it's also useful to turn down render and simulation distance when afking so mobs spawn in chunks closer to you. if the area around the farm is lit up, you'll get more spawns inside the farm.
@gassug2 it depends where you build. My base is in a mountain and I built my mob farm just far enough I can afk on it without adjusting anything. You only need to eliminate spawning within a 120 block radius sphere around the player in your afk spot

Building it on the land will drasticly decrease your spawn rates. But if you build it in like an ocean and then afk like 120 blocks above it it will make it acctualy pretty damn good.
Note to anyone else building this: This is also a stackable design if you replace the slabs on the roof with whole blocks and make the next level on top of that, it can be stacked as high as you want.

To all the people saying underground or sky. Wrong, the higher a platform is less mobs spawn. Why not underground? Because there will be caves and so it's recommend to have a perimeter. The best alternative is to build it in a deep ocean so there are less caves, it's down to sea level and you afk it high up so caves aren't loaded

If you are on bedrock use fence posts instead of carpet. For some reason the spiders will still spawn on the carpet, but not the fence posts. Edit: on bedrock I also would not recommend building this creeper farm as for some people it doesn’t even work with the fences.
I love that this is the most simple creeper farm and it works well for java. While in bedrock, if you want to make the "simplest" creeper farm youre gonna need thousand of trapdoors, thousand of button, thousand of leaves.
When keeping it this small, which is great for an early farm that feeds only one player, I might suggest replacing the magma with campfires. It kills the creepers faster so more can spawn. Replace with soul campfires after hitting the nether for even better rates. You can also put the hoppers directly below the campfires.
Edit 2: I rebuilt my farm and rates are much much lower than pre update. Edit: it was patched last night. Should be good to go now. Just an FYI, this does not work currently on bedrock as of today. Spiders are ignoring their 3x3 spawn and are spawning on 1x1 blocks again. Gotta wait til they patch it.

My cat tried to eat a Amazon package when I was watching this short EDIT: I just realized people may think this is made as a joke, just saying it that my cat ACTUALLY tried to eat an Amazon parcel when I was watching this short.
Build this over a ocean instead 90 blocks up from the water surface and 4 layers of spawn space put the magma block right in the middle falling area and just let the water carry items away through a 1 block gap from there the creeper die at. This solves 2 issues the longer a mob is in a 36x36 are they prevent other mobs from spawning around them so killing them quickly is better than moving them around extending the period it’s preventing new spawns. Secondly it avoid the issue of having to spawn proof possible caves that could affect rates as well or cause spawn outside the farm as in the clip he never spawn proofs the area around the farm with a light source and seeing how different render distances people use this can cause spawn issues outside the farm radios inside caves as I said before making the farm super slow.
Somehow I've missed the whole "creepers are shorter than zombies and skeletons" bit. Now creeper farms make sense. I've never really had a need for pure creeper farm so I haven't looked it up before. The more you know.

A seemingly efficient creeper farm, and not a single redstone component has been placed. This is why Minecraft is awesome.

Start this build with a 100 blocks or scaffolds tower, build the complete farm on top of that.. prevents most spawns nearby.. and all spawns below ground.

I have a idea to improve it, while I don't know why you have to afk in the sky. If you build 22 blocks up and build the farm off of it you can have them drop to 1 hp and not have to climb a bunch of scaffolding. Saving climbing and killing time. plz respond and tell me why going afk in the sky is necessary (I only play java but have played bedrock before)
it is because mobs spawning takes place at certain levels just like if you were above the surface and mobs were in caves below it just shifts upward but nice recommendations you made!
You have to afk in the sky because if you don’t, then mobs will spawn in the caves below and take up mob cap. There’s a big sphere around you, and you only want that creeper farm to be in your sphere otherwise the rates will be terrible

Creeper farms also has minecart powerd rail dropper or dispenser to make the mincart move forever you must use slime to push the minecart then your done!
I modified mine to drop music discs but I’ll tell you the amount of times the skeleton died because of an oversight allowing a creeper to explode. Sheesh I on’t wanna say.

The reason you have to build up is because if you were in the ground mobs would spawn in caves below killing rate also mobs don't spawn if you are 24 blocks or closer
The only reason to build a creeper farm is for gunpowder but then if u need gunpowder there's better farms that tbh I have 0 idea how they work but the amount of gunpowder produced is insane

I have noticed a problem with this Minecraft farm. The problem is the cats could walk into the hole. how I like to solve it is by placing fences throughout each side and taming the cats and then leashing them to the fences with leads it’s recommended to place the fences closer to the corners farther from the hole and the reason why this works is because the leads will stop the cats from going any further and falling into the hole

You can also place slabs or till the dirt on all surrounding blocks to further concentrate creeper spawning, thus making the farm more productive.
I mean, you could build it sky high and let the creepers fall to their deaths too.
I recommend building your farms over water or place down a bunch of leaves for a better spawn rates👍🏼

Worked. Java 1.20.4. Occasional spider spawn but nothing I really care about too much. Left it running for an hour and got 5 stacks of gunpowder.

you're meant to tame the cats and sit them down
if you use a trident killer instead, holding a looting sword out while you farm will give you extra loot
its for java not bedrock so that doesnt work.
Note: Creepers may sometimes spawn outside farm in large numbers, making it impossible to use safely
