Kevin Smith not only bought all his comics back, he bought the store he sold them to. It's called "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash" and he still owns it. He wrote a Clerks comic that followed up on some of the things that happened in the movie like the funeral fiasco. He also did a short lived Clerks animated series on ABC that was hysterical but didn't have any support from the network.

But when it came close to filming, he realized that he couldn't remember his lines and direct the movie at the same time so he ended playing the mute character instead. In fact, his one line was supposed to be said by Jay but Jay couldn't do it, so he did it instead.

There's factor in the argument about the presence of independent contractors on the Death Star II that's never brought up. Randall claims that independent contractors are collateral damage while the roofer posits that they should know the risk involved in choosing to work with the Empire. I maintain that, given how the Empire operates, any independent contractors involved were probably not given the choice on whether or not they wanted to work with the Empire.
That's even assuming there were any independent contractors in the Empire. Many of the commercial entities before the Empire were part of the Separatists' Confederation and were absorbed into the Empire at the end of the Clone Wars.

Dante getting shot at the end was the ORIGINAL ending. Harvey Weinstein, ( Yea, him ) told Kevin to make a happy ending since it was supposed to be a comedy and if it ended on a such a down note THAT is what people would remember not how much they laughed.

This movie reminds me so much of the 'underground' comics of my youth (I think they started coming out in the late 60s). The creativity, the sex talk, the slacker mentality, etc. It would fit right in with that vibe.

Working at Blockbuster from 1995-2000, there was an official company policy that employees got 5 free rentals a week of anything not on the new release wall. There was an UN-official store policy that no new hire could access this perk until they spent their first free rental on this movie. Store manager called it a better training tape than anything that ever came from corporate headquarters.

The joke with the cigarettes sale to the kid is kind of an 80s/90s thing, nobody carded anybody, mainly because some parents, if they were too drunk, or lazy, or whatever, would send their kids out to buy booze, smokes, etc. True fact.

The "alternate" ending is the original ending, the one that Kevin used when he showed the film at Sundance. According to him, when the movie got picked up for distribution, it was the studio head who told him the ending didn't work. Smith says the exec told him we spend the whole film getting to know Dante, empathizing with him and eventually rooting for him, only to have him die at the end in a senseless act of violence. He felt like they should scrap that ending and allow viewers to just focus on and enjoy the friendship between Dante and Randall. Smith said the suggestion made a lot of sense to him, which is why he cut out that ending, and he has never regretted doing it given the positive response it received.
