I can't wait to purchase this and get it together. I've read that a lot of people were having trouble with the assembly so thanks for the awesome tutorial!
Good use of manual focus, Peter. :) The close-ups really help a lot for videos like these. I really want this game. Been a fan of all the licensed games GF9 has done so far.
Thanks mate - the Canon camera has the advantage of a touch screen to change focus, but sadly it's still slow, so I have to fade edit between the bits!
Wow, this is great timing, we literally just started assembling our set today. Pretty easy models to put together so far. We've only got the Alien Warriors left to do.
Subscribed. I've been building plastic models since the 1970s. Everything in this video is valuable information. I used to build models of everything from tanks to aircraft carriers (with their planes). Great information I even learned a few tricks in this video. Great work, you deserve more subscribers. Thank you for creating this video. Nowadays I paint miniatures (poorly) for board games, but I still find it relaxing and fun.
In case you never found out, the Tamiya glue brush has a little cylinder in the end that lets you pull it out to extend the brush head a bit more. I only recently found out about this game and have ordered it, so I watched this to hype myself up haha
@@EsotericOrderGamers I'm not sure if all of them do but the extra thin cement brush does at least, you need to pull on the plastic tube just above the brush tip and it'll slide out of the main tube, you don't want to pull it too far or it'll be too long and push against the bottom of the container though!
@@Mr_Waffle. What a crazy bit of over-engineering that could easily be fixed by a longer brush and a different bottle shape ... thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.
I’ll never understand what would have been so difficult for Gale Force 9 to have made full complete miniatures and on a larger scale . I’m a builder. I’ve never worked with such tiny little fiddly bits in my life .
Making plastic miniatures is a surprisingly complex process, especially ones of high detail. As an experienced miniature painter, I found these pretty normal (Games Workshop ones can be far more fiddly), but the problem here is that the game appealed to a much broader audience of boardgamers, many of whom had to face (without warning) building detailed minis for the first time ever. So that certainly caused quite a bit of grief.
Great videos, thanks for uploading. I was just wondering if you could tell me the base size for the loader and the queen? I just ordered all the boxes and I want to use some third party resin bases :)
There's a 3D miniature modeler on Patreon that released an entire proxy set based on Aliens. The alien models look a little different from the original ones, but the human characters can be used for proxies. Funny enough though, the release happened right when I bought the entire Aliens: AGDITC set. :D
Thanks for the video. (I know it's 2 years old), but I just purchased the game and now gluing. I am a bit frustrated with mounting on the bases (Alien), as I held it for a few seconds and left to dry, only to find that several hours later, the figure was sleeping on the job. (lying neatly next to its base). I didn't realise they had a place to 'clip' onto the base, but failing eyesight is to blame for that. I'm just hoping that I can attach them properly. You made it look easy. Great video, thank you. Now to get back to gluing.......(gulp).
If it's the right kind of plastic glue, the plastic should 'melt' together for a very strong bond. Make sure you're using a plastic glue designed for plastic models like this: www.mightyape.co.nz/product/tamiya-liquid-cement-40ml/26074552
Yes I'm using the right glue, I think it's just me. The fixture to the base seems so fragile. I guess leaving it for 24 hours should fix it......here's hoping. Thanks for your reply.
That's sort of the whole point of the scenes at the start of the film (that include that quote) where the marines are portrayed as tough and full of self-confidence. You know, irony and all that. :)
How have you found storage to be for these figures? i hear the Aliens are quite brittle an the base game box isn't the best for holding the components and models safely.
I made compartments out of foamcore and super glued thin sheet steel to the floors of them, then magnetised the minis. I'll show them off on a video when I get around to it!
Gluing before painting?! SACRILEGE! Just kidding (unlike many TH-cam comments :-D), I appreciate all you do, and have for years. A thousand thank-yous!

I am waiting for my version to arrive in two months :) with all expansions. But there is one thing that irritates me a lot about alien models. Inverted tails. The spine structure should be on the top not on the bottom part of the tail. I hope to change the shape of the tail with hot water like with PRODOS miniatures for AvP.
Those aliens were quite difficult to assemble for soneone like myself who hasn't assembled miniatures before. I had a nice pair of cutters, a arts and crafts scalpel and some rapidly drying glue but it was still such a pain. The head and the body halves and the arms are relatively easy but getting the alien to stand in the small "semi-holes" was abysmal. I just wonder why didn't they just put the "through-holes" like with the marines? But definitely the most difficult part was the tail. It should have had similar hole as with what the marines had for their arms and weapons. As models themselves they are still really nice looking.
Awesome! Looks like a great game! For the record I was also giggling when you were doing alien bottom probing! I’m in the minority I think, but I prefer the first movie, brilliant, terrifying!
@@EsotericOrderGamers I'm with you. Alien/Aliens is one of the few (if only?) cases where a sequel was great, but took a very different approach to the material. And I have no problem with people not liking one or the other. It's so great that Aliens wasn't just a retread of Alien. It's too bad that later films weren't as successful at trying another tack within the Alien universe. I still have yet to watch the assembly cut of Alien 3, though. I hear it's a bit better than the theatrical release. I'm actually here because I'm looking for miniature to use with the Alien TTRPG by Free League Publishing. They also make several other awesome RPG games, not the least of which is The One Ring, which is considered to be the best Middle-Earth RPG out there to date. The same creators that worked on the 1st edition (publisher: Cubicle 7) are now at Free League and just funded the new 2nd edition of the game through Kickstarter. The are also planning on continuing the 5e version of The One Ring, Adventures in Middle-Earth, very soon! 😀 Seems like a lot of game publishers are putting out material through Kickstarter these days. It's great because that means there are so many more products out there. The only downside is that if you want a particular product you have to back the Kickstarter campaign for it or else you might not be able to the products later. However, well established publishers usually just use Kickstarter to launch the product and are then able to stock copies afterwards. Anyway, I think I'm done with my rambling. Take care and be well! 😀
That's helpful. How long do you let the glue set? I went to the local hobby shop and got sprue cutters similar to those and Tamiya liquid cement. Those and the citadel mold line remover were recommended on BGG. I'll try cleaning an Alien up with an x-acto blade first. I'm not looking forward to the tails. Until it's dry. :) Glue setting times vary - check the container - but plastic glue is pretty fast. I built these with very few pauses, though you may want to wait for some bits to get a stronger bond as you go. The tails don't have to match the bodies - there are 2 interchangeable styles. The instruction sheet says put a body half and spine together first, but you can do it either way, it doesn't matter.
@@EsotericOrderGamers Thanx. The good thing is there's plenty of Aliens to see what works and what I'm comfortable with. It would take forever without sprue cutters.
