How did people thousands of years before us have so much abilities. I like to think we have improved and still have that awe factor but I'm not sure. Yea lifes a whole lot better but there's a huge gap in between then and now where it seems we lost what we knew and regressed and had to start over
Romans would have been as awed by their bathhouses and aqueducts as we are by nuclear reactors and the internet. We look back and find what they achieved to be amazing for what they had, but what we have today would have been inconceivable and magic to them. Just because the time we live in seems mundane, doesn’t mean we haven’t and aren’t currently doing amazing things.
These sorts of logistics were less of a problem for medieval and Renaissance builders. All they had to do is roam around town and plunder what ever ancient structure tickled their fancy. Trying to erase the pagan past was wholeheartedly encouraged by some who held power and were eager to purge any vestige of the imperial cult.
Two of the Roman emperors Caligula and Caracalla known only by their nicknames based on the clothes they wore as children -just imagine if Prince Charles in the future will be only known by a nickname based on the clothes he wore as a child!Would be hilarious!
This performance proves the adage “a photograph is worth a million words” The worst ‘ description’ of the Baths ever!!! And I have spent much time studying and visiting them!

BrownBubbles. Barbarians, i. e Germanic tribes and Huns destroyed the western part of the Roman Empire.
There’s a reason it’s called the Middle Ages

He was a shit emperor ,sly and liars and dishonest!
Caracalla murdered his brother Geta in his mother arms. And it was only the beginning...

Two of my favourites would have been Marcus Aurelius and Julian the Apostate.
What? Caracalla?? Try Antonius Pius or Marcus Aurelius or Trajan. Caracalla was a madman
Within 3 minutes I see a flaw. The father of emperor Commudus was Marcus Aurelius. I thought we all knew this.
