Shame to see the state of the old place. I used to be a staff nurse there. A couple of points, those small "bedrooms" were actually offices in the administration section. The vaulted "dungeon" area was the hospital stores, holding everything from stationary to syringes. "Male 8", or Hafan Ward, was not the locked ward for dangerous patients, it was the Sick Ward, where patients with physical illnesses were treated. The locked ward was actually "Male 6", or Ffrancon Ward, and was on the second floor. The "panic lights" you saw above the doors, were actually just standard nurse calls. The Broken weighing machine was in what was the laundry. The old place also had a magnificent huge ballroom with a stage and projection room, but this was burnt down by vandals not so long ago.
It's always really interesting when former staff, and sometimes even patients, comment on their time at former hospital sites. Gives a lot of context to what we're actually seeing, as these places are so lost to time and legend now that it's all become even more mysterious and the actual history is lost. To everyone who has never worked in one these places are complete oddities, almost like live living horror film sets but to yourself and other people who were there, these places were everyday life. I've seen very similar weighing machines in other asylums like Severalls, and it's a shame that most of the great asylum halls get torched for all sorts of reasons. A lot of patient-made props and backdrops usually get lost as well, which is really sad. Thanks for sharing some info and your experience!
we all know men can still dominate bitches thats why no bitch will run this country cause men will revolt against Hillary Clinton. fuck that weak shit and no bitch needs that much power to run the presidency. Hillary can't enslave and cannot lock up every male in America to assert control a de coup will over throw bitches in power
The part where you talk about a room having "mental asylum colours"... that particular shade of pink actually has the name, Baker-Miller Pink, chosen for its calming properties and ability to reduce hostile behaviour. It is also called Drunk Tank Pink for its use in calming down drunks when placed in cells that were painted in that colour.
Mental asylum videos always freak me out. The patients rooms were so small. I would feel so trapped. This place is beautiful on the outside, but not so beautiful on the inside. If those walls could talk I bet a lot of awful things happened there.
I’ve been there and before it was a asylum they use to torture people with mental health there when it first opened I literally live around the corner from the asylum
David Jones no it actually wasn’t it was built as a hospital for the mental health but they use to torture people there before turning it into a actual hospital
Nice video. I love the young man's excitement, however, his fixation on castles leads me to think he hasn't been to many medieval castles. This doesn't look like a medieval castle.
It's not a castle? And it's not Medieval, it's a modern building if it was built in the 1850's? I know that by American standards something from 1850 is 'like really old like'
Still can't believe you were so close to my area! Really wanted to go to Denbigh asylum before it got so popular and the police sent out a warning about the roofs falling! Still looks so cool
Metal Asylums hold a dark place in histôry. Modern treatment of those with disabilities has only been posîtive for those effected. It's sad to think we just discarded kids.
Actually they only hold a dark place for the Ill informed. The setting up of asylums was a progressive move where "lunatics" given care and what was deemed the best treatment of the day. Some procedures might seem barbaric by today's standard but so would an operation or an amputation from the same time! I worked at this hospital and I assure you it wasn't a dark place.. The patients were well cared for
Sally May well in the case here teenagers take it back by regularly sneaking in and vandalising the place. There have been about 3 fire there in 2 years and it was mostly burned down on the last one. Most of the old place is still standing today but the scorch marks never leave. The council are also planning to turn it into a block of flats and it will be sad to see it go and be lost in time
This reminds me of knowle mental asylum in Hampshire. I use to go exploring there I around about 2000 just as they started work on developing it in to a village. It's shame I didn't have a camera on my phone back then, it was beautiful seeing the amazing architecture being take back buy nature. It it facanating how they built mental asylums as self contained villages. From the people I've spoken to who had connections to it, Knowles last decade (it fully shut in 1996) people were happy there staff and service users. I don't imagine it was that way for most of its years. It was opened in 1852 and closed in 1996. It was originally called Hampshire County Lunatic Asylum, changing its name to Knowle Mental Hospital and finally knowle hospital. The site was 108 acres, it had its own train station, chaple and most facilities a village or town would have. A few photos can still be found online.
I'm now in Lincoln England thanks to you inspiring me to explore and travel. I'm going here when lock down over. I'm 55 and finally living. Thank you Cody, miss your videos so rewatching your old ones.
I live in Wales and me and my parents saw it. Also I went to a lot of ruins in Wales and I hope you also went to see them. Wales is truly a wonderful place to visit.
Cody not everything old in the UK is a castle, castles are fortified buildings used by nobility and the wealthy this place is just a set of old buildings, keep up the great videos.....
“Well that looks very not safe” proceeds to walk over said “not safe floor”😂😂 I’m late to this video but I’ve got a recent interest in this building I think it’s stunning now it’s getting done up
My Grandpa was the Duke...Henry Denbigh Eden Ellis, I...along my siblings are his last remaining bloodlines. Way cool to see his. He recently passed but he was salt of the earth. Amazing, incredible, noble and kind.
Ooo this was a great video to watch, this is local to near where I live we was always told there is a security guard walking around? Do you permission to explore inside or not? X
Basically the "decent" members of society didnt want the crazies walking among them, so they hid them away in places like this, and later on performed some extreme procedures on them, pretty frightening if you think about it, and you didnt really have to be insane to be considered insane, you just had to disagree about certain ideological things, like religion or politics, that would be enough to guarantee your silence. I have to admit, this place is one of the most striking buildings left to rot in the entire UK, it is so grand yet so derelict, which is a powerful combination. I think I will have to visit this place next summer if i get the chance, just hope Elwyn doesn't catch me =) Awesome video, will subscribe to all three!
I absolutely love the buildings which have the huge courtyard areas like this place! It is really showing it's age, hopefully it holds on for a little while longer!
Just thought I'd mention that 4 years on and this place is still standing, I've just been here today and its amazing although there are now signs of demolition work taking place. The 1st area he goes in has had a fire that kids started so you can't see much in there anymore but there is a small network of underground tunnels where the pipes run through and pitch black without a 🔦 that isn't shown in this vid. Got collared by a security guard as we were leaving but he was a cool guy and he even told us about another abandoned asylum in the next town. Checking that 1 out soon.

This video is so cringe. First off, it's not a castle, never was. It's a Victorian building. Secondly, they are NOT demolishing this place - it is a listed building so it can't be destroyed! It's so funny seeing an American who has no idea or clue about the building or the area.

Hi Cody great video thank you. I have learned that the main front of the asylum, where you started your video is grade 2 listed and they can't demolish this part. plans have been submitted to the local council to build houses round the front. In your drone shots the main façade has a new roof so fingers crossed. As for the rest of the place I think it's a gonner.

the vein slayer anti hillary rant way out of left field. I hate her as much as everyone else but damn u need a chill pill man.

Natalie Wooding Some correctional facilities like city and county jails in the US have cells painted blue or pink, calming properties of those colors.
Thanks for that! Very interesting!

It's neither medieval or a castle 🙈😄
good one dude, I'm glad you came with me I knew you'd love it.roll on part 2 lol
Urbex Paranormal we are all glad he went with you....amazing video!
ya! saw ur video it was good too!!!
is this place guarded ...can i just go there and explore freely ??
excellent tour. My mother was in there as a patient when I was a young child
I hope she is okay now !

Built in 1841 - makes about 600 years too late to be medieval. But it is interesting

Most Haunted really attracted people to this place to make it far worse than it used to look. Thank god I got in there before the fire.
Wished I'd managed to get there just after MH had filmed before all the damage was caused.

Cody you have done wales a great honour and your imagination is second to none.

No, it was built as an asylum, I trained and worked there. In the 1980's I hasten to add. Most were suffering before they came to stay there.
Anyone know the music name ?

Curious to see the next video of you climbing that thing

anyone notice the orbs and a white line move across the corner of the chimney at the top left of the asylum?
Love this, right near me. Thank you for the great video! :D
