  • This video is of a Hindu Royal Cremation Ceremony in Ubud, Bali on February 13, 2017. The ceremony was for the sister-in-law of the King of Ubud.
It involved a 1 km procession with thousands of people down the main street of Ubud, from the palace to the main temple. Many local villagers took turns carrying the Cremation Bull along with a giant tower which held the body - each weighing 2-3 tons. Once at the temple the body was transferred from the tower to the bull, then set on fire.
Though it was a funeral procession, the Hindus consider it a joyous occasion, filled with dancing, chanting, and drumming. I feel fortunate to have witnessed this amazing cultural event.
Back in December 2016 my wife and I quit our jobs, packed everything up, and hit the road for 5 1/2 months. We travelled to New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. This was Day 74 of our journey.

cindy maulden, What exactly do you find terrible? Balinese cultural practices? Or perhaps you just don’t like my video editing.
