Well, I just ordered my fan, it overheated during inspection, smoke everywhere, lol, I was having AC issues, but never overheated till today, and I turned the entire ventilation system off while getting inspected, hopefully something I can tackle 🤞🏼 thanks for the video.
I am having a problem that might be related. When I go on long drives in my MKX at highway speeds when I get off the road and in traffic situations my car overheats. I replaced the thermostat and drove about 45 miles to have lunch with my children yesterday. Ran fine with the gauge not getting over 50% (about 180 degrees). Got off the highway and drove about 2 miles through city street and being early drove slowly around the strip mall the restaurant was in. Car overheated. After eating, about 45 min, I opened the hood and the reservoir was about half empty. I filled it up got in the car and drove back home WITHOUT the AC on and everything was fine. I know NO ONE can diagnose my problem here but this seems like a reasonable theory. Is there anyway to troubleshoot the fans?
Thanks for the DIY. I was able to swap out my cooling fan assembly on my 2008 MKX in about 45 minutes thanks to your video. I followed it step by step including strapping the hose and wiring harness. I wished you wouldn't have skipped over how to remove the air box. Took a minute to figure out its just pushed in and held by a couple of rubber sockets held in by pressure. I pulled it right out. It went in so much easier than it did coming out. I was like, wait a minute? Is that it? It went in too easy... I thought for sure I had forgotten a step. Lol. Thanks again!
Do both fans turn on at the same time? The fan on the left (standing in front of the car) does not start. Does this mean that it's the relay that has to be replaced?
If the fans are spinning and the car is over heating then stuck thermostat, fluid level or clogged radiator. Usually one fan will turn on and the second fan comes on when the AC is on.
so at the end of the day, did this fix your issues. Ac not blowing cold at idle? When you said it took out the pump, what are you referring to? Water Pump?
The “cap cover” is a heat shield only on the condenser fan due to very close proximity to exhaust manifold. I found this video helpful but there was a hose bracket bolt to bottom of shroud and an additional plastic fastener on passenger side. Finally came out but not as fast.
On my 08 Edge limited didn't have the cover either. But there was also a bolt holding a coolant line on the bottom drivers side so only 3 bolts on the fan assembly and the one on the air cleaner.
Good job .There are all the same locations for Lincoln mkt, mks,Mkx,Ford edge,. Ford made all those cars good but with little complications how to do the service yourself. Specifically the transmission filter or transfer case fill bolt and drain plug.
Fintech Repair Shop Yup. It was almost identical. A bit hard taking it out but the video helped me to know exactly what to do. Switched it out and it works perfect. Thanks for the tutorial.
Fintech Repair Shop my 08 edge also had a bolt holding coolant line holder on bottom of the fan assembly. Easley reached. Under all the air filter side.
Great video, it's similar on the Ford Edge 2013, doing mines tomorrow..the secondary fan does not bring a cap cover so it did not come off. Great idea using the bungee cord, buying one at the dollar store tomorrow.. did you remove 2 nuts or 3 not sure if it has one at the bottom.. I'll find out tomorrow. Did u have a hard time removing the hoses? I found a tool that makes removing them a breeze..AutoCraft Clip Removal Pliers Part No. AC505/W86556 19.99 at advance auto parts..

Didnt watch 100% but it was a big help. Make sure you specify that your vehicle has towing package or not because they are different fan assemblies
Thank you for your video, I was able to complete this job myself today with your help! 😁👍🏼
Thank you
Wow!!! I was super worried about doing this job, but now I see I can do this job in 7 minutes! 🤣

My car over heats and I put the new fans on, and it still over heats, any ideas?
