    Having been in the Coast Guard myself, I like the Safe Boat style law enforcement vibe of this boat. Everything about this boat screams the highest design and build qualities.

      Except the flir camera. It takes a special kind of "genius" to paint a heat sensitive camera black...

    • @n0madtv
      @n0madtv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@campandcook3118 Even if the camera is radiating 'extra' heat, it's not coming into the lens the way you are imagining. It does not matter what color you paint a flir camera, or if you wrap it in aluminum foil, or whatever tf you want to do it... As long as the lens is not obstructed, it's fine. What you don't want, is any surfaces (like a white base or interior around the lens) reflecting light into the lens.

    • @campandcook3118
      @campandcook3118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@n0madtv I've worked extensively with flir camera integrations, most of the time to check mechanical and electrical parts during tests and regular checks during operation.
      Your entirely wrong, the camera sensor inside the camera needs to be as cold as possible. The warmer the sensor, the less sensitivity and contrast you will have.
      Try it yourself, light a candle and see from how far your hand feels the heat source. Then stick it in ice water, dry it, then hold it slowly closer to the candle. A cold hand feels the difference between room temperature and radiation from the candle farther away.
      Sensors are either cooled by a fan, liquid or passive. With active cooling, you can see that the contrast increases with lower sensor temperature. A black housing in direct sunlight can reach temperatures over 100C - that's why most maritime housings are reflective white.

    • @n0madtv
      @n0madtv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@campandcook3118 Right, because the temperature of the sealed internals can get that hot. It has absolutely nothing to do with the color of the external housing (in most cases). A camera like this will have solid state cooling inside with the housing thermally insulated up to a specified temperature.
      Marine camera's are usually white because literally everything marine is usually white. ALL thermal cameras have non-reflective black material around the lens and any surface that might reflect towards the lens, even when designed for daylight use. Any form of insulation is more than enough to negate color related absorption. They are also primarily intended for use at night and in foggy/low-vis conditions. Running a thermal like this during the day is pointless unless you're scanning for a Man Overboard or something of that nature.
      If it's not a cheap housing, there is no reason it can't be any color you want. A black housing will absorb infrared and radiate the heat back out! It does not conduct heat into the internals.

      There are several things to know about boats.
      1) They are expensive
      2) The 2 happiest days in a boaters life is the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
      3) They can and do sink.

    I have one of the earliest foam collered Aluminum hulls like this .
    It was at Seattle Boat in Kingdome with a puny OB 35 Jet motor, I opted for a prop .
    Used to be the only one on Puget Sound , only a 15’ but have been to Swiftsure Bank from Neah Bay and also blasted down to LaPush on same day for a total of 135 miles on trip meter .
    Used to fish Lingcod and Blackmouth salmon with Bill Hanson or alongside at Southworth , Manchester and Blake Island in the 90’s .
    Still have it in storage, almost time to get back out there .
    I admit to multi engine envy though.
    Only a single 120 hp V-4 on the 15’ center console prototype I help build when new .
    Nice lines on this boat , the ability to stand everywhere makes the stability bolted to sides make sense.
    Mine is 30 + years old and looks pretty much like when I towed it home from work.

      Supplies from Canada opens up their bidding for Cdn. Coast Guard contracts and Fisheries Dept. It's smart. Plus there are govt. export grants from your USA side and more grants from the Cdn. side. The Zodiac builder in Victoria just had my brother drive an inflatable down to LA to the US Coast Guard and the Port of LA. Smart business, exp. now.

He just leaves his explosive bowel movements for somebody else. Like that’s what entitled people do. Believe you me if I even dribble in a public restroom I will take the time to clean up after myself. When did people decide that if I have a couple bucks I can leave behind such disgusting disgraceful excrement for somebody else to clean up.😢

    I would paint mine a more festive color, Miami blue on the hull and white on the cabin top, and opt for solar panels instead of skylights. I live on the Hudson, I have no desire to do 30 knots, but it would be a good top speed, so I’d go for electric outboards. I prefer the quiet anyhow 😂. I would rather have the cabin extend to the bow and not have the throne under my pillow, but in a separate space behind a bulkhead, maybe a set of drawers opposite with a fiddled grippy top to set things down on. This would be one hell of a fun river boat, no doubt!
