Right after RT mentioned Barracks' build being "slightly better" I watched the SCV production and Flash was consistently hitting just a bit better. We love Flash for all kinds of flashy reasons but here he showed he can win a game by just nailing perfect, crisp, consistent macro rounds and hitting a timing off the small advantage he got from that. I really wish we could ask him if he knew that he had the advantage in vulture count or if he was just trying to trade down and found himself winning unexpectedly
It's the star-sense. One can only have that kind of situational awareness on a level beyond perfect macro/micro control by living StarCraft for well over 20 years. My best educated guess is Flash instantly knew it wasn't going to be a long drawn out game when his tank crossed the bridge uncontested, and BarrackS' passivity is the fatal mistake that should never have been made. His advantage built up over five minutes of constant vulture production. With wiggle room to spare mind you!
I counted 21 (Flash) vs 17 Vultures in the final battle initially, with Flash reinforcements arriving first to clean it up. So while the bridge engagement wasn't optimal for Flash initially because of positioning, he ended up simply having too much when the next rally arrived.
Yes... but keep in mind that Flash was pumping out vultures five at a time while BarrackS was teching into Academy and Comsats with a seemingly better economy. Not to mention the multiple supply blocks, which hurts vulture production consistency by a LOT! Having 4 extra SCVs means squat if you're constantly supply blocked, and only produce 2 vultures at a time because of it. The game was won because of many elements that are compounding over several minutes, not just because of one specific point in the game.
You said we love watching Flash games, but I just wanna put my vote in and say while I love Flash, I would like to see other players as well. Sharp was looking so good for the first rounds of last season, I'd love for you to cast some of him.
Hey Artosis, guy here. THX for being you. I appreciate nearly all of your content. love the newly strategy explonations at the end of your cast videos.
other player makes: 1 academy (150min) 2 comsat (100min / 100gas). Flash didn't build any of that nonsense, instead he built 1 more factory (200min / 100gas) and just mined mineral hard and won lol
Even Arty called out the comsats being useless in this matchup! Strategic blunder by BarrackS... What even is tthe point of academy in TvT??? Even in other maps
Yeah I could see how ppl would of thought that because they are so much better against small units. But yeah considering how cheap they are, and their abilities especially after upgrades, vultures clearly are very good when used correctly.
@@dj_koen1265 They are bad vs buildings and large units, it's easy to see why many ppl thought Vultures are bad. If you saw through this on day 1 right away and noticed how good they are, congratulations. You are clearly better at understanding Vultures than some people.
In certain situations, yes... vultures are terrible. Like against Ultras, or any air units. But their strength lies in how you use them, what advantage are you trying to create for yourself. I suggest you watch a couple of TvP games Artosis has casted over the years, you'll see how important vultures are for mech builds.
@@tohothewriter8002 Vultures in many matchups are easy to counter. They are terrible against tanks, Dragoons, weak against hydras and all defensive buildings (best option is to ignore and kill workers until all vultures die). Also to be good they need both upgrades, so in their place you can already get a tank in siege mode. They are mostly good for recon, harassment and defense against enemy zealots and vultures.
Flash recognized that the only way to win wasn't with an insane economy, but rather through a constant production of vultures. 5 at a time, and no indication of teching into anything else. BarrackS just assumed the game would turn into a macro game where he could counter attack with vultures... except, Flash was about to blungeon him with so many vultures, it was simply an all-in. Nothing more about this game on this classic map. Figthing Spirit is not good by today's standards, or Arto's standards, but a classic map it remains.
If an SCV can repair a floating building why can't it attack one? Why don't reaver scarabs do splash damage to friendly units like siege tanks? Why is Arty not wearing pants?
they repair with invisible lasers using a secret wifi entry code that only their own buildings have, so only works on those. And scarabs obviously use this super advanced alien protoss technology that is beyond human capabilities or understanding... Then again, why do Reavers not have to siege? Why do lurkers and reavers not have dead range like tanks do.. ?
Flash's 5 facts finish before BarrackS, yes. The problem is that BarrackS is hitting supply block after supply block at critical times, which compounded in not being able to produce 5 vultures every cycle, but rather 2, sometimes 3 at a time. Another big mistake that BarrackS made was spending his money on things he didn't need.(e.g. Academy & double comsat)
It has real problems, but also Arty being Arty. The bases are very imbalanced, the second expansions are so small that they are very easy defendable. And what he mentions in the video, camping outside of an opponent's bridge, sitting in an arch, is too strong.
00:23 arty states that Barracks is one of the, figuratively & literally, hottest players. only a caster like arty could balance Barracks’ flame with the power of chills
Hotkey your CC to 5. Hotkey your scv to 1. Then press 555151515151515515151515111515 while making boxes to highlight units randomly. The pros do it to keep their hands warm so when they have to do meaningful actions their hands will be ready. Newbs do it to imitate the pros but for most people it’s totally unnecessary. I would much prefer if replays tracked EAPM, or effective apm because it removes spammed actions. 300 apm alone tells you nothing but 200-250 eapm means ur legitimately a mechanical beast. I don’t know if they patched this in the last couple years but you could also hotkey something and just hold that hotkey to make ur apm jump to 2000. You could do that constantly and all in rush someone to end the game quickly and your opponent would see on the ending screen you had like 1300 apm and think u we’re hacking.
thats why APM is not a real teller of someone's actual speed. They simply hit buttons and go around their keycodes, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, click click clickclkclkclk, 1, 2, 3 clikcclick... (even if they are only selecting things and doing nothing with them). It only comes to play when there are enough units and buildings, but I guess it helps to get used to maintaining that speed.. which becomes a habit in the end. but as you see, the actual speed is in NOT MISSING A BEAT in your macro, hitting the ACTUAL actions that DO the IMPORTANT stuff.. as did Flash in this game. (though is kinda silly to talk about barracks as being "fassster" than flash when Flash's APM is 370 vs 410... not tha musch difference really, probably a few less nonsense clicking and more to the point actions instead).
*takes notes furiously**
More vultures beats less vultures
This is the type of insight you get from Flashcasts
I am sure that in some scenario, less vultures could beat more vultures. Chills!
Hehe. When I played this game I could have over 5 units, 12 drones, 200 gas, and a Lair by only 88 minutes.
