A couple of weeks ago Priscilla Pfalz and I did a live stream on the app Periscope. We were looking for duets to sing. I suggested to do the classic EPCOT Center song ‘New Horizons’, the theme song from the ride ‘Horizons’ (1983) at Walt Disney World.
After Priscilla and I did our live stream we decided to record the song. It started as a small idea, but I’m quite a perfectionist so I thought we needed a children’s choir as well. I asked my niece Loes and nephews Bram and Tijn to record it, and they did an amazing job! I thought me playing the piano wasn’t enough to give this song the right feel, so I made an orchestral arrangement. I used 40 different instruments for the recording.
’New Horizons’ is a beautiful song that should be just as well known as other Disney songs. Sadly the Walt Disney World ride ‘Horizons’ closed in 1999. We are very excited to share our new version of this song about hope and optimism and we hope you will enjoy it!

Horizons really was the soul of EPCOT Center, where everything came together and synthesized into the future of mankind. It's an irreplaceable loss in Disney history, but any fan will always tell you this attraction defined EPCOT Center and lives on through all of us who know what it means. Thanks for doing this. Great orchestration too.

@@gijspiano I haven't rode it since 1996 and still remember it. I remember riding it for the first time ever exact moment and everything all the way back in 1994 and I was 3. It was that great, even if you didn't understand the story or the scenery just the effects, music, sounds, scenery and all out interior was something you could never forget. On top of that Epcot as it was in general was something you will never forget. Still look at that day at Epcot in 1994 where my entire family was there was the greatest day of my 29 years and remember more of that day than any other not to mention iv'e been to Epcot 20+ times maybe even 30+ since then and with my whole family many of those times. That's how great Epcot was back then and no matter how many times iv'e been there since then it could never be relived.

Love this rendition of the Horizons song. Its right up there with Great big Beautiful Tomorrow considering Horizons was the sequel to cop. Brings tears to my eyes.
If they remade Horizons, I definitely think they should keep this exact theme song- and this is how I imagine it would sound updated!
Thank you all so much for watching our video! Someone just asked me: “Where did you download the New Horizons instrumental??” 😆 I arranged and produced the music myself using 40 instruments.

I'm crying. Why am I crying? Because I bought a cassett tape that had this ride's soundtrack when I was a child and I sang this song a lot, despite the fact that my friends and family thought I was crazy. I was EPCOT boy.

When I heard this during the Epcot forever firework show I bawled out crying and it gave me goosebumps. Oh how I miss the original epcot days when they had this ride 😢 r.i.p Horizons. What was even sadder was seeing the demolition pics of this ride.

It's Mission Space now, I rather have Horizon where the ride was wheelchair friendly and I didn't have to get out of my chair.
This should be the finale to harmonious with these visuals projected onto the barges.
I rode this one last time about a year before it closed for good in 1999. I also rode it many times when I was a very young child on my first visit to Disney World back in the mid 80's. This is an amazing tribute to this wonderful ride and actually brought tears to my eyes. Thank you!!
chips99 Thank you very much for your comment! I grew up at Disneyland Paris. When I went to Epcot for the first time the ride was already closed.

I have tears in my eyes from how beautiful this is! All of the singers did an amazing job and the arrangement is sweeping and epic! I never rode Horizons, but it's my favorite "If Only I Could Have..." ride, and I feel the optimism of Walt's dream for the future when I listen to your version.

A friend saw a print of vintage Horizons concept art on my wall. He asked about it and I described the attraction experience, that it was unique in the Disney pantheon and one of the best things they'd ever done. I told him they replaced it with a 4 minute thrill ride - the first Disney attraction ever with barf bags. "Why did they get rid of it?" he asked. Such a good question.

It was removed because the 21st century became present therefore the ride was inaccurate and irrelevant. Believe me, I loved it, but let’s face the facts.
With all respect, I get the perceptions that the attraction was permitted to decline in presentation and never enjoyed an appropriate freshening. But as to its relevancy and accuracy... We're just now building habitats on the ocean floor and the first hotel in space (in orbit) was recently announced. Bold farming techniques are being employed that will feed tens of millions in places where food crops were considered unsustainable until very recently. HORIZONS was closed for a variety of reasons, most of which had more to do with sponsorship and a drive to insert more thrills into Epcot. It's ironic that while the attraction closed down on the dawn of the 21st century, the 21st Century is just NOW starting to catch up to HORIZONS, and its vision of what we could dream and do. So yes, in 1999, the forecasts seemed inaccurate in scope and in their bright, hopeful tone. But things have really changed since, and in the years to come, the prognosticating of HORIZONS will almost certainly prove more and more accurate with the passage of time.
@@noahknoxmarshall3001 the song from this attraction was the highlight. The actual attraction was actually pretty weak and didn't really fit the educational aspect of Epcot. It also wasn't distinctly different from Spaceship Earth or World of Motion For what its worth, its message and theme lives today in Spaceship Earth.
Well, we disagree. I loved HORIZONS and regard it as one of Disney's all time best conceived and unique attractions. It embodied the whole of EPCOT Center in philosophy and foreshadowed interactivity in theme park attractions with its "choose your own ending" feature. I like SE, but for me, HORIZONS was a superior and more inspiring experience. But... Clearly not for all. And that's ok. :)

I must come back to say....I have a lot to say about this......everything positive. Where do I begin? It’s so, so good! I absolutely LOVE Horizons for someone born in the early 2000s. It feels good to know Horizons is still alive, and a huge part of it is thanks to you. Keep up the outstanding work!

Outstanding job!! A magical tribute to the original. Horizons was always my favorite attraction at Epcot. I'm so lucky I got to experience it over the years. I miss it and It's sad to think that there will never be another attraction like Horizons in any Disney park ever again.

@@gijspiano Hirizons was my grandmother's favorite ride she just loved the hope and inspiration that Disney had for the future I liked the end where you can choose to explore a desert the sea or outer space I mostly chose outer space.

Besides this? I enjoyed the Sherman Brother's version of the Horizons song, though I am glad this became the official one. Besides Horizons I really enjoy Imagination (Journey into Imagination) and Universe of Energy song.
