I love the little detail of Blackbeard's beard smoking since the real pirate Edward Teach supposedly lit his beard on fire with fuses before battle to give off a demonic look

They REALLY didn’t do enough with him. Killed off too soon, he could have been the next Davy jones in my opinion. Great performance.

They brought Barbossa back after killing him in his first movie. They could just as easily bring Blackbeard back too.

This scene alone convinces me that Edward Teach could've been the villain for at least one more movie, maybe two. I'll never understand why they killed him off in this movie. He deserved so much more than that.
He really should have been on the level of Beckett and had the remaining pirate lords have to band together against him, or a pirate civil war

In my opinion,
As Blackbeard was the most feared pirate in real life, it only makes sense that he would have an enchanted sword to go with that reputation. Having such a weapon would make him even more terrifying, he has the power to control items and EVEN MOVE HIS ENTIRE SHIP literally just by making some hand passes over the sword without even doing anything else. You are powerless against that weapon...
And merciful as well, as he can sail, rig, repair, clean, fire the cannons, all with a gentle touch to the sword, but I’m sure all of his loyal crew are people he spared because he empathized with them and their struggles to want to change the world, even if the world to them was merely a ship

and in movie 5 when barbossa owns it, he literally doesnt use it ONCE even tho he's supposed to 'rule the seas'

@@mrbestohyeah Barbossa could not sink an undead ship any more than the Interceptor could sink the Black Pearl before the curse was lifted in the first movie
He can also make other ships alive and control them with the sword. Thats how he captured the Black Pearl, Barbossa describes it the very way.

While I personally think Ian McShane's performance was a bit too muted for the rest of the movie, I LOVE this introduction. Blackbeard was a sophisticated and educated man so having someone as dignified as McShane was a good call. Having him be calm and collected, only raising his voice to make a point is a good touch. And i get the point of his muted performance. This is supposed to be Blackbeard AFTER his supposed death. Dude literally lost his head and now acts on borrowed time. The irony being he acted crazier and more bloodthirsty while ALIVE as apposed to him being calmer after 'death'. I just think he went a BIT too muted and almost dull.

I had loved to see Blackbeard vs Davy Jones. ANd how blackbeard would defend himselves against the kraken. Would he use his ropes to catch the Kraken or use his flamethrowers? It had been quite interesting. And if Davy Jones is heartless it would be difficult for BlackBeard to kill Davy Jones unless he using his ship to find the chest, he first need the key from Davy Jones which I think he could manage to pull off. The battle of the most feared pirates goes royal each others. Would been epic.
You forget Davy Jones' crew can teleport from ship to ship.

@partytimepvz1513 And its not like teleport its more they using some ocean sea weed thing to crawl through the planks to the Pearl. Also Davy Jones helped Jack to get the Pearl in the first place.
I think Blackbeard would win.
Davy has the Kraken but Blackbeard can control not only his ship but others. He could just make the part that summons him not work.
Davy's ship can rise even when it's sunk but Blackbeard can trap it in a bottle before it has the chance to do that.
Blackbeard's undead crew can counter Davy's crew and Blackbeard's ship would give him the edge and allow him to get the key from Jones.

Hang on, if Blackbeard's sword can control and propel a ship. Including other ships than just the Queen Anne, why didn't barbosa use that to control the Black Pearl in the 5th film to help outrun Salazar? He knows how to use it that much is obvious at the end of 4 and it looks like the sword can make a ship move much faster than normal wind so wouldn't that be an advantage?

@@thisnameisfake5657 No .. not really .. blackbeards powers in the series is the most weird random, and unexplained, all pirates supposedly fear him, and he just happens to have all these hoodoo, voodoo whatever magical powers .. and how it gets all gets passed onto barbossa.
If you can bottle up and control ships which are not of your own, then it makes sense that you should be able to replicate the power as simple as "voodoo"ing your ship to sail faster.
at no point it is mentioned that the sword and the ship are linked?
frankly the 5th one was so badly written, not really surprised that all these great tools are barely used at all.

When I first saw this I was a little bit on the edge of my seat because he gave off this dark menacing cold aspect of a villain and then he said mutiners will HANG!

Well he still needed a crew for his ship. He didn't want to kill them, this was just a display of his power for what he COULD do to them. They were at his mercy.
Won't lie though. The idea of hanging over a dozen men in one moment is terrifying and digusting. Blackbeard's SURELY done that at some point in his career. 😳

As much as I liked Geofrey Rush as Barbosa in the original POTC film, I think Ian McShane as Blackbeard was THE best villain of all the movies. He was totally ruthless and fearless right to the very end.

My question is where did Blackbeard get the sword from?
It’s his sword it’s known from history that Blackbeard apparently practiced voodoo black magic witchcraft which means he’s put a spell on his sword so that he can control his ship as if it were alive

I think the Blackbeard character was wasted, any so called magic he could conjure was never shown, the zombie crew and shrunk Black Pearl were there before the movie even started.
The history of Blackbeard was never used, he was killed and beheaded by the Royal Navy, he could have resurrected himself via his zombie magic (and sewed his head back on) and sought the Fountain to cure him and bring himself back to life.
As much as I don’t want another undead crew, I would rather have that, than just an ordinary pirate with a magic sword and a zombie crew who did nothing.
Yeah, they should bring Ian Mcshane back as Blackbeard.
The real Blackbeard was a practitioner of black magic.
If memory serves, in a later scene Jack mentions Blackbeard getting his head cut off and his headless body circling the ship three times. The beheading is what history tells us happened, and the circling of the ship is a legend that came about afterward. Not to mention, I read somewhere that this movie takes place in 1750, over 30 years after Blackbeard's historical demise.

The biggest issue I had with this movie is that it should have been 3 movies. Black beard was a magnificent villain, but dear GOD they cramed WAY WAY too much into this one film for it to work. Had they fleshed it out in the same format as the first three films this would have been a fabulous trilogy. As it is.... a hodgepodge of broken dreams and rushed terrible acting pockmarked by moments of brilliance.
Not bad scene, but this just makes me miss Davy Jones as a villain.
Well the thing is, Davy Jones had alot of power, true but his personality wasn't swift and cool like black beard he was just always angry and annoying, I prefer blackbeard because of his cunning,swift,cool performance. Also I can't get over the squid face lol ew

Don't you love it how Blackbeard in every media is this terrifying monster that loves killing and feared by his men, but in real life Blackbeard was a fair man who only killed when he needed too and had the utmost loyalty of his men.

It's kinda interesting, in the previous movie they introduced Captain Teague and considering the almost similar names, maybe he was gonna be their version of Blackbeard, but here they give us Blackbeard and Captain Teague is just his own thing.
