In 'Study in Red' the original story by Arthur Conan Doyle the word was in fact 'Rache' which is German for 'revenge' but the reason behind it was completely different. They do continuous references to the the original works throughout the show. You don't need to have read the original works or watch some of the other adaptions first to enjoy this show though - can help and they're fun to look out for and spot but it's still not really necessary.
(captions on) OMG! OMG! IT'S FINALlY HAPPENING!!!! THANK YOU FOR GOING THROUGH THIS EVEN THOUGH THE BEEB ALWAYS MAKES IT HARDER FOR YOU TO MAKE THIS CONTENT BUT YOU'RE DOING IT ANYWAY!!!! (captions off)
Well, this is a pleasant surprise. Love this show. This show is written by the Doctor Who showrunner from Series 5 - Series 10, Steven Moffat & other Doctor Who writers Mark Gatiss & Steve Thompson.
@@AndresElRey FYI, the guys who wrote this series are OBSCENE Sherlock Holmes nerds and there are Easter eggs EVERYWHERE in these episodes, most of which are very clever and get at least a knowing chuckle out of die hard Holmes readers. Just about any proper name is a reference to something, they have SO much fun with that. BUT, you don't have to be aware of any of it to enjoy the show. Comments are liable to be full of references to all these side jokes and things but don't even sweat it. Those are there for us die-hards. :)
One example of a meta-Holmes nerd bit they had fun with was Watson's injury. He carried a cane so presumably he was shot in the leg, right? But then toward the end Watson says he was shot in the shoulder, and his leg injury was psychosomatic. All cool, but in the original stories Arthur Conan Doyle didn't keep close track of such details so in one story he mentioned Watson's old leg injury and in another one written years later he mentions Watson's old shoulder injury. The reality was that Conan Doyle didn't really care about the Sherlock Holmes stories and just wrote them to get his demanding publisher to quit bugging him about them after a while but for "Sherlock" the guys leaned into the inconsistency and had fun with it, as you saw.
Thank you for doing this shiw. I’ve enjoyed many of you Dr Who reactions in the past….. I’m looking forward to enjoying you enjoying the boys. Such an amazing show.
