Hi matti, just wanna say thank you... I ended your wedding course.. and I already have my second job based on the first one!!! I try to make all your advice :=) so happy!!!
Will you only be streaming to Twitch or will you be doing dual streaming to twitch and youtube? I only ask because I typically have better access to youtube depending on what time you stream, and I'd hate to miss a live stream because I'm at work. :(
Great video as always Matti, I love your teaching style and how well you explain things. I’ve been following you from the beginning and it’s been a pleasure watching you grow, a true inspiration.
Hey thanks so much for those kind words! It really does feel good when people recognize and are thankful for the work you put in. So I appreciate it a ton 🙌🏻 thanks for being here 😊
Great note about the ground or level looking cluttered. Especially if you can't control the who area you're filming in, you're always more likely to have a clean, not filled shot if you point slightly upwards...that is...until everyone has jet packs and then no angle is safe!
Completely agree, Matti! I shoot a lot at my 5 year old's soccer games and part of the reason that I feel my images and videos come out much better than the typical sideline shots, is because I shoot from down at their level. Angle is everything!
Hey Matti, I have been following your video from long time you are making gud videos and improved a lot. Your inspiring people about photography and videography and I’m loving it, cheers.
Great video Matti, I always default to zero tilt to start off with, then play around until I'm satisfied. a little angle variation can make a huge difference, especially when shooting fashion or beauty, as The ladies will always let you know when you nailed the correct angle for portraits.
this is very interesting for me to watch … I am a photographer BUT... I see lots of similarities when it comes to camera positions like that... I like to tell story though my photos as well especially when it comes to candid photos and those things apply in photography as well... great video.. as always... cheers
Such phenomenal information as always Matti, thank you!! That's what I love so much about this craft, there's sooo much more too it than just pointing-and-shooting. The opportunities are literally endless of how you can convey a story. 🙏🍻
Such a good point about subtle height changes - that shot of you talking was veeeery subtly looking up - but it definitely impacts the feeling. Great tip, thanks! realizing i just point my camera too straight and boring! :)
I recently had an issue with an interview/FAQ I did with a real estate guy. Lifting the camera just a few inches up made a huge huge difference. I was shooting every so slightly up but he was always looking over the top of the camera and not connecting to the viewers. I'll have to put an action figure on the top of the lens that he can talk to next week.
Hey, Matti. That’s one of my downfalls. I’m always in such a rush to record that I forget to look for the best angles. If you’re ever in Puerto Rico to make a video let me know.
Great video, Matti! The angle makes all the difference. My favorite way to use camera tilt angle is shifting the angle with a camera move to give a strong sense of power shift in a scene.
I worked for this one Director on a project - every shot was from below up the actors nose. Couldn't get the D to see that maybe there was another way... that maybe...
You're right it doesn't have to be unflattering, but sometimes that's the on set struggle between DoP and D. That struggle can foster amazing results because it forces you to think and see differently; or it can be a disaster.
@Matti *9* years ago on an HVX200... One of 8 videos we shot outside in the winter in Sask, all up the nose: th-cam.com/video/Nx4Z7j_aXAQ/w-d-xo.html I shot alternates, but the guy who edited these was told to throw then out. Still stings.
very hyped about your upcoming review! were the shots of Matt from the fuji with the 16-55 2.8? Maybe you can include in your review, if you would recommend the xt-3 for wedding-videography? cheers
As a stage speaker, what your saying is something we have often seen, and it’s a bit of a ninja trick to create more sales. (Never be below your audience.). Never thought a about it regarding video though. Thanks for the all the Tips!
Can’t wait for X-T3 review!! Would love to see autofocus tests to see how smooth it is, and also, auto iso. Apparently Fuji said they fixed an issue where auto exposure would be “steppy” and not smooth, would love clarification as I have X-T2 and looking to upgrade :)
Matti your twitch comment made me think about this, would totally watch a live video editing session, start to finish, very interested in how you think through it.
Great tip Mattie, but would focal length affect how much of an angle to use? What if you want to look a little thinner? Would not a shot from a a little below be unflattering for a chubby person? And yet you want to look authoritative...any ideas?
Love your videos Matti. Could you do one about the HSL secondary colours if you have time one day? :) I feel like that has the potential to take my colour grading up a notch and put me at notch 1 :P Cheers. Sam
Definitely is great to think about this. I hadn't really been doing this.. or at least thought about.. Do you have a video on your lighting for these videos? Like how you light up your face and the entire process start to finish? Or could you do it for us?
Angles are important. In his early movies Spielberg tried so show most of his scenes from the perspective of kids that were basically his main actors. That gave the movies something really special. And non-standard perspectives are often very interesting when they show things from a different angle.
The straight on angle is, mostly, used to achieve the kuleshov effect during the editing stage of a production. The kuleshov effect describes the psychological background of cutting away from an expressionless face to something else, than cutting back again to the expressionless face. The viewer will then project an emotion onto the actor based on the image shown in-between. And before I'll press send, I looked up online to verify my theoretical knowledge, and I discovered a fantastic video from folding ideas. It's worth a look. Cheers ☕👌
Great vid! However I would like to add, downward angle is a much more flattering angle as it slims the subject down while shooting up makes the person look bigger which is not always a good thing. This is especially true when working in the beauty and fashion world. As well as shooting at an upwards angle you see right up their noses not a great look for everyone.
In regards to "peoples image rights" ... I see some popular vloggers entering public places were faces are clearly visible. When you want people in the background to be blur and when you want people in the backgroung to be in focus. People in the news business have everybody in focus but is that wise for a vlogger?
Thanks a lot for all the tips you give us in your videos, it help me to produce better content on my TH-cam channel 😉 And congratulation for your almost 500K sub ! That's huge ! 🖖
Matti I like shooting at a more upward angle I agree with you, but I've also been told to always shoot downward because shooting upward is not always the most appealing angle of the subject.. So whats more important in this situation maybe.. shooting up to tell a better story or sacrifice and shoot down do find the best appealing angle of the subject?
I noticed that tiny bit of up-tilt right away ;) LOVE your videos man, feels like I'm at a class learning while I sit in my office sipping a cappuccino instead.
hey.. i m looking for answer.. sorry my english is little bad but hope you can understand. so here is my question "suppose that , i m using signle point focus on my camera. then i m press sutter button half way and lock my focus, then i m going to 2 step forward, so what happen woth now with my focus? is my focus will go 2 step backward ? or it will remain same place ? " ans me please
Matti, you should have a more distinct thumbnail style or intro or smth to highlight that this is a series. I really like these videos and I think someone seeing it for the first time would get enticed by realizing that it is a series! Retention for you, more videos for us :)
Hey Matti, what if you want the up-angle look but you or your subject are worried about it looking unflattering (i.e. double-chin)? If they’re not speaking into the camera then you can have them look up as well-maybe off to the side-but what if they’re supposed to be speaking directly into the camera? Stick with straight-on for those shots?
What's the difference between Super35mm and Full Frame 35mm while recording video, 1DX M2 Shots 4K at Super35 whereas Sony A7III at Full Frame 4K, Why is it so?
Hey Matti I love the info you give on your channel and just watching this video alone, I have learnt a lot. I would love to see you guys (you and Petter) in Dubai or out in Ras Al Khaimah Keep up to good work.
Question do you change camera angles over multiple takes Or do you change per scene. Trying to imagine a wedding. How one will be able to get all these angles.
Hey Matti, you keep putting out this great content and I'm learning so much, thank you!! Speaking of angles, would you consider making a video teaching us how to use/apply tilt-shift?
Go follow on Twitch if you guys want more Livestreams! I miss doing more of them :(
Hi matti, just wanna say thank you... I ended your wedding course.. and I already have my second job based on the first one!!! I try to make all your advice :=) so happy!!!
Done... Never done twitch... Hmm 🤔
Will you only be streaming to Twitch or will you be doing dual streaming to twitch and youtube? I only ask because I typically have better access to youtube depending on what time you stream, and I'd hate to miss a live stream because I'm at work. :(
Hi Matti
How would you film magic? Have you ever filmed Peter doing magic? What is your view on that?
Will do. Thanks for the tips in this video.
Great video as always Matti, I love your teaching style and how well you explain things. I’ve been following you from the beginning and it’s been a pleasure watching you grow, a true inspiration.

Damn the jet packs and the future! Haha
Completely agree, Matti! I shoot a lot at my 5 year old's soccer games and part of the reason that I feel my images and videos come out much better than the typical sideline shots, is because I shoot from down at their level. Angle is everything!

Yea literally learning more every single day I make videos
Thanks for all your videos! I’ve started my own business because of yours and peters tips. Big love from England.
That’s amazing man congrats
Such a good point about subtle height changes - that shot of you talking was veeeery subtly looking up - but it definitely impacts the feeling. Great tip, thanks!

Yea man aren’t we all! But with time it becomes more natural and don’t even have to think about it
Great video, Matti! The angle makes all the difference. My favorite way to use camera tilt angle is shifting the angle with a camera move to give a strong sense of power shift in a scene.
Awesome!
You always have great tips and helpful information. Thank you so much again. Great video.
Hi..Thanks a lot.The way you narrate the Content is really inspiriring.God bless you.
I worked for this one Director on a project - every shot was from below up the actors nose. Couldn't get the D to see that maybe there was another way... that maybe...
Haha well shooting up doesn’t have to be unflattering. Just bad direction at that point
You're right it doesn't have to be unflattering, but sometimes that's the on set struggle between DoP and D. That struggle can foster amazing results because it forces you to think and see differently; or it can be a disaster.

Wow, I remember when you were at 480k. Now you are so close to 1 million!!! I love all of your videos, keep it up!
very hyped about your upcoming review! were the shots of Matt from the fuji with the 16-55 2.8? Maybe you can include in your review, if you would recommend the xt-3 for wedding-videography? cheers
Great tips matti! Never thought about these angles like that.
Glad you learned man!
As a stage speaker, what your saying is something we have often seen, and it’s a bit of a ninja trick to create more sales. (Never be below your audience.). Never thought a about it regarding video though. Thanks for the all the Tips!
I can smell the tutorial is coming! Like the old one you made 1 year ago! Like it!
Good tips man. Thanks, this comes very handy mostly for small channels like mine. 🙏

Coming soon!
Thankyou so much, got a brief idea how to put all together 🤗😇
Can’t wait for X-T3 review!! Would love to see autofocus tests to see how smooth it is, and also, auto iso. Apparently Fuji said they fixed an issue where auto exposure would be “steppy” and not smooth, would love clarification as I have X-T2 and looking to upgrade :)
Great explanation. Clear and simple.
Phenomenal video! Will be implementing these tips today!! Thanks man. Keep up the awesome videos! Looking forward to the next video!
Awesome man 🙌🏻

hahaha watching this at 1 am at night xD
What if your shooting something small and want to shoot it from underneath but there is ground right under your subject?
Definitely is great to think about this. I hadn't really been doing this.. or at least thought about..
Do you have a video on your lighting for these videos? Like how you light up your face and the entire process start to finish? Or could you do it for us?
Yep! It’s called how to light your videos
Angles are important. In his early movies Spielberg tried so show most of his scenes from the perspective of kids that were basically his main actors. That gave the movies something really special. And non-standard perspectives are often very interesting when they show things from a different angle.
Never even thought about this. Thank you! Will experiment on different angles now

A great American movie that really takes advantage of angles (and framing) is Citizen Kane. Classic movie.

hey Matti, great video. I totally agree with you.
I would love to see your opinion about the lens angles and how can it change the story. Also then its better to use static and moving angles
Matti always got a fresh cut looking sharp bro
I need to understand polorizers and ND filters. Some proper indept usage and the way they are used.
