As a new learner of UE (and 3d engines in general), I have come to love your channel. Thanks for being so prolific and thorough. Your channel is a necessary addition to the (often barebones) UE documentation.

A Niagara tutorial would be lovely...perhaps using a simple water jet as an example...

    Hey Mathew,
I'd like to put in a request for a video on soft references and when to use them.
    Thanks for everything you do.

@impostrophe agreed. Additionally, this man is a god. He has singlehandedly sped up my unreal project (and learning process) by 300%

Excellent tut. Wondering... Can we use Dataprep to scale the meshes upon import? I was surprised to see that Datasmith didnt have a scaling option for import.

I want to say that your videos are excellent. I just started with ue4 and whenever i have some problem boom... you probably made a video for that :D i would like to ask a question here, maybe you or some viewer could give me a hint, i tried ue forums but i wont get and answer in next 2 years at this rate. long story short, for some reason physical materials applied to a mesh made in unreal ( simple box, plane etc.) work just fine when i use them for different sounds while walking on them, they trigger the correct sound depending oh PM applied to them. problem is when i apply that same PM to a mesh that i made in 3ds max and imported it, it does nothing, just keeps playing default walk sound. Ofc im not looking for a detailed explanation or anything, just a push in a right direction would be great :D all i can think of is that there is some difference between imported mesh and unreal mesh but i cant figure out what it is. I apologize for a long comment, i understand this isnt a place for these kind of questions but im kinda getting desperate :D Thank you in any case, and keep up the great work :)

scratch that i found a problem :D some custom collisions were overlapping surface thats why correct sound couldnt be triggered. Cheers :)

Great video thanks for this. Dumb question but for some reason I'm missing the viewport. Been looking everywhere within the tabs and can't find an option to bring in the viewport.

I have this same problem. I can't see a preview in the dataprep asset editor. I've downloaded multiple versions of Unreal and I've clicked on "Reset Layout" in the "Window" dropdown. Nothing has worked yet.

Whenever i execute the data prep file to reimport the changes i made in my 3d model, i removes all my collision settings. What am i doing wrong?

Hi Mathew, I dont see my smoothing groups from 3dsmax working in UE4, as exported with datasmith any ideas?

Hi Mathew, is there a way to import .fbx files instead of Datasmith?

    • @a1ex3d
      @a1ex3d 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I wrote letter to UE. And they answer: The only .fbx files supported in 4.24 for DataPrep are for VRED and Deltagen. Also .fbx files will not supported for DataPrep in the next Engine version.

Warning: Datasmith import error: Scene translation failure. Abort import.

  • @Prez3D

Doesn't work. Using UEd 4.26, doing exactly what you show here and I get nothing in the window. I'm importing an entire folder of FBX files. I got a response from Epic rep stating that: At this time Dataprep can only import the files that are supported by Datasmith. This means that you can only import FBX files that were exported from Deltagen or Autodesk VRED. The list of files support by Datasmith can be found here: docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/...pes/index.html
It does not make any sense whatsoever, because FBX is a cross platform format so it shouldn't matter what software is used to generate it. One of the major features in Unreal is useless when using Maya. Very disappointing.
