He said he was going to beat her than disappear from the contest, and I love the way that played out. He shook her to her core, tapped that, and then the main plot started moving. Remember when Cid said that "a battle is a conversation". The hallucinating thing is him trying to have a "conversation" with Iris. Using slight movements of his body, he conveyed to Iris what he was going to do. Normal people like the audience aren't skilled enough to perceive the situation they can only see that Iris was pushed back despite Cid not moving an inch. Stronger people like Iris can read his intentions but then get overwhelmed and can't do anything in response. Only with people at the level of Aurora, who can not only read his moves but also fire back at him, can he actually have a proper conversation I might be reading into it a bit too much but I have a theory that the reason why Cid asked Iris why she didn't attack him was simply because he "asked" her something and she just didn't response back lol
I like to the 'hallucinations' that the princess sees are attacks similar to what Cid was doing with his sister earlier in the show, when he was doing deadly strikes faster than she could even sense. However the princess was able to sense those attacks, so she was able to prevent them from 'hitting'. That's why she saw his sword in his hand, because it was.
The dudes near the princes were PROBABLY freaking out because "Cid made the princess drink something she doesn't like" and you usually "don't go against" or "challenge their opinions"... and she had already said "too bitter"...
(Around 14:50) I'm still not over how comical the audience's perspective is watching Iris just Garry's Mod Ragdolling around the arena the entire match 😂
Your reactions about Iris character were great because of the empathy used to analize her whole situation. Most people just saw Iris as an egocentric or even a narcissistic princess who wants to win because of extreme pride. Maybe, some people hate the ones who get 1st place because they think winners always cheat or have the worst attitude. Too many prejudices.

But that's not the main reason she breaks at the end, considering the huge pressure she feels for being the next ruler of Midgard. And she just found out there's a guy who's a huge threat, because he can nuke her country whenever he wants. Try to see the whole situation through her eyes. You grew up knowing that you're the most skilled fighter in your own kingdom. That's why she can't believe Shadow power is real. Also. Cid/Shadow es an anomaly, a being so powerful that is almost impossible to believe. Example: Imagine one day your sister tells you she saw a guy running way faster than a car. Would you believe her? I guess not, because is breaking your reality concept. And you're not being arrogant. Use more empathy and you'll see 😀👍
Iris is a victim of her own power. She was so powerful, capping grown adult knights when she was a kid. She doesn't know how to use her power or really control it, much less learn how to use it effectively.
It has a very good story, and VERY good character development for a few non Cid characters. Iris, Rose, Alexia, the backstory for the girls, this show is SO much better than I originally gave it credit for. I always loved it, but I appreciate it even more now. The episode with Rose and Shadow in the piano scene, all the stuff with Iris, man, I could watch soo many seasons of this.
Man to think Cid was telling Alexia how impressive his sword is when it’s out of its sheathe back at the hot springs, but here he is bodying her sister without even pulling it out. Cid is impressive. Also if Alexia was the one to do this at 18:41 would Lee have gotten up? (If you don’t know what I’m talking about check the original Overlord reactions)

Don't forget that when Shadow Garden was fighting The Cult of Diablos. Iris's attacks where ineffective. Alpha dispatched the enemy with overwhelming power but minimal effort. Ever since then she (Iris) was out of sorts. She couldn't comprehend strength at that level. She's been struggling to get stronger since then. (IMO)

This was an amazing episode! Feels from the start till the end. Rose you are the best and I'm not into blondes but I'm into her. Cid looked so happy starting that fight with the War goddess
I'm so happy to see this anime getting luv from others. Of all the anime that have come out in the last few months, this one is my favorite by far. I look forward to it every week and there is so much happening in this world Season two could be all the side stories that flesh out the world even farther or just a whole season of what shadow garden has been up to behind the scenes on their own or een of their upbringing and I would be right there for it. I love the whole thing. Just a fun show with more depth than you notice at first, lots of colorful characters, and I'd love to see them get into detail about that worlds magic system in order to get a better perspective on just how awesome Cid is for having complete mastery of magic there.
TBH, I really like Iris. She has the ambition and love to advance herself and to protect her kingdom. I mean, she is to be queen, king, whatever, eventually. She wants her people to be safe and happy, and then there's a fing cult and a vigilante group, and blood flows in rivers wherever either of those groups show up. She is just doing what she thinks is her best. Cid just dgaf, and, Shadow Garden is the best force against the Cult and their collaborators. Yo, imagine Iris getting Possessed, and then joining Shadow Garden. How fing OP would her ass be?!? I really, really hope ya'll enjoy the last episode. It is terrible that the season is ending, but, I am in bliss, having been able to share in this fantastic story with everyone. Now, I need Failure Frame, My status as an Assassin, and A Demon Lord's Tale to get animes, and I'll be good. I mean....My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered is getting animated, right?!?

Their conviction towards their end goals has a different amount of time and effort put into the process as Iris has only just started on something that took both of Cid's lives to accomplish
Have you guys watched the Kage-Jitsu, the series of Eminence in Shadow 2-minute shorts focusing on the Seven Shadow's daily lives? You could probably get through all the shorts in 1-2 reactions....
It's not so much an illusion. Iris is just in a position where every move she could make ends in her death, and she knows it. Like you said, she's legitimately good, which is why she understands exactly how fucked she is the moment she moves.

Cause of how Cid drunk his coffee. Noble put effort to make no sounds when drinking, but Cid was drinking like some commoner in middle of full of Nobles and high ranking people.
There's a misunderstanding about Iris' conversation with the king. We glimpse here that even while she was a low-ranking knight Iris had not only skill, she also had the drive to "do the right thing". However, the people around her instead used her as a "mascot princess knight" rather than let her do her best at her actual job. This wasn't shown in anime, but IIRC in the manga they had a bit of extra detail where in one of these flashback scenes she was asking why she wasn't being deployed to make patrol rounds and deal with dangerous targets while the rest of her fellow knights were being sent out to fight. Her superior instead tells her that her job is to participate in a parade to show herself to the people. Exactly like a figurehead mascot. Back at the present conversation with the king, Iris was talking to him about how she (and the king) knows that something was up with Perv Asshat and the country behind him, linked to the Cult of Diabolos and the things that happened to the Church (reported to her by Alexia in the previous eps). Since she doesn't know if she can trust the knight order to do their job (they were compromised and her two trusted Crimson Knights are out of commission), she wants to take matters into her own hands while Perv Asshat was there. The king is stopping her because they have no direct evidence (Shadow Garden has more). This, not to mention that the king is implied to know about the Cult working behind the scenes, has the king telling Iris that they can't do anything drastic. That's why Iris feels desperate that she has to win the tournament so that the Kingdom can prove martial superiority against Asshat and his cronies in the other country, and also so the kingdom can take the initiative against their possible schemes even in the public eye. Kinda like in geopolitics where even if you're right, you can't just go outright bomb places with terrorists in other countries. Unless there's a publicly acceptable "justification" to do so that you can forcibly make as an excuse. Unfortunately for Iris, her drive to uphold her brand of justice which she has been kept away from doing since she was young is actually not going to be possible in the current situation, unless she does what Shadow Garden does and goes vigilante justice. She is stuck between her position imposed upon her, and her own personality that aims for justice--while also shouldering everything by herself because she feels she can't trust anybody anymore nor can she put Alexia in danger by getting her involved. Oh, and they were freaking out about Iris and coffee because it's implied she was dumping A LOT of sugar into the coffee. Like, diabetes A LOT.
I really enjoy watching you guys reactions. You actually watch the show and understand what is being conveyed. Iris is regarded as one of the best in the world. She acts as such. Just her bad luck she happened to run into someone who makes "one of the best" seem like pennies to a dollar. You clued in to the fact that because she's so good she understood what was happening to her. How, as a real person, do you go from thinking that you're the best to witnessing someone like shadow? That's like Usain Bolt not being told he's competing against the Flash. Really enjoy you guys. Take care.
Rose's father fought through the drugged up state to deliver two key phrases to his daughter... "I forgive you for your sins" and "I love you," giving her the peace she needs before her decision to take her life. Love that. This episode overall just shows how PEAK this anime is, can't believe there's only 1 episode left 😫 To be clear, remember, she had her people in the Crimson order get killed and the school got invaded and held hostage so the reputation she's trying to regain is a result of the negative outlook on her from the school situation as well. At face value she doesn't NEED to be out here since she's already won the Festival last year, but she lost reputation points so she's trying to prove herself again to show the people she's strong enough to keep them safe (unfortunately Cid is her opponent and gives no f*cks lol)

The Manga is 95, Anime was 75->80 at this point, Anime meant to be different to the Manga and focus more on the comedy/silly act side, Manga's story is superb and Shadow looks much more cooler actually wearing mask in Manga

It's not so much an illusion. Iris is just in a position where every move she could make ends in her death, and she knows it. Like you said, she's legitimately good, which is why she understands exactly how fucked she is the moment she moves.

There's a misunderstanding about Iris' conversation with the king. We glimpse here that even while she was a low-ranking knight Iris had not only skill, she also had the drive to "do the right thing". However, the people around her instead used her as a "mascot princess knight" rather than let her do her best at her actual job. This wasn't shown in anime, but IIRC in the manga they had a bit of extra detail where in one of these flashback scenes she was asking why she wasn't being deployed to make patrol rounds and deal with dangerous targets while the rest of her fellow knights were being sent out to fight. Her superior instead tells her that her job is to participate in a parade to show herself to the people. Exactly like a figurehead mascot.
Back at the present conversation with the king, Iris was talking to him about how she (and the king) knows that something was up with Perv Asshat and the country behind him, linked to the Cult of Diabolos and the things that happened to the Church (reported to her by Alexia in the previous eps). Since she doesn't know if she can trust the knight order to do their job (they were compromised and her two trusted Crimson Knights are out of commission), she wants to take matters into her own hands while Perv Asshat was there. The king is stopping her because they have no direct evidence (Shadow Garden has more).
This, not to mention that the king is implied to know about the Cult working behind the scenes, has the king telling Iris that they can't do anything drastic. That's why Iris feels desperate that she has to win the tournament so that the Kingdom can prove martial superiority against Asshat and his cronies in the other country, and also so the kingdom can take the initiative against their possible schemes even in the public eye. Kinda like in geopolitics where even if you're right, you can't just go outright bomb places with terrorists in other countries. Unless there's a publicly acceptable "justification" to do so that you can forcibly make as an excuse.
Unfortunately for Iris, her drive to uphold her brand of justice which she has been kept away from doing since she was young is actually not going to be possible in the current situation, unless she does what Shadow Garden does and goes vigilante justice. She is stuck between her position imposed upon her, and her own personality that aims for justice--while also shouldering everything by herself because she feels she can't trust anybody anymore nor can she put Alexia in danger by getting her involved.
Oh, and they were freaking out about Iris and coffee because it's implied she was dumping A LOT of sugar into the coffee. Like, diabetes A LOT.
I really enjoy watching you guys reactions. You actually watch the show and understand what is being conveyed. Iris is regarded as one of the best in the world. She acts as such. Just her bad luck she happened to run into someone who makes "one of the best" seem like pennies to a dollar. You clued in to the fact that because she's so good she understood what was happening to her. How, as a real person, do you go from thinking that you're the best to witnessing someone like shadow? That's like Usain Bolt not being told he's competing against the Flash. Really enjoy you guys. Take care.

Rose's father fought through the drugged up state to deliver two key phrases to his daughter... "I forgive you for your sins" and "I love you," giving her the peace she needs before her decision to take her life. Love that. This episode overall just shows how PEAK this anime is, can't believe there's only 1 episode left 😫
To be clear, remember, she had her people in the Crimson order get killed and the school got invaded and held hostage so the reputation she's trying to regain is a result of the negative outlook on her from the school situation as well. At face value she doesn't NEED to be out here since she's already won the Festival last year, but she lost reputation points so she's trying to prove herself again to show the people she's strong enough to keep them safe (unfortunately Cid is her opponent and gives no f*cks lol)

Iris wants to do the best for the poeple, but politics and self intrest chaining her down so she unable to do what is Right and instead doing what is expected. if she was allowed she would of gone after the church but it a bad move polically with out over whelming prove.

The Manga is 95, Anime was 75->80 at this point, Anime meant to be different to the Manga and focus more on the comedy/silly act side, Manga's story is superb and Shadow looks much more cooler actually wearing mask in Manga
