    In last question about the Odss Ratio, the answer should be (60/200)/ (40/160), why is it option C?
    And in the question about the RR about the prostate cancer
    The formula you wrote is (a/a+b)/ (c/c+d) 15:43 and because "first on top" it goes backwards, (c/c+d)/(a/a+b), but still, the process you followed was (b/b+d)/ (a/a+c)... im confused

    The genius of your videos is that they offer something very different. Its very hard to establish yourself nowadays teaching on the Internet. The competition is simply not fair. Your videos however target a part of the material that most larger comapnies don't cover too well (not in a practical way at least).
    Very grateful for your work. My CK is tomorrow 🙏🙏

    Before watching Dr Neil's videos I felt like an absolute mess when faced with a Biostats Q and now it seems too easy it's unbelievable! My only regret is that I didn't find these videos earlier as my Step 3 is 1 week from today but even so they were more helpful than a whole 2 weeks of studying Biostats so thank you so much Dr Neil and God Bless you! I am literally going to recommend this channel to everyone I know! Good luck everyone 🙏

    In the last question the divided one number (60) by one number (200) over one number (40) divided by 2 numbers (40+160)
    ie (A/B)/(C/C+D)
    isn't the OR supposed to be (AxD)/(CxB) which would be answer choice A?

    • @RandyNeilMD
      @RandyNeilMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have to relook... Case control (odds ratio) 1 number over 1 number... Cohort (relative risk) 1 number over 2.

      C. (60/200) / (40/ (40+60)) ; 1 number over 2

  • @michaeldasso4024
    @michaeldasso4024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    For the Odds Ratio question, I believe the answer should be (60/40)/(200/160).
    Odds Ratios (a/c)/(b/d) represent the odds of exposure among cases (a/c) vs odds of exposure among controls (b/d). In this problem, being old is represented as the exposure (a,b) and the case is represented as a low score (c,d).

    • @ronnymervis6963
      @ronnymervis6963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Just to add a little to this. His equation/answer was just written incorrectly. it should have been "(60/200)/(40/160)" as opposed to "(60/200)/(40)/(40+160)". Rearranging the fraction, as you did (i.e., (a/b)/(c/d) rearranged to (a/c)/(b/d)) yields the exact same answer (OR=1.2)

    Thank you for your help Dr Neil! Just one question. On 22:10 you said it is a case control study. I think it is a retrospective cohort since we can look at low USMLE scores as a disease. So if we have two groups, one with a risk factor for low score (being older) and one without the risk (being younger) and we look retrospectively to see if they had low scores ('a disease') then I would consider it a cohort study. It is similar to observing if smokers and non-smokers developed COPD or SCLC. If it was a case control, we would have a group with low scores (a disease) and a group without low scores (no disease) and then we would look if they were exposed to a risk factor such as an old age. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

      That is what the table indicates, a group of low score vs a group with no low score and they're studying how many people were older than 50 in both groups and what are the odds of you getting a low score if you're older then 50.
      Note the text in the question gives incomplete information, the table explained it better.

  • @shahzaibkhan6242
    @shahzaibkhan6242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Sir in the Question explained from 21:08 to 22:40 they have grouped the students on the basis of independent variables(age) so this should be a Cohort study not a case control and hence the next Question should ask about Relative risk not odds ratio
    bye the way you are great sir thank you

    Mean 210, STD 15, how many above 240 = 2.5% since 2 STD = 95% and 5% outside of those 2 STD. Means above is 5% / 2 = 2.5% because the other 2.5% is BELOW.

    am I tripping or at 24:00 isn't C still incorrect because the second half of the question includes 40 in the denominator? shouldn't it be (40/160) instead of (40/(40+160)) ? thank you for your videos they are incredibly helpful!

    Dr. Neil, Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I had a question- isn't PPV related to Specificity and NPV related to Sensitivity? I mean if specificity increases ,then PPV increases and vice versa and if Sensitivity increases then NPV does and vice versa.But, if we have to calculate PPV, we use Sensitivity values(top values) and for NPV Specificity values(bottom). So, how come PPV related to specificity and NPV to Sensitivity?

    For the problem at 13:48, why don't we consider the true positives and true negatives? Because to me, every number is getting smaller, TN/TP/FN/FP. So just logistically, I would have said nothing changes. Because the numerator got small as the denominator got small as well.

    In the question about the USMLE scores isn't it supposed to be a cross sectional type?
    and aren't the answer choices supposed to be test names in the first place? (such as t-test, ANOVA, Chi-square...) --> if so it would be a Chi-square test I assume, right?

    Hi Dr. Neil! Quick clarifying question: in a previous video you stated that if the confidence interval crosses 1, it is not significant. However in this video, you said if it crosses 0 it is not significant. Are both true?
