated doctors and nurses of Sector General, only a few of whom are human, 😳 are dedicated to saving the lives and succoring the sick aliens that are brought to this immense space hospital. Each story is also a mystery, as often the sick alien can't tell its doctors what's wrong. Fortunately, the mighty Diagnosticians, each of whom have at least or over five recorded alien minds sharing its brain, each mind a species recognized physician of immense skill, and fame, can bring immense medical knowledge to bear on treating these unknown sapient individuals. Awesome! 🤩🤩🤩

Both bookstores sound lovely.
