    The thing about Panasonic is they overbuild their hardware to accommodate for future software updates. Firmware is only going to get better and make full use of everything under the hood later down the line.

    Great video mate! But just a few things you missed out on that clearly place the S1 a rung above the A7iii
    - Way better weather sealing and durability
    - Highest Res EVF
    - A status LCD on the top plate
    - A superior High Res Mode
    - Best in class video recording capabilities
    The continuous AF seemed to hold up pretty well in this video. I'm sure the prices will come down too with time!
    I'd be okay paying up to $500 more for the S1

    • @dasaauto2024
      @dasaauto2024 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How about it being big AF? It should have a medium format sensor in it at that size. But Panasonic’s MFT camera’s are bigger than Sony’s APS-C bodies, so maybe some people just like a lot to grab onto. Idk.

      @@dasaauto2024 I would agree! Panasonic makes bigger than usual bodies but that wouldn't be a negative for me because they are still GREAT handling. I think Sony's full frame bodies are awfully small and quirky. What do you think?

      At first I thought so as well, and there must be a difference in exposure especially when he was shooting outside. But it seems obvious to me how much better the Lumix controls and renders highlights. Freeze the video at 2:58 and pay attention to the aqua "border" along the leaves in the background on the Sony. Check the S1 afterward. Look also at the transition between that aqua border and the clouds... It's not good on the a7 especially when compared to the S1. That could have something to do with the exposure but I think it has to do more with the 10bit and the internal processing. Freeze it at 10:51; notice how the highlights on the back (on the wood) are much better controlled. Again, he should have exposed by looking at the histogram and not the settings, but still, I doubt the a7 once exposed down would render the highlights as smoothly as the S1.

    $2,300 for a standard 50mm...Bit pricey for new lens. They would make millions if they dropped the price of the lens and made the camera lighter and smaller and a flippy screen so you can see yourself. Easy. Put a selfy setting as that's what people recognise in the menu or button and a power button in another area.

      Phil Jones65 - same reason pro video studio cameras aren't small. Real men have the proper sized equipment.

    • @organicskincare
      @organicskincare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Phil Jones65 - mirrorless smaller, lighter is a fad. Future pro mirrorless cameras will be nearly equivalent in size and weight to its DSLR counterparts.

    • @organicskincare
      @organicskincare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phil Jones65 - I believe we have 5 main camera markets;
      1. Camera phone (#1 in sales)
      2. Consumer (point and click to M50)
      3. Entry level + (a6400, EOS RP, Fuji, micro 4/3 cameras)
      4. Prosumer (Z6, Z7, EOS R, A7 iii)
      5. PRO (5D mark iv, 1dx mark ii, a9, D850, D5)
      You are about to see big changes in the next two camera manufacturing cycles. Camera companies are currently in a "market testing" phase.
      The camera phone will continue to squeeze all markets leaving the super cheap and super expensive cameras in the end. Much like our society; the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. Our middle class is being phased out.
      The current entry level + camera market is dying and will soon be abysmal.
      The prosumer market will follow, but will take another cycle for this to end. I would not invest in this market right now.
      Our galaxy's and iphones now have such good cameras and video, that the average person no longer desires "better" photography or video. Convenience always wins, even if it's crap.
      The future looks bright for high end cameras. The more expensive models will do good, at least this is what Panasonic is projecting. In the next 3-5 years consumer (the poor) cameras will be sub $1,000 ($300-800 range) in order to sell and pro (the rich) cameras will be ruling the market with prices exceeding $4,000 for the average body. Pro camera lenses will averagely exceed $2,000.
      Z6, a7, eos r are middle-road (prosumer) cameras. This is a "test market" and will begin to die out withing a few years - leaving the cheap, entry level sub $1,000 market and the high end $4,000 plus pro market bodies.

But as far as video is concerned, the S1 4K video image quality is just way better than GH5 (full-frame sensor!) and that July 10-bit 4:2:2 internal update will make it the only full-frame mirrorless camera on the market to be able to do that without external recorders via HDMI.

    Get the S1. Grown men complaining about the weight of a camera and a lens is... sad. Chelsea Northrup, Evelyn from CameraTV, women reviewers on TH-cam are using DSLRs like the 1D mark II, D5, or reviewing the new Fuji GFX100 or Pana's S1/S1R without complaining. If you want a flippy screen, the Pana S1H is coming in the fall. The S1 is simply the best FF mirrorless hybrid on the market. The A7III doesn't even compare. Weather-sealing, 5.6 mil EVF, 400K shutter cycle, 4K 10bit 4:2:0 HLG and soon 10bit 4:2:2 internal with the free VLOG update, doesn't overheat, doesn't feel like a toy, menu system isn't a mess, free 3-year warranty, and now $400 off trade-in rebate until June 22nd... The S1 is getting the exact same video features as the GH5 for free.

    The color out of S1 is much more pleasing, more vibrant, and more punchy than that of A73..
    But for purely VDO and Vlog work, considering size/price/feature/ecosystem, GH5 may be better than those two, even in 2019..
    Thanks for excellent comparisons..

    Isn't it amazing how close the Panasonic looks like the big Leica? Since Leica and Panasonic have been in collaboration for years. No surprise there. I will still take the Sony even with its mental interface and dipsy doodle body. The A7 mk.3 is telepathic in response. Astigmatism backgrounds I will never tolerate and Sony is spot tack sharp everytime. Panasonic adopts phase detect then Panasonic is my camera. Still the forgiven and holy covenant video camera the GH5. WTF! Same lame DFD, but the video in a GH5 is still it!

    I own the S1 and lemme tell you, its ability to handle 10bit 4k 30p and 60p HEAT....is superior to the A7-III. I strongly suspect that Sony's next generation A7S-III will NEED to be the size of the S1 in order to match it's 10bit color and 60p 4k sensor heat and image processing. In fact, I think the Lumix S1 "IS" the A7S-III that we were all waiting for.

    • @TheEverydayDad
      @TheEverydayDad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A7SIII was rumored to be release late last year but had heat issue. I think they will need a new body or severely limit 4K60 to a couple minutes to avoid those heat issue. I suspect a bigger size but not S1 size.

    Why do people make such an emphasis in auto focus? Id like to see you do a cinematic comparison for film not just fkr vlogging. Cuz "filmmakers" use manual...we hate auto focus. If you make a judgement based off auto focus id be questioning your skills with a camera as auto focus doesnt take skill at all. The Sony IBS sucked hardcore yet youd choose that over a Lumix? All because of auto focus? Lame lol The image overall was much more appealing in the Lumix. Color and overall more a film look. Yall who keep making these videos i challenge you to see which camera is more cinematic. A cameras auto focus will suck if the cintrast isnt there. Maual you have more control. I like Sony but Lumix is so much better.
