Work van road rage?

- Was traveling north on I-71 in Bellville Ohio. I approached some slower traffic in the right and center lanes. I checked my mirrors, noting that there was a Sprinter type of van in the left lane approximately a quarter mile behind me. I began my pass and assumed the van would catch up to me at about the time I completed my pass. At this time I had no idea that he wasn't behind me. I finished passing the truck in the center lane and began moving back out of the left lane. I checked my mirrors again and just barely caught movement out of the corner of my eye. The movement was the Sprinter van flying up my right side. You can see in the video that I hesitate for a second, and that is what prevents a collision. He then continued at high speed cutting through traffic until he was out of sight.
What's the point of honking after and not before/during the dangerous driving?

Well he could have used the left passing lane if the semis in the middle lane ever moved over to the right lane that nobody is ever in. I drive the highway everyday for work and semis sit in the left and middle lanes driving the same speed blocking everyone. Many have to pass on the right because of it.
The main problem that caused this chain of events is the stupid car going so slow that a semi that wasn't even going the speed limit passed them. Car drivers, if you can't at least go the speed limit, just stay off the interstate. You're in the way. You caused multiple vehicles to move out of the lane they were supposed to drive in because you're too old and slow to be driving.
People are just too oblivious anymore or looking for a quick buck for cutting off a truck and causing an accident

Huh. First time the ‘van driver’ isn’t really at fault… Was a stupid move, but he showed up in the mirror passing on the right well-before the truck started to change lanes…
@Troy Jollimore But the van was a fault. It is illegal to pass on the right. The tractor trailer was completely in the right.

@@65armadillo I pass wherever/whenever it's safe to do so. But then, I usually make my intentions clear to the traffic around me. Most don't think about that.
Troy, I don't know where you live, but this kind of behavior is called undertaking. In many jurisdictions, it is considered illegal, if not frowned upon. Let's think back to driver's ed: they teach you how to pass a semi and that always on the left side. The reason being is for the increasing number of blind spots the semi has on the right side. For your sake, and the sake of others, please stop driving like this! Thank you!

I was in Ohio. They only have a lane restriction on the turnpike and in a handful of urban areas. I was out in the middle of nowhere when this occurred. No restriction.

Some states don’t allow semi’s in the left lane on highways more than 2 lanes wide. I’m not sure on this stretch of highway. Each state and section of highway could be different.
OK nerd. I still use the left to pass rather you like it or not. In 23 yrs not one ticket for doing so. Your law os retarded. And that van wouldn't have done that to me. I mover back over tonthe right faster than this dude and if he did that he would have been nailed. I've rammed 2 aholes like that already and totaled their vehicles out and both times the morons were issued tickets.

I drove a service van for 11 years and what many may not realize is that for some reason people just don't seem to want the vans passing just like they don't want to be behind a semi. I assume it's because of the visibility issue. I'm not condoning this masshole's actions in any way...just pointing out something that adds to the ire of service van drivers. Another thing is that these vans have a GVWR of less than 10,001 Lbs. and do not fall into the HOS (Hours Of Service) rules. Here in Georgia, you can be fired for refusing to work overtime. I've had work days that exceeded 24 hours and that includes driving time. I would drive home from my last call banging on my legs trying to stay awake! Imagine semis driving for 24 hours straight...with a service van not only is it legal, but you can be fired for refusing to keep working! I guess the powers that be figure a van will kill less people than a semi would. In any case, he was lucky that the cammer was a pro and didn't destroy his employer's van.

As far as I am aware, there is no such rule in the States.
@@billhammerlanestarkey5831 In some state you can be ticketed for passing on the right, but there's signage for it. Kudos to you for actually passing and getting back over. More often than not, trucks get over to pass then take 3 minutes to actually clear the truck they are passing because they are only going .05 mph faster. The van gambled on passing the same truck you passed on the right, and he lost.

He didn't "cut the guy off" as you say. He changed lanes and that poor guy was doing at least 15 mph over the speed limit in my guestamation. Douchebag couldn't wait for 10 seconds for the trucker(cammer) to pass the other trucker. So he went around passing on the Right, which is Bad. Just because the van is doing 80mph in the left lane doesn't mean somebody doing 70mph can't use it to pass slower traffic as well. You just have to wait a few seconds before you put the pedal to the metal again.
@Sidney VanDyke II that's called cutting someone off. There's no way of knowing how fast the van was going, but bottom line is cutting people off is dangerous and bad. No matter the speed.
Van should get behind the semi and pass in the left lane like you're supposed to. Dude in van almost got what he deserved

I know I been dealing with this stuff 23 yrs now. You always pass on the left. They teach you that for a reason
Why do you people get angry when a truck is passing the jackass who refuse to pass and move back over. Course if the we had quality law enforcement that actually enforced state traffic laws instead of harassing truck drivers with unconstitutional regulations.
Apparently you changed lanes without an indicator. He had every right to move into the center lane, as you were hogging the left lane.
Or the van wasn’t looking or was looking and tried to cut in between the trucks. The semi was PASSING in the PASSING LANE going 70 he wasn’t hogging the left lane
Apparently you have no clue as to what you are talking about. Passing on the right is illegal. Hogging is when you sit in a passing lane, not passing anyone. Any good truck driver gives the slower truck 2 tractor trailer lengths before coming back over. The camper did everything right. And how can you tell he didn’t use his indicators?

Looks like someone's in a hurry to be fitted for a coffin. A friend of my wife learned not to split between trucks like that the hard way. She made a habit of doing that until one day it got her a trip to the hospital.
