Buying a property at auction? Taking a complicated legal process and making it less daunting

I am a real estate agent living in New Zealand and we are currently planing to return back to the UK as soon as we sell our house here. My question to you is, here in New Zealand and Australia auctions are common place alongside the normal selling process. How common is the auction process in the UK? Do sellers like or dislike auctions? Cheers Mark
