I love how well Julia handles Dave’s snarky awkwardness....
this woman was intelligent, and no joke. Just a gracious, gifted woman. Dave was lucky to have this icon as his guest.

She rented a house in the UK in the mid 70's. My wife helped with the housekeeping there and Julia gave her a recipe " Gigot a la moutarde" which over the years we have made many times and continue to do so. Highly recommended.

Something not well known about Julia Child and her show was that it was the first to offer captioning, at her insistance, and it was at her base PBS station WGBH-Boston that the technology which gives us Closed Captioning was invented. To this day WGBH provides support for closed captioning of programming for many broadcasters.

These vignettes are delightful, and for me at 78, a happy trip down memory lane. Julia was and to this day remains a wonder.
I once met her, briefly, and she was the only woman whose kind eyes I could look directly into, me then in the long ago days standing 6’4”. In my dotage, I occasionally remember that fortunate meeting as one of my life’s high points.
Julia Child, one of America’s greatest treasures… We can never thank her enough for what she taught us as a culture.

The Galloping Gourmet!! On our black and white tv, too. My mother loved him. And I’m so grateful that Julia Child’s early shows are saved, to enjoy again and again. When health food became a big deal, and they asked her about her free use of cream, butter, etc., she said “ I don’t think we should be afraid of our food”!

I can remember the first Sesame Street, Electric Company episodes. Sometimes things pop up on TH-cam and memories surface. I was always told I had false memories and that I couldn't remember things at 2 or 3 years of age. No one will ever know because they're my memories and mine alone.

    • @stevedyches4635
      @stevedyches4635 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Gio_Vanni6143 I still remember things from when I was about three. I remember being in the hospital for an operation at 2.5-years-old, had the scar till well into my teens. I was told later it was for a hernia. I even remember crawling around on our front porch unattended and picking up ants and eating them, they were sour by the way. Not too sure how old I was at that time, but I'm guessing between 2 and 3. Now, there are such things as false memories, but there are things that one may recall and think about throughout their life and it stays with them, and sometimes it may not be entirely accurate but a memory nonetheless. There are many other things that I remember from my early childhood before I was 4 and the small town that I grew up in.

33:14 Letterman: Have you ever cooked something, Julia, that just turned out awful?
    Julia: Yeah! Lots of items.
Letterman: What do you do then?
Julia: I give it to my husband.
    Legendary. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Also just want to say I have no issues with the editing. What's left in and what isn't is up to the curator and its amazing to see the effort here.
I love the last line of this wonderful compilation.

Her strawberry soufflé that she mentions in the first segment is found in her book From Julia Child's Kitchen and it IS all that.

I came here to see her because of the TV programme with Sarah Lancashire. I now see that she has her down just right: tall, high voice and a fun, honest and genuine character.
