Davit launch is slower but is designed for a safer way down if you have time. They can also be used as throw overboard as the video says, which is a much faster way if you have no time, but comes with more risk. Just saying.
"Cut the painter line" If possible- do not cut painter line. It should be taken inside life raft as it can be used for towing, attaching to another life raft etc
Thank you for posting, but honestly why would someone design such a complicated mechanism for launching a life raft. Manual throwing is so much easier. Why would the company which made this life raft launching mechanism, want to make something like this ? I am very curious to know ?
It offers the possibility of not getting soaked wet when boarding it which can be very important for survival in cold weather conditions. But I agree this is not ideal... A MES would be much better.
Vessel is on fire and taking on water. Guy who paid the most attention to this video is incapacitated. Crew hoists life boats, deploys them, immediately drops them and jumps in after. Many strike boats on the way down, puncturing them. How about this? Boat hooks face outwards and shells are stationary. When clamps are engaged and davit is rotated 90°, the boat is pulled from the shell and inflated automatically. Inflation is safely executed away from the deck. Bruh. Someone's "emergency preparedness" masters degree holding daughter got a free job and designed this deathtrap.
The only reasons I can think of why they would use a davit is because those 25 person life rafts weigh 200-400 pounds or so,and it keeps people from having to jump down a long distance to the raft or water. I'd still rather have that life raft storage stand allow one raft to be dispensed at a time into the ocean, and have people climb down. One thought I had is.. what if the hand crank got lost or fell into the water.
This won't do any good in a emergency situation, just check out some documentaries of ferry disasters. No untrained passenger can do this, way too complicated.
+Mr. Vader Its why I never go on a vessel without seeing its safety equip. Doesn't matter how short the voyage. I took a 45 minute ferry ride one time and the first thing I did was head onto main deck and familiarize myself with the safety systems and how to launch the boats and rafts, even talking with the crewmen about the procedures. My mom and him asked me why I simply said "What am I supposed to do if the crew becomes incapacitated and were still on board? At least I got a fighting chance now of getting off and helping others get off." They were more then happy. Thankfully never needed to use it but always good to know incase the rare occasion arises.

men onboard ship: ALRIGHT alright step 10 I thought we were on step 8! (ship sinks)
thank you viking, great help!
Thank you for showup
Too complicated procedure. Imagine having to do this in the night and with the emergency situation worsening every minute that goes by.
The ship sank at 3:44
by the time it opens up the life raft the survivor already dead
Awesome..missing subtitles ..but .!! Really helpful for cl 4
Thanks for your explain

Ludicrous procedure. Back to the drawing board!!
Its computer synthesized voice not an actual person.
Douglas Mecca please i need the skrip of the video please
Everyone boarding liferaft without life jacket.
I also make this kind of video, thanks

too long, in emergency do you get this much time for launching one life raft?!?!?
Farideddin Dorri probably not 😂

Wanted to use this video for my lessons. Changed my mind after viewing this runover stupidity

+Alexis Hood me too! i look at a possible/fastest way to the liferafts and life vests
Should be crew operated in theory (but it's still slow)
Possible to use video in offshore training program?
it would take too long to do this!
i would prefer a throw over type compared to davit launched.
You can throw them over just as well, this is just an option.
