Thank you, Richard Blade, for playing this song today on First Wave. 51 years old and I, shockingly, never heard this song before. Thankful for satellite radio!!!
I loved the fact that John Peel championed the band and therefore I could still be 'cool' loving this perfect pop, alongside all the other great music from the era (Cure, Bunneymen, Banshees, Clash, Undertones etc, etc).
So did I although I think I got it from WH Smiths (when they stocked 45 singles). This is my favourite Altered Images song - sort of like cute pop/punk!
It wouldn't be so overlooked if they video had decent audio quality. It took me 5mins to make my own version with clean audio, and I did it on my mobile phone 🙄
Ah the jangly guitar pop of the early 80's!. And early 80's pop promos...can't beat it!. Good track this...not one of their better known tracks but it's a forgotten gem...
A massive salute to both Altered images and The Prisoner! 2 Shining memories as a kid of the 80`s.Seeing whats around me i`m so grateful i got to grow up n these times!!!
a freakin' and totally underrated band from the New Wave era...radio should do back justice and spin See Those Eyes , Dont Talk To Me About Love, Bring Me Closer etc....all over again! Guitar ideas on See Those Eyes is more creative than most songs out there ❤ from malaysia
How did I ever go through the Eighties and not ever heard of Altered Images.I remember hearing Happy Birthday in Sixteen Candles and loving the song and only recently finding out it was Altered Images.I love Claire!
It's a pity that The Prisoner series lasted only for one season; but then again, what more could have been added? And yet the cold war continues, as Russia openly infiltrates the very pinnacles of U.S. government. A Rover is waiting to take Donald Trump (what number is he?) back to the Village (Mar-a-Lago or some facimile) come November.
Me too. That's when I saw the lovely Clare with Altered Images in concert at Lancaster. If it was 1982 I could go and see them again - and get closer to the front to see her better. Great gig, stunningly beautiful singer with a great voice, happy happy times.
I watched Altered Images in Scotland as a youngster, loved the band and CG. Moved to Uni in London, lived in N London, Crouch End, CG lived in the next St, awkward, we never spoke but it was so weird.

The way back machine is on full effect listening to this song. I was a lonely teenaged werewolf... Not really but I may as well have been a werewolf, I was lonely and didn't know where I belonged. Hanging out at the Little Deli (that was the name) in New Rochelle, NY, one night I had the boombox blasting and was bored with Zep after Zep songs and stumbled on a station called WLIR from Long Island... ...a voice came over that sounded like an angel... Claire Patricia Grogan (born 17 March 1962), known professionally as Clare Grogan or sometimes as C. P. Grogan, is a Scottish actress and singer. She is best known as the lead singer of the 1980s new wave music group Altered Images, as well as for supporting roles in the 1981 film Gregory's Girl and the science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf as the first incarnation of Kristine Kochanski.[1]
I loved this song so much when I first came across it, and I am seeing this video for the first time 20 years later... I never realized that the Top of the Pops video I liked so much was a reference, down to the dress and the dance moves Ms. Grogan did around 1:17. The thought I had when I heard this album for the first time was that every song had one or two too many parts, in the best possible way. It seemed like (with Television) there were themes that were staggered and overlapped in different ways from one verse to the next...ugh. I love it so much. I heard there was a lost Claire Grogan solo album...I hope we get that someday!!
Agreed just as listenable now as back in my days as a skateboarding croupier plumber punk rocker anarchistic cider drinking youth ah yes 1981/1982 two years that changed me from a boy to a kid best years of my life and this tune is one of the soundtracks of my life god waffle a lot these days . What a trip down memory lane borrowing this on Altered Images tape of lass next door Angie fit as fook I thought she looked like Clare Grogan is a BANG TIDY Cracking times and music growing up.
I listened to this song back in the 80s but never watched the video before and I'm a big Prisoner fan! I have the series on DVD and loaned it to a coworker to watch and he got into it too! I worked processing loan paperwork and I was assigned loans that end in 6 and he was assigned number 2, lol. We would always joke about it. That was 20 years ago, when we see each other now I still call him number 2, lol. Thanks Altered Images!
From what you mention about your job and your taste in television, I have a sense you'd get a lot out of AppleTV's new (new to me, anyway!) show, 'Severance', if you get a chance to see it. The lyrics of the song even have strong parallels with the show. (Course, on the other hand, it might be that in fact you'd _hate_ it, who knows?!)
Love Altered Images, still. Love 'The Prisoner' as well. Clever video. I'd like to see a where are they now, about Altered Images. The 80's were so much fun! 😎
Claire re-formed the band some years ago and they're still going strong. Lots of UK tours and Claire pops up on TV quite often. Not too sure about some of the other original members.
I loved Sweet, it was one of my fave bands, loved their songs and image. Their B sides and album tracks were good. Brian Connolly was my idol, he so good good looking and a good singer. R.I.P. Brian.
Gonna add ....not the first girl I loved. Oh thats some lass from 28 years ago. Still hold a wee candle for ....well....the 14-20 year old version of her. Someone who no longer exists
Saw them at de montfort Hall Leicester on there pinky blue tour in 1982 then in December last year with the human league sang this song both times nearly forty years apart and was brilliant both times.
I'm 70 years old and I think Altered Images are a great band, and as for Claire she's special.
Such great use of Vox guitars ♡♡♡♡

Oh yeah altered images are legendary. I remember Claire was in eastenders bk in the late 90s

I loved the fact that John Peel championed the band and therefore I could still be 'cool' loving this perfect pop, alongside all the other great music from the era (Cure, Bunneymen, Banshees, Clash, Undertones etc, etc).
I had this on 45rpm vinyl. Great days going into Woolworths when there were 40 boxes filled with vinyl records for each song in the charts.
So did I although I think I got it from WH Smiths (when they stocked 45 singles). This is my favourite Altered Images song - sort of like cute pop/punk!
This one gets overlooked. The 12" version is best. She was so cute and addictive. happy relief in bleary times.
I think in 1982 it was a transition between post punk gloom and a more positive outlook. This track is great representation.
It wouldn't be so overlooked if they video had decent audio quality.
It took me 5mins to make my own version with clean audio, and I did it on my mobile phone 🙄

Honest new wave sound in brute!
Perfect for the song, perfect timing, basically perfect song and great group!

First Crush - Claire Grogan. Heavenly.
I hear that too much
She was and still is Bang tidy... loved her a kid
Me too!
She lays huge steaming logs, just like other human beings.
Yes she is, and her first name is spelled "Clare."
If I had to name three songs that marked the New Wave/New Romantic era for me, this would be one of them. Still "grogeous" after all those years
Clare I blame for instigating, stifling, wrenching,& inspiring every maddening moment of puberty. Thank you, Miss Grogan.
Purely by coincidence I was visiting Portmeirion the day this video was made. Must be the first time I heard the song.
Two of my favorite things, the 80's band, Altered Images, and The Prisoner tv show from the late 60's, awesome crossover!
The video reminds me of "The Prisoner", too.
