I can’t think of the general ethos of Gusteau without thinking about Anthony Bourdain. He never said “anyone can cook” explicitly the way Gusteau does, but he did more than enough to show it. This film was one of my favorite growing up, and Bourdain was one of the people I looked up to most in the world after I grew up a little more. Now, revisiting this movie as an adult, I see a direct line of connection between his philosophy and the philosophy of Ratatouille. RIP king

  • @williamclarke3162

-Ratatouille is definitely one of my top Pixar films. I think out of all the main characters they've had, the Remy character speaks to me the most (I sorta equate his love of cooking to my love of films)
-I'm with you in how animation can transform things that are fearful in real life and make them more approachable.
-Shout out to the voice acting in this, Wall-E, Up and Incredibles in these films. Like the voice acting is great in all the Pixar films but those four I mention really didn't have the huge name stars.
-Brad Bird is one of the MVPs of the film. I'll say it again that this man deserves more credit as a screenwriter.

I love this movie for helping people come around to the idea that rats are cute. Domestic rats and mice actually great starter pets! They're easy to feed, house, and clean up after. And you can teach them cool tricks! You can even let them loose at home if they trust you enough. And they love being tickled! 😊

The most fascinating thing about this story is how it treats/deals with its protagonists.
Gusteau reminds me of super hip celebrity chef Matty Matheson AKA Neil Geoff Fak of THE BEAR fame. That show is a mind virus- As soon as any kitchen commotion montage started- I couldn't help but start hearing Carmy yelling about how terrible it is.

Also, yotally agree about animation being a soft form of flooding for helping us begin to tolerate fears and phobias. For example, this film helped me face my fear of criticism and failure! So glad you watched this~ Just wanted to pop in as someone who has been keeping domesticated pet rats for over 4 years now - keep in mind that wild rats and domesticated rats are different! Humankind has been domesticating rats for centuries at this point, and they are extremely clean & sociable! You wouldn't want to keep a wild rat unless you were an animal rescue worker, but that goes for any animal species - none of us would mess with feral cats. The only downside about pet rats is they only live about 2 years on average. 💔 I love Ratatouille so much, I'm glad it's helped people be a little less afraid of these animals that live alongside us humans.
