The entire Beethoven Concerto cycle w/ Rattle that he did in the late 90s is really phenomenal, esp. the aforementioned G Maj. (4th) & the 3rd. What a life- from ditch-digger to piano virtuoso. This guy is a treasure.

Recently listened to the 4th Beethoven Concerto with Rattle. Truly wonderful.

What a genius of the keyboard. His Schubert, Beethoven and Mozart are without parallel.

David Trainer if you haven't heard Schnabel, Richter, Gilels, Gieseking, Edwin Fischer and many of the other major pianists of the last century, then I see how you'd come to this conclusion, yes. He's a pianistically proficient, intelligent, somewhat professorial player but cmon

@@punkpoetrywith Schubert he is undoubtedly the prime contender for the no 1 spot, hie Beethoven can be a bit inconsistent so I wouldn't place him with Richter and such. But he is all around very good, not only with Schubert

Richter also performed at Wembley town hall (now a school). Seems a rather strange venue for such famous pianists, but it must have been the exceptional acoustics which attracted.

Richter liked small places over the bigger- and famous ones..

very very musical, very wise, but sometimes too intellectual and academic...miss more passion...humor is ok but life is also tragedy...death...resurrection...miracle...i prefer vladimir horowitz, maria callas or ivo pogorelich for my last minute of life music listening if i was given to choose...and you?

One of the worst, there's like no reason to listen to him as there's dozens of other better recordings

That is an ungenerous and discourteous comment which you should have kept to yourself.
