Helmets are designed for a lot of use cases where they are really useful. The scenario that you have chosen doesn't fall in the criteria. This doesn't mean helmets are useless.
Bike ride karte wakt agar bike se gir jaaye aur side se jaane wali gari k niche sir aa jaaye too bhai bachne ka koi chance nahi hai.. Woo app 2000 ka helmet lo yaa fir 20000 ka... Helmets are useful but it could not give you guarantee of your life.
When a rider falls on the ground, the head comes under a wheel sideways. The helmets are also designed keeping this in mind. I reckon the result might be somewhat different if the helmets are placed sideways rather than upright under the wheels.
That's why knowledge is important. ISI helmet par test kar raha ho jo ek bhi safety standard pass nahi kar payega. Snell, FIM, ECE is the best safety standard in the world.
