  • Here is a clear, up close demonstration of tying a midshipman's hitch, or also known as a rolling hitch, but while under tension.
This is incredibly useful when tying objects down, or maintaining a precise amount of control on an object when it is moving around on deck.

By far, the best showing of how to make this knot. Thanks, from this farmer.

Great tutorial. More knot videos in future please... There are so few on YT that describe practical knots instead of just demoing an obscure knot in an idealised situation. Seeing this tied under tension teaches me so much more about this knot and where I might want to use it.

Hey thanks VS...I'm working on a few more. I agree, it drives me NUTS when people show the knot but not actually how to use it in a real life situation. And I get why they do it...don't want to overwhelm folks...but I feel like you can do both at the same time with a little forethought. Anywho...glad it helped!

Nice. I appreciate no messing around and good, simple camera work. I love this knot and appreciate the practical connection to a load situation.

Thanks George! Yeah pretty much every single time I've ever used this knot it's been under some kind of load...so makes sense. Glad you liked it!
