I hate this thing too for all the reasons that you just mentioned. I have been flagged for everything from my kid yelling through the door to looking off the side to figure out a math problem on a piece of scrap paper.
Also the proffessors that use this are the same ones who normally are like: "omg at time stamp 23:34:23:01 you blinked in 3 rotations instead of your normal 5 rotations I can only assume that is some kind of Morse code for what's the answer to number 50 you are cheating"
You know, I'm facing a similar problem with one class where I have to use LockDown Browser Respondus (with webcam), and when I see the 9 steps that have to be taken before you can take a normal test it's like *fft* if this is the future of testing then fucking kill me, I don't want any of this (some testers can go as far as asking for you to show your ID and surroundings. Imagine your SSN card and credit card being the next step). This isn't even mentioning the fact that Respondus easily behaves like malware by literally disabling your entire computer except the browser unless you click the X button.
I have to use it this Thursday and lowkey freaking out cause I don't trust the program... did a test exam with it and it felt sooo weird/my computer wasn't working as smoothly?...
Bro I’m so happy my high school doesn’t use this shit. On zoom meetings last year, we had to turn on our camera and mic during tests and I felt so weird knowing that my entire class/teacher could see and hear everything I’m doing
