    Is you Honda 70 not getting spark to the engine? Watch the diagnostic procedures on how to track down the cause of your small Honda Mini Trail not getting fire to the engine.
    rodsshop.org/g...
    In most cases, the points and or condenser are the culprit to why these small engines lose spark to the spark plug. However, other components such as the spark plug, spark plug wire, spark plug ignition coil to the magneto coil itself can go bad without notice.
    In this video, you will see how I diagnose each electrical ignition part to see if it is good or bad. You will also see how to adjust the points and how to install a condenser. I also use and mention various tools that I used to help fix this Honda CT70. Please see below for a list of tools.
    Magneto Flywheel Puller: amzn.to/3rOUzVW
    Multi-Tester: amzn.to/3rhklSB
    Ignition Feeler Gauge: amzn.to/2YCGMoO
    Soldering Iron: amzn.to/3rd73X7
    Inline Spark Tester: amzn.to/3ajQpPQ
    Electronic Silver Solder: amzn.to/3jMV1kK

    Hi Rod what a great video. I just came across it & have worked on these bikes for over 25 years you describe in detail the perfect maintenance procedures. No spark is a very common issue. Thanks again

    Checked everything so I did a continuity test of the points and found although they looked good they would not make connection when closed so I filed the contact area with a very small file and tried continuity again and bingo they were making connection. I hooked everything back up and I got strong spark!

      Filing the contacts on a set of pints will work, but know this. Once you file them, they will not last long. They have a coating that resist the heat and the electrical arc, once you file them, be looking to replace them sooner than later.

      Makes sense. I just commented so others had another possibility to try if they have no spark.

      @@JTSCUSTOMS No, this is a good tip for getting it to run, I just wanted to provide you with that info in case you didn't know but thanks for adding the tip.

    Hello, to solder the capacitor you can use a 100w gun. thanks

    I have a 1972 CT 70 4 speed. The only way I can get it to start is to roll it down a hill. Seems to start and run fine then. Any idea what to check? I’d like to be able to kick start it. Also in your video you set the flywheel mark to T. Was that in the compression stroke?

      Sounds like the points are closed up. They set at .0014 or they could be burned. Check out your points. If that is OK, you may be needing a condenser. Although, with those condensers, they usually work or don't.

      I am shade tree! Now If you have to roll start. I'd check the compression. 2 different qauds both roll start . One had a valve bent and not seating properly. The other had bad rings. They were broken into small pieces . One small piece was turned and scored the cylinder. That cylinder was discontinued. My point is . Don't just jump to electrical as the problem. Your starting system might be good . Your engine might be begging for help. Great video !! It's going to help me tomorrow! I just bought an atc 70. No spark, I had heard they had points. I haven't messed with points since I was a teen.
      Glad I found this video.
      GREAT LUCK TO YOU ALL !

    So I have spark I believe leaving the points at the bullet connector feeding the coil. Enough to light a test light anyway. But nothing leaving the coil , purchased a new 6v coil and still nothing. With it mounted on the bike I tried tapping 6v to it and it won’t spark a grounded plug . It does try to spark at my leads where I’m tapping power to it though. Maybe bad wiring somewhere? Needing advice please and thank you.

    If you had gotten voltage on the black wire when kicking it, would that mean the condenser is good? Or can you still get voltage (test probe to flicker) and still have a bad condenser? I have a test light that flickers showing voltage coming out of stator black wire and no spark. Ignition coil test good too. Thanks!

    • @RodsshopOrg
      @RodsshopOrg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can still get voltage on the black wire even if the condenser is bad.

    • @KevinPatz-pn2gs
      @KevinPatz-pn2gs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RodsshopOrg Thank you for clarifying this, as I've seen videos saying, if you get Voltage from stator, then you have a problem elsewhere and I've wasted time doing that with their false information. Excellent video by the way, the most thorough and informative I've seen. I think I will try soldering my condenser before I replace it, this things been a devil!

    I have a 2003 honda xr70r dirt bike. Fuel is good compression is good. New carburetor oem parts. I get spark at the spark plug. I tested the ci something box and it's good. But when I tested the stator by ohms it didn't read nothing. One led on one wire and the other to the other wire coming from stator. Will not start. Kill switch is good key is on. As I kick start it it makes a small misfire noise. Small amount of fuel coming out the carburetor over flow but not much. Sparkplug is new and so is the cable boot. Please help

      I can try to help but I need just a little info from you. I am assuming this is a 3 speed automatic clutch? If so, do you recall it becoming harder and harder to shift right before it got stuck in 3rd?
      I would suggest contacting me through my site so we can converse better on this. Sounds like you may need to try adjusting the clutch but lets talk about it here: rodsshop.org/contact/

    On mine if you hold the plug you will get shocked but cannot see any spark jumping in the spark plug. All parts are new except stator coils and condenser. Thanks

    • @RodsshopOrg
      @RodsshopOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This sounds like a fractured porcelain spark plug. Have you tried another plug? If the porcelain is cracked, it may not show a spark but ground itself out. If you are holding it, it will use you for ground. Sounds like everything is working up to the plug since you are getting shocked, try another plug. If you need help, contact me through my site. rodsshop.org/contact/
