I hear a lot of the Billie Holiday influence that forms her foundational jazz, and then she brings forth the 'sass' that Amy Winehouse was known for and also includes the 'from the gut' soul releases that Janis Joplin was famous for. Add in Angelina's own unbelievable controlled power releases & inflections and you hear something truly unique in musicality.
Besides Angelina’s vocals, what I noticed at the concert was how much the band and guests musicians were enjoying themselves. Everyone had a blast performing and it was great to see and hear. Well worth it.
Such a special evening, her show at the Alex, the release of Bad Valentine, my heart does all kinds of flip flops at the wonder of it all, at the wonder that is Angelina. Thank you family for getting her here, still, so full of love and talent.
The show was magic. She's best and on top of her game when she's relaxed and at home which she clearly was. You could see how she was drinking in the energy of the crowd and you could bask yourself in her beam energy washing over us. She's the only one ever making me cry at a concert. The band this time was great and Jimmy Z, well that guy was lit. The only annoyance was the sub par mix of the venue when they were belting. She propably learned some lessons from prior concerts about budgeting herself enough time to get her band up to snuff beforehand.
You saw the Hotel Café, in Hollywood, version. The Red splashes (Valentine) in this video gives added depth to the vocals. Now, seeing her from the second row in Glendale, is on a different level altogether❗️😇🌺
Great reaction. I agree that this could be a breakout hit. Of course it will probably need promotion and exposure for that to even have a chance to happen. Toby was on a local LA morning show recently where he promoted his Piano Diaries album. Victoria Justice was with him. She also performs on the album. At the end of the interview Toby plugged Bad Valentine and Angelina’s concert. It would be great if she could appear on these shows herself, She could always be introduced as a former AGT finalist. Maybe some people will remember her.
Obviously, she sounds freaking amazing. I think that visually, it's absolutely beautiful and she's mind-bogglingly stunning. I'm not sure about the vibe, though. I think that may be the only video from her that that doesn't do anything other than being beautiful. And I really just mean the VIDEO. Not how she looks or sounds or the cinematography, but the story telling from the video.

I just love this track. It is so great, her voice is hot as hell! 🔥🔥 She has such fantastic voice control and styles each phrase with such panache. I totally get what you are saying making the comparison with Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and I concur completely. I think when Angelina sings like this she has the best mix of an Amy Winehouse style and an Adele powerhouse delivery.
As you know I’m more rock/hard rock fan with the odd exception like Lynne Jackaman, but I can listen to Angelina sing 24/7 & not get bored. The math doesn’t work but to me she is Amy Winehouse reincarnated !!! Mad vocal skills.
I was at the concert and this song is even better live. It was my first concert and I had been told this but it’s true. She is 1 million times better live and she’s unbelievable over the TH-cam or video. Another thing that is so striking is how young she is, and you just can’t fathom the potential of this young Sweet sensitive girl. As angels our job is to make sure she knows she’s loved and protected but again I can’t emphasize enough that seeing her live is a whole Nother level and I’m honored I was able to do it once and I hope I get to see her again. Toby has done this with other singers he has worked with when he has directed the music videos. This was shot along Mulholland Drive, a 21-mile road in Los Angeles, California that runs along the Santa Monica Mountains and Hollywood Hills. It's located in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains. The song sounds so good! This definitely has a chance to be a big hit for her. I hope the cards fall in place for her and this takes off!

You notice the different cadence in the second verse but did you notice in the third verse she transposed the two lines. That drum beat really added a lot to this song...
Shes alone. Where? At a lovers lane overlooking the city. In what? A red (evil/bad color) Mustang (romantic car) and a convertible where and in the type of car couples used to make out in years gone by. It's an absolute perfect setting for the song with her alone. Also, the car is not pristene, crooked door, its hood is dented, damaged, like the relationship. Angelina oversees every detail in her videos. One simply needs to take the time to absorb her artistic decisions, along with the most unique voice alive. Thats my take! Great reaction.
Yes ...I agree. The initial club performance was sassy and felt like a shout of independence and freedom. This version feels like some remorse and sadness for what might have been inevitable, but is still regretted. Both are amazing, but definitely feel like they come from different places.

Good reaction. I'm not in love with the instrumentals taking such a strong position. Her voice should be on top. I think this was a mistake in mixing. It's a typical mix today but she's not typical. That's the point. Someone seems to be mixing that is not understanding the uniqueness of her vocals. I'm afraid this will be a problem, though I hope not.

With Angelina’s voice and the emotion she puts in her songs, too much in the video would only be a distraction… you can picture in your mind her looking at the dude waiting for her at the restaurant, her being mad and tossing the flowers on the ground, etc
I really really really hate to say this, but the pitch corrected her damn voice. I never thought she’d let Toby do that, it wasn’t much, but she was stuck to the lines way too often. I’m officially heartbroken. Please tell me I’m wrong. I have a vocal pitch monitor and I can tell almost immediately when something is pitch corrected, it has a different sound, and her voice has that sound in this recording. It didn’t sound like this in If I Were a Boy!
Her voice was good from the first performance. But she seemed very arrogant at that young age. It's the person that counts, not just the voice. If I don't have to see it, I think her voice is good. As I said, she failed as a person! Arrogant!
Love Angelina, don’t love this video. The car and the location seem irrelevant to the lyrics, and the faster tempo of this version doesn’t seem to fit the lyrics and the vibe of the song. The very frequent camera cuts sometimes aren’t in synch with her vocals. Angelina’s tone and expressions in the jazz club version sell the lyrics convincingly. I don’t see that here. Toby’s a great songwriter, but his concept and direction in this video miss the mark. That’s a shame because the song and Angelina’s voice are just terrific. Her past videos (Suspicious Minds, Love Don’t Let Me Go, Now I’m the Fool, etc.) fit so well with the song. This amazing song just doesn’t connect with the video for me. I greatly prefer the live jazz club version.
Video, to me, is a disappointment. She's a global star. Stop cheaping out. Give some visuals that are at least appropiate to the theme of the song. This has a subtitle, 'Mulholland Video', so maybe this is version one.
C'mon people, again she's about three layers deep under the drums and instruments - and who's being reflected in the paint of the car walking back and forth. I'm also sorry to say that although AJ can sing, she can't act, not even a little bit, lip syncing conceptual video is not her forte. Song is going nowhere.

You notice the different cadence in the second verse but did you notice in the third verse she transposed the two lines. That drum beat really added a lot to this song...

Shes alone. Where? At a lovers lane overlooking the city. In what? A red (evil/bad color) Mustang (romantic car) and a convertible where and in the type of car couples used to make out in years gone by. It's an absolute perfect setting for the song with her alone. Also, the car is not pristene, crooked door, its hood is dented, damaged, like the relationship. Angelina oversees every detail in her videos. One simply needs to take the time to absorb her artistic decisions, along with the most unique voice alive. Thats my take! Great reaction.

Yes ...I agree. The initial club performance was sassy and felt like a shout of independence and freedom. This version feels like some remorse and sadness for what might have been inevitable, but is still regretted. Both are amazing, but definitely feel like they come from different places.

Good reaction. I'm not in love with the instrumentals taking such a strong position. Her voice should be on top. I think this was a mistake in mixing. It's a typical mix today but she's not typical. That's the point. Someone seems to be mixing that is not understanding the uniqueness of her vocals. I'm afraid this will be a problem, though I hope not.

With Angelina’s voice and the emotion she puts in her songs, too much in the video would only be a distraction… you can picture in your mind her looking at the dude waiting for her at the restaurant, her being mad and tossing the flowers on the ground, etc
I really really really hate to say this, but the pitch corrected her damn voice. I never thought she’d let Toby do that, it wasn’t much, but she was stuck to the lines way too often. I’m officially heartbroken. Please tell me I’m wrong. I have a vocal pitch monitor and I can tell almost immediately when something is pitch corrected, it has a different sound, and her voice has that sound in this recording. It didn’t sound like this in If I Were a Boy!

Love Angelina, don’t love this video. The car and the location seem irrelevant to the lyrics, and the faster tempo of this version doesn’t seem to fit the lyrics and the vibe of the song. The very frequent camera cuts sometimes aren’t in synch with her vocals. Angelina’s tone and expressions in the jazz club version sell the lyrics convincingly. I don’t see that here.
Toby’s a great songwriter, but his concept and direction in this video miss the mark. That’s a shame because the song and Angelina’s voice are just terrific. Her past videos (Suspicious Minds, Love Don’t Let Me Go, Now I’m the Fool, etc.) fit so well with the song. This amazing song just doesn’t connect with the video for me. I greatly prefer the live jazz club version.
I think the Guy who she's talking about was a car lover and she wants to let him know she can get any cars she wants and the beat let's dance
Video, to me, is a disappointment. She's a global star. Stop cheaping out. Give some visuals that are at least appropiate to the theme of the song. This has a subtitle, 'Mulholland Video', so maybe this is version one.
Her uncle should not direct her videos.....they are crap
C'mon people, again she's about three layers deep under the drums and instruments - and who's being reflected in the paint of the car walking back and forth. I'm also sorry to say that although AJ can sing, she can't act, not even a little bit, lip syncing conceptual video is not her forte. Song is going nowhere.
