In addition, we found that 4.5% of pages get less than 10 search visitors each month.
While the stats may seem alarming, our data points to two common SEO mistakes to avoid to be in the top 5% of web pages across the entire internet!
The first SEO mistake we discovered is that pages with no traffic do not have any or many quality backlinks.
In fact, we found that 55.24% of pages have zero referring domains pointing at them. And 29.79% of pages have backlinks from less than three websites.
Some marketers believe that link building is useless. However we found a clear positive correlation between the number of referring domains pointing at a page and its organic search traffic.
And the same goes for the total number of keywords a page ranks for.
Bottomline: if you want to get organic traffic to your pages, then you need to build links as it is foundational and an SEO best practice.
This tutorial covers a couple link building strategies to get backlinks to existing content.

The second SEO mistake that we saw in pages with no search traffic is that they are not targeting a topic with enough search traffic potential.
Even if you have all the links in the world, but you're not targeting a meaningful keyword with search traffic potential, then you may not be able to reap the passive SEO traffic that’s possible with Google.
This is one of the biggest mistakes that you'll see news sites doing.
For example, we found that nearly 30,000 pages had over 200 unique websites linking to them, but had no monthly search traffic whatsoever.
This was most commonly found in two scenarios.
The first were pages that went overboard with black hat SEO techniques. And the second type were news websites.
Since news articles are often focused on “click-worthy” headlines, it can be challenging to ground them behind meaningful keywords. Also, journalists are trained to write, but not necessarily for SEO copywriting.
If you happen to have pages with a lot of links, but are not gaining search traffic, you'll learn a couple ways to use these pages to increase your organic traffic.

I'm using keyword explorer and found a "head term" that I would like to target. It would be long tail for my new site. It ranks for about 30 other keywords or so. Where can i find a good guide how to write the content so it can also rank for the other terms. I obviously don't want to keyword stuff my article with all the terms. This is where I'm getting hung up. If i was to pay someone to write my article. Would I just give them the keywords i'm wanting to target? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

We don't use (or suggest) using PBNs as a backlinks strategy. It's generally better to err on the safe side, but that's a personal decision you would have to make.

I hurt one thing in ahref when I want to check k.w volume in ahref it's show me less volume of entered k.w but the volume of same k.w is higher in other k.w research tool. Why?
It depends on where those tools get their data from, and how often it is updated. Our data is from Google Keyword Planner, modelled together with clickstream data. This allows us to keep our data as fresh as possible.

Point #1 was that most "trafficless" pages don't have any or many backlinks. We went on to show different correlations between the number of backlinks have and the amount of search traffic + keyword rankings it gets.
Bottomline: get backlinks to your pages for more traffic :)

How is a towing service supposed to get backlinks? I don’t understand. I have people contacting me asking for money for a backlink but I’d wrather spend that money on google ads because I know for sure that works. Small businesses getting backlinks is kinda rough
We don't recommend "buying links." Some niches are harder to get backlinks in (maybe towing), but guest posts tend to work well for this. I've seen other sites use infographics with interesting data in very boring niches too.

What's your opinion on targeting 'long tail keywords' with may be ~100 search volume.
Write an excellent content, publish it, share it over social channels, do some paid promotions.
Probably it could be top 5 position, & then earn links naturally.
And then as you suggested, for example, the on page topic, do some additional research & cover keywords with high search volume.

That may be helpful to see a couple strategies in action.
Also, I personally wouldn't rely on only getting backlinks because you rank high unless you're an established site. Even with long-tail keywords, you'll likely need to build some links to your pages to compete.

Maybe, but AHrefs *is* fantastic. Besides, it basically does exactly what your SEO strategy should be doing: creating content that fully addresses a topic whilst massaging in how your product is an answer to that topic.

95%+ of the videos here are Ad but that doesn´t take validity from its content or that Ahrefs is the best SEO marketing tool today.

Great video, but who can afford ahrefs when starting their own website for the first time especially when you are trying to start your own business.
Thanks, Alfred. I guess "afford" would be about perspective. For example, our Lite plan is $99, which works out to $3.30/day. To many, even those who are just starting out, it would make more sense to invest in tools to grow their search traffic/business rather than other things they may spend that money on (ie. a latte, a big mac, or whatever) 😀

the internet technology is a bad design. that is the only problem why whatever you put on the internet gets lost. entire setup needs to be either changed or redesigned.

No lo dejaremos de hacer porque por el momento funciona, pero el dia que desaparezca este tipo de estrategia Google sera un lugar mejor, ya que solo nos esforzaremos por la calidad de contenido, analítica, estructura web, experiencia de usuario, etc. etc.

As for me, sharing a link to a good piece of content is a perfect way to determine the value. The more people share - the more value the content offer. This is the first time I hear about "censorship" for a single page, while there are no issues with the rest of the website

Same old, same old. I am a travel blogger. 4 years ago publish a travel blog about an off the beaten track location and I was at number 1 cos the competition in that country was low at that time. 2 years later, some big travel blogs started to publish about the same location. however they havent even travel to that county and they used generic info. As if today my post is at number 4 or 5 and lost big traffic. Google ranked a page which is very thin, no external links, only three photos , no real life experience. More importantly the photo they used is taken from a website. since they havent been to that country they have no idea what it looks like, they used a photo from the wrong location with the same name. Google cannot even distinguish between a good post and a bad post. You guys are talking about quality link non sense. A multi billion company should have proper algorithm first and stop favoring big websites. the rest is just detail.
Unfortunately that happens from case to case, where original content has a lack of website authority to be on top of the rock. Try to republish your post with some additional information and maybe some latest events/updates about that place. Additionally, check websites, who linked to competitor posts (those on position 1-4) and reach out to them offering to link to your original content. Might worth trying to give it a second chance ;)

@@AhrefsCom I have already restructured the post, added new photos and shared on social media. Not sure if it works or not or how long it takes to get traffic again. But unless google stops favoring big blogs, there is no way people can discover proper information on the net. there are tons of examples, old and thin posts rank super high and good and new posts end up in the bottom or even in the second page. sadly, not all of us can get back-links from BBC or CNN or some other big sites.
@@AhrefsCom i also check on aherfs and moz ,the post on number 1 has no back-links. post at number 2 and 3 are coming from the same website which is also very unfair. the post at number 1 is so bad that no one would naturally share it. However big websites has more than one websites and they work closely with other big sites. We dont have that luxury I am afraid.
Did you check for other possible rankings factors, like mobile friendliness and pagespeed? Maybe these are some issue with titles, H1s, etc🤔

I do use H1 and optimized with keywords. if google says no, it doesn't matter what you do , you dont rank. google does rank a page with no photo and the search term does not even match the title. we are made to believe that if you post doesnt rank, that means you have a technical problem or your content is poor. Therefore, instead of believe in our content we keep blaming ourselves. thinking it is our fault.

I can't get backlinks from my competitors because all 20 of them has no contact form. They don't respond on their websites comments, they don't have an email address, name or whatever.
In my niche nobody does guest posts. The last guest post was wrote in 2009. And the guys who link to my competitors are CNN, BBC, local random newspapers around the world, and that's it.
They don't have so many HQ backlinks.. the majority of them are crap from random dead websites.
All of their traffic is organic. And their articles are pretty much boring and I don't understand why they are on the first page on google... They are for almost 10 years now.
Their websites are broken, a lot of 404 links, dirty URLs, random tags, but still I can't do anything about it.
I think google doesn't care too much about my niche.. Maybe because these people are dominating it for too long and maybe google forgot about it.
Eh... I think I'll try to get links from Social Media channels than websites... Or maybe try my luck and ask BBC to link to my website.
