I got my ears pierced for the first time at the Claire’s there. I remember begging my mom to go to the in-mall arcade as we walked over to Sears. I remember going to Kmart for school supplies for my first day of school. I remember the Inflatable slides and play area. I remember the smell of the food court and how it felt to sit in those chairs.
I haven’t lived there in such a long time. But I wish I could’ve gone there before it closed.

Last time I was there (maybe 2015 or 2016) K mart was still open, but the rest of it was so empty, the main business was someone renting little animal scooters to ride around on.

I stumbled across yoru channel today and I searched ur channel for this mall bc I used to live in that area and I went to that mall frequently when it was open. I actually moved back in October so I remember its closing. I even learned to drive in that mall parking lot after it was shutdown. We were there at opening and there the last sat. night it was open, we even went to the fixture auction. It was a nice mall in it's day but was never supported by the local business community or shoppers. Zamias builder owner did not have the talent or drive to fill it as the mall was never much more the 60% of capacity. At the time malls in Glens Falls, Wilton, Clifton Park and Albany N.Y. were doing well and at 85% capacity while D.R. Mall floundered.
In my view the deal to keep out a movie theater and a $100,000 per impact fee to the city
of Rutland were all part of a bad deal upfront. This is the second Mall in Rutland fail in the past 40 years. I do not think there will ever be a "Mall" in Rutland again. The State hates business and the "old guard" of Rutland County have no vision for Rutland County growth. We have gone from being the 2nd largest city in VT. to the 4th! Most all retail growth is in Chittenden County where the dollars live. IF your a big box store your not coming to Rutland unless your Tractor Supply of Harbor Freaight....sad

My mom and I just saw it briefly today when we accidentally ended up in the lane to in it. It is sad that it’s sitting abandoned like that.
In other news, I had no idea that Grand Union made a revival and has a location in Rutland. We stopped there as we hadn’t been to a Grand Union pretty much since it left Brattleboro.

Hallmark store was in the Diamond Run Mall as was Victoria Secret, Christopher Banks, many other great stores were there in the beginning.
We would do our ‘mall’ shopping at Diamond Run. It was a great mall but Rutland residents said the mall should have never been built on the hill and away from being down in the city part of Rutland.

right?! it's bonkers! in this mall, that gap was occupied by Subway - further into the mall, on the left side there was a corridor just after the mall offices/bathrooms where there was a drink/snack OJ-type place - served iced drinks and bavarian pretzels, can't remember the name for the life of me tho. good times

The halls of this mall are where I pulled open my Charizard Pokemon card from a pack back in 1999. First time I ever visited this mall. I still remember running back to the card shop to show them and having my picture taken. They were in disbelief. I wish I had that picture. When I got back to school that Monday and word spread what I had, I was the talk of the school that day. That seems like yesterday to me. I went back with a girlfriend in 2008 or 2009 and the mall was already heavily in decline by that point. I remember the American Eagle had just gone out of business, it was the first time we had ever seen an AE go under. There was a womens clothing store that she liked though. I remember the abandoned Kay Bee Toys was still there at the time with the signage still up

"Dead mall" in this... uh... hobby of ours can refer to a mall that's clearly on its last legs or that will soon be closing, and doesn't necessarily mean it's been abandoned and decaying for years (though those are dead malls, too).
