Hard charger was Russell Fredericks going 27th to 9th (was as high as 5th).
Fast lap set by Andrew Whitston on his own hard charge to get back up front.
Results went official with no changes from provisional.

No way you can win by that much in that class with a broken shock. Without cheating.

There’s a small argument in the Vee world that you can run steering dampers for front shocks on a Vee and still be fast. Vir is relatively smooth and with the wet we were staying off the curbs so the shocks probably weren’t doing much anyways. Brian has put a lot of effort into building one of the nicest cars in the class. He certainly isn’t cheating though his car was in boxes after tech inspection including the engine in multiple pieces.

Brian is no cheater. He won that race because of years and years of hard work and dedication to his craft. He built up a big margin prior to the shock breaking and was then able to manage the gap. And as Trevor said, his car was in boxes after tech was done, and I will vouch for the person doing tech any day

I agree with Trevor and Ryan. The same was said in the 2000's when Brad Stout could gap a top FV field and when Michael Varacins did it in the 2010's. It happens when a driver not only has a very well prepped machine, but uses it to put on a driving clinic, fast and no mistakes.
Brian is a very good driver and has been in contention for 5 years now. His car is top of the line, after maxing out the potential in a Citation, he built his own car and it was at the front. He developed it further this year and it passed tech at the Runoffs ( a little more test time on it before the Runoffs may have caught the shock failure before the big race?). 2 of the other main contenders went off track when Brian was putting in fastest laps cleanly.
If track conditions were better, I think we would have seen a very different race and that shock may have cost him a top 5 finish. But he had already built up a several second gap as a cushion and made no mistakes. Front shocks aren't that big difference maker from what I've found, the 2020 Runoffs winner had one mounted upside down, he didn't notice for a while and didn't change it when he did notice.
