Just imagining an situation where it didn't happen based on this audio really helps despite this being a few years ago. Not to mention when I got a second chance with someone I started dating who was about to have her prom, covid happened. So needless to say, I'm very thankful for this audio. After all the shit I've been through, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me to paint a picture for what that night could've been like.

I remember going to a prom. Our school always organizes a big event and everyone has to learn how to dance from special teachers for the grand dance at the end. Most of the students in my school were girls and they got to pick a date (don't ask me how that logic works). No one ended up picking me. Most girls had boyfriends and those that didn't just danced with other girls. The number of dancers was uneven and the organizers brought a girl (one of the younger instructors) to be my partner. She was a sweet girl. Didn't make fun of me like some did. On the day of the dance I was the only one who brought a rose. Everyone looked at me like I was a weirdo. "Dude, why'd you bring a rose?" Why didn't you? You're the one with a girlfriend. She thanked me and the dance went great. But she needed to leave early for personal reasons. She was genuinely sorry and I held no grudge. I don't regret going. Not one bit. The dance was nice and the after-party was fun. At the end of the day I had a great time.

I remember when I asked my crush to prom, only to be met with a “rain check”. My autistic brain thought “well, it’s better than no.” and waited for a definitive answer. Turns out she was gonna ask someone else but didn’t want to tell me. Felt like a massive idiot when my sister found out and told me. Went to prom with some friends anyway for the sake of saying I went, but ultimately wish I hadn’t. Hope this video helps everyone else that didn’t get an ideal prom experience. I went to prom without a date and just hung out with my friends. Honestly, it was the best party I’ve been to. I believe that to have the best time at prom (or any party), don’t stress about going with a date or just going with friends. As long as you have fun with the people around you, it will one of if not the best parties you’ll ever have.
The thing is my mom is ALWAYS asking me who I’m going to prom with and me knowing that’s probably not gonna happen I decide to go with friends and she’s not even alright with that it just feels like I’m being forced to go with a date. 😢

I stopped going to dances, proms, and other events in High School. I always ended up being a Wallflower, and that wasn't fun. No one wanted to go with me, so I was just there - alone. So I stopped going and decided to spend those nights at home playing games or watching movies, feeling way better. I still don't go to events, parties, or other activities on campus, and I'm in my third year of college now.
