In hundreds of videos I've watched no one gets closer of perfection than Unidan and other Australians ingeniers, they really know how to optimise space, put smart thinking and heavy duty components in their expedition vehicles. One day will like to buy something from them. Awesome job guy, just perfection. 👍😉
the spare wheel slide out is great . and the shower head there so you can wash down the wheel before you stow the dirty one too. lol mine has a shower head next to the door so you can wash mud off your boots before getting inside.
Dammit! Now, if I ever do get the Mog of my dreams, I'll have to ship it half way around the world to Australia so I can get all of this cool kit for it! That is truly some slick gear! I imagine it's pricey, too, but looks to be worth it. Just paint the slide-on camper to match the Mog and it'll look truly custom. Gotta go buy another lottery ticket now.
Wow that is a lovely setup - great use of space I’m interested in the tripod jacks at the back for more stability for my camper - where are they from? 👍🇬🇧
hey mate i love the work you guys do, i aim to get myself one of these bad boys a bit later in life. I reckon you should do a video with one of your expedition uni's up against a regular 4x4. give some perspective of what these can really do, and how far you can take them.
Very cool! I like that you can separate the container from the car so easy! And the design is awesome. For me, a car in this class should have at least 300 Liters of fresh water. Because we can stay 3-4 weeks offgrid with our 300 Liters and thats just great! But anyway nice job and cool video! Thanks guys!! 👍😀
Will the unidan container fit on the back of a dual cab unimog? What are the pros and cons, of a dual axle vs single unimog for off roading? Do the dual axle unimog have a longer wheel base, than the single axle unimog?
Hi Bob Both variants have the same wheel base 3850mm.. the single cab can legally have a 4600mm body and the dual cab a 3850mm body. We do have a few designs to fit on a dual cab.
Hi Unidan. With the dual cab option, (going on your answer) the back pod is 75cm shorter than the pod with the single cab. What part of the pod goes missing? What gets shaved off? I hope that it isn't the dinette? That makes up the 75cm shortfall? If the dinette is saved, when it is turned into a bed. What are it's dimensions? When you were taking the pod off the back of the truck, there seems to be two hydraulic lifts, on either sides of the front of the pod. On the back, it looked like there were 2 axle stands supporting the back of the pod. Is it possible to get 2 hydraulic stands at the back of the pod, as well? Your product is amazing. I've looked at a lot of converted Unimogs, pictures and videos on TH-cam. And your build, is by far the best.
Builder Bob the only changes are the queen bed turns into a double and the dinette drops from a 4 seater to a 2 seater. Re the legs. The rear legs are built into the camper, however as they are recessed into the camper they need the fold up tripods to get the required height. The front legs get stored into the head board while driving. Thank you for your kind words. We are always striving for perfection. Cheers Dan
Hi Dan. When the dinette goes from a 4 seater to a 2 seater, on the crew cab pod. Does the 2 seater dinette, still fold down to make a single bed? If it does, what are the dimensions of the single bed?
@Unidan, if you convert a Mog to a camper as a permanent conversion as opposed to a slide on camper, does it result in a cheaper motor vehicle registration cost?
Hi Chris In AU rego costs for a motor home is significantly less than a truck. In Qld it’s half the cost. I’m not 100% on the discounts in other states.
If someone purchases an ex-army unit, can this system (& upgrades) be added to the unit or do you need a recent model mog for the upgrades? Fantastic work mate, watching your vids makes me want a mog sooner!
Thank you! You cover a lot of territory without a single "...ah..." or "...um..." or "...can we edit that out...". This video is a 'how-to' for other TH-camrs. Great presentation of an outstanding product. Thumbs UP. . . Note: To the usual video wanna-bes: Edit, rehearse, work from a script. Do not waste my time.
im going to get an old ex military 1300l and live like a tramp under the military canvas with my dog with basic comforts a day bed split charge system and a porta potti im on a budget !!!
Impressive Mog expedition vehicle. However, an essential piece of information is missing in the video and on the Unidan website - total weight. The Unimog ist not a heavy load vehicle. Ideally, it should be below 7.5 tons for best off-road capability. Once total weight is increased above 9 tons, off-road capabilities suffer and a MAN TGM setup becomes more suitable. These vehicles gain on luxury but loose on off-road capability.
I seen one of these in Kirra today they are huge makes one think in a bog or tight situations they are just to big unless your young fit rich and fearless they are just to much truck for most but saying that they are fucking awesome gangsta 4wd mega trucks
Nope I meet few of your requirements and have been amazed how nimble the Unimog is as a camper (first was U1250 Dokka, now building Zeppelin FM2 on U2150 single cab). Only defeat was trying to fit snow chains; gave up but easily conquered a blizzard. Costs no more than a normal low grade motorhome if tacked on a sensible budget.
Mine has the bed above the cabin, alway's ready, and has a moving up solid roof to stay close to the hight of 3.5 m , a 1000 W and a 6500 W generator, 5 x 100 W solar panels with 30 W 12 V regulator, two 250 Ah battery's, custom made free-wheels * in the front for saving feul and hp on normal roads, an extra oil cooler, a big watercooler for the engine with 4 ventilators on a thermostat , again to save hp against the original belts driven that turns all the time. The spare wheel is on the back with a winch system above the place for a ( dirt, sand ) motorbike and two foulding bycicles. The entrence door is in two parts, the botom part has the folding staircase on it. To let the cabin tilt as original to work under it, the living cell tilt backwards hydraulicly ( as a dump truck ). There is a passage between the living cell and the cabin, when leaving a place is needed without going outside. The windows have double safety glass as the front window of cars and trucks and alu frames with alu locks. The windows of the cabin have inside a plate to avoid smashed windows by returning to the the truck and the locks have steel pins that go's in the doorframes by distance controle. ( * it's the only Unimog with freewheels in the world ) The front axle reductions have a visual oil level and a system the keep the oil where it belongs.
You have a small camper and I can't understand why you need 2 spare wheels. Why to lose so much space? The only thing you need is 1 wheel and air pressure and fillers to fix the wheels on the go. Please comment
Finally. A strictly utilitarian camper that I would want. No bells no whistles no weight

Big like
Air con ? , truck and or the camper ? , access to the camper while it’s still on the truck ?
no access to camper from the truck with any model that features a removable camper.
Aircon in both the truck and the camper. There is no crawl-through for this truck as the body is removable

In AU when we go remote we can be 1000kms to the nearest town, fair chance that town won’t have a spare tyre to suit a unimog.
In Australian desert is is easy to spear the sidewall of a tyre.
If the sidewall has a big hole you cant plug it.
