    The 30 mm T/S has a mount on the lens to help prevent parallax. I hope you pre-ordered this lens! Can't wait for your review of it. Thank you for sharing your information on printers and camera gear!

      Thanks - I'm waiting for Fuji to send me one to test ;-) [and the 110 at some point]
      The side clamp is a useful adjunct for stitching - I'll be covering all the uses of it in detail.
      Unfortunately, not a chance of me actually being able to afford one in current circumstances though...

    Im really looking forward to the the results of this lens. I would most likely not use its for architecture shooting, but landscape photography. Having a tilt-shift would render the need to do focus stacking obsolete for me. And there’s an idea I would like.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah - tilt does not render focus stacking obsolete in most cases.
      Tilt does not work like that... I've come across many people buying tilt/shift lenses with a notion of it giving more depth of field and finding that except under very specific circumstances it does nothing of the sort. Shift is generally of far more use with wider lenses, unless you like trees leaning inwards when the horizon is towards the bottom of the frame.
      On a positive side, this mis-understanding does ensure a steady stream of lenses in the used market when people discover what tilt really does :-)

      @@KeithCooper Thanks a lot for the correction. Funny, I think I always that part wrong since I never actually owned a T/S lens. I have just been admiring the work of a few landscape photographers shooting exclusively with T/S lenses. I suppose T/S still could do wonders when you have the ability to more creatively have control of the focal plane. And the ability to switch panoramas is obviously another advantage (my current Fuji 20-35/4 has quite nasty distortion at times).

      For myself, using shift is the real key.
      I have an entire tilt/shift playlist exploring just what you can do.
      It's no coincidence that even when writing the tilt/shift book, I was unable to find a clear [teaching] example of where use of tilt in a landscape photo made a significant difference, other than for 'artistic' reasons [miniature world type stuff]

    Dare I say that these new Tilt Shift lenses ended up being a bit cheaper than I was expecting. Of course £3.5K to £4K isnt cheap for any lens but considering the complexity and the fact that these really are specialty lenses likely made in very small volumes its not too bad. Still scary money to spend for sure though 😮

    I have seen a suggestion Canon is working on TS-R lenses with AF. TS-R I have no doubt will happen The AF would certainly be a good trick. I guess they will make TS-E lenses look cheap.

    • @KeithCooper

    Thanks Keith. I would be interested in knowing how the 30mm T/S stacks up against the Laowa 20mm Shift Lens. I hope you are able to cover it in your review. Though I do not use T/S lenses for my kind of photography I would like to get one to explore architecture and related genres.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I can get a Laowa 20 for G mount I'll try it. However it is the same lens I've already reviewed [albeit on RF mount]
      Just from what I know, the 30mm will walk all over the 20mm from an out and out quality POV
      But if you need 20mm, you take the hit... ;-)
      I don't do much in the way of 'formal' comparisons in my lens testing, but will compare the 30 with my TS-E24, as well as the Fuji 30

    I’m very interested to hear your thoughts when you test these! Personally I’m very happy with the Canon TS-E 90mm L ii macro on the GFX 100s so I personally can’t see why I need the new 110. I also think I would still pick up a GFX 100s over the new 100 ii as envision little real life benefit for my purposes with the new model. Enjoy your weekend.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks - I'm told I should get to see something by mid October.
      I still use the original TS-E90 on the GFX100S - as long as you're not using tilt at f/2.8 it's still quite good.
      I'd note that the 110 is no more a true macro lens than the TS-E50/90/135 ;-)

    Does these 2 TS lenses support AF? They do not look like having mechanically linked focus ring. If they are fly-by-wire, adding AF makes sense. For daily non tilt non macro usage, AF makes life a lot easier on 102MP sensor.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      No - there are no AF tilt/shift lenses produced by any company at the moment.
      These are purely mechanical focus as far as I know
      Note too, that even with 10º of tilt and the word 'macro' in the name, tilt is rarely of as much use as people expect, at close distances.
      With an MFD of 0.43m and max magnification of 0.5x, Fuji marketing are being generous in calling it 'Macro' ... then again, Canon do the same thing with the 50/90/135mm TS-E lenses
      The [3 newest] Canon lenses are some of the best I've tested
      The 90/2.8 in particular [$2200]

    Hi Keith, I have your book and look forward to hearing your impressions of these two new lenses. One day you'll have to include them in a second edition ,-)
    A side issue, if you don't mind and perhaps an idea for a next video: why do you use the MP-E 65mm on the 5Ds and not on the GFX100s? For full compatibility, no vignetting, etc.?
    Perhaps because you simply don't have an EF>G adapter?
    Perhaps you think that in the 1-5x macro domain there are no advantages to using the GFX?
    Please tell me.
    Thank you 🙂 very much

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have a look at a video once I've finished the shots. I've permission to use them if I get anything 'nice' rather than 'just' technical ;-)
      The main reason is that Helicon Focus and Helicon Remote work flawlessly with the stackshot, tethered camera control and the 5DS raw files. I know the precise settings for stacking and lighting too. There may be some advantages with the GFX sensor, but not if I can't control the camera and stacking in a very precise way.
      This is a paying job, not me just playing around ;-) :-) I do need to test the MP-E65 on the GFX, but not on paid work ...

      @@KeithCooper I still upgrade the last 3 lenses to 45 Mpix resolutions until next summer. Then I will have a look if I can afford to get a 2nd hand GFS 100s for woodland in a few years. The problem is I only can afford a small set of lenses to it so I will take notes on what focal length and lenses I use the most until then, The TS will probably be a 30mmF5.6. I seldom use the 85mmF2.8 PC lens but I used the 45mmF2.8 PC most on my APS-C DSLR so I need to check if I use the 85mmF2.8 PC more on the D850 DSLR... I will get adapters so I can use my old Mamya7 lenses and HB 503CW lenses...

    If you take horizontal pictures from this GF30mm t/s by shifting from left to right and stitch them together, photo you get will have angle of view equivalent to what wide angle lens ?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      With 15mm of shift you will get [if I remember my trig] a total horizontal FOV of ~102º
      this is roughly equivalent to a 15mm lens on 35mm

  • @amaitra
    @amaitra ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does this also allow mounting the lens on the head - so the shift etc is with a static sensor? The way it should be.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah - there is no 'should' about it! ;-)
      The geometry means that you can either move either the lens or the camera, depending on mounting [or both with the right mounting]
      For stitching it may be advantageous to move the sensor with the lens fixed, so you are sampling an unchanged image circle.
      All depends on what you are using the lens for...

    I have the DXO software but, obviously, can't use it with my Samyang TS 24mm f3.5. Have you tried Topaz AI sharpening software? Doesn't use lens profiles but seems to give good results on my Samyang and other older manual lenses.

      Sharpen AI is my go-to solution for correcting shifted lens shots, see the mention in the 15mm review at
      www.northlight-images.co.uk/review-laowa-15mm-f4_5-shift-lens/
      I'll use it as a masked adjustment layer in PS

      Can medium format G mount lenses be used with that camera?

    i don't like the two GFX shift jumbos: way too big, heavy, slow and too expensive - nothing I nearly can do with Canon TS-E and Laowa Lenses. And: their concept is not completed - why does the 110 mm lets miss the socket??? and gives mo possibility to mont one... so sad - and just in the case one could argue with the better cover sharpness: particularly when you mount panoramic pictures you won't have to go to the extremes, just take one more photo within the -at all - long taking process. again: 4.500 bucks;-((

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 30 shows a significant improvement in quality over the [albeit 2007] TS-E24 on my 5Ds - as to whether the weight and price are issues, well that depends on what you want to do with it. For what it does it's superb - I don't care about f/5.6 since I wouldn't really use it wider - if you want wider aperture for really thin tilted DOF and strong OOF blur, then you likely wouldn't want what the more expensive Fuji brings. At wider apertures I can use adapted lenses of all sorts for stuff where the image quality of the 30 is not needed.
      As to the 110 - early days testing, but once again it's the image quality which shines through. However the TS-E90 ii and TS-E135 are much closer to it and perform well with adapters.
      The bracket is helpful on the 30 - more so than I thought it would be. For the 110, I'm less sure I'd have a use for it.
      Yes, they are heavy - once again, if it's a problem, it's a problem.
      I think they are very much aimed at a professional market where improvements help the bottom line. At the price they are, they were never going to be popular with some...
