You're right about social media... I fear for the younger generations.. it's a hell hole...😢

Sure is. Some people learn to stay away from it however I’ve noticed

Man's World live at Montreux is a great choice, but you need to watch more of her originals as well after that... Peace and love from BavaRAYEa

Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 👋
Raye is spectacular! Glad you have discovered her 😊
Her Tiny Desk performance is really stunning! So jazzy and her voice just shines. Also her cover of Feeling Good (Triple J) is hauntingly beautiful - she plays the piano for that one.
I don't know if you can access BBC Radio1 Live Lounge TH-cam videos but she did her song Black Mascara and she also covered Running up that hill, which were both amazing! Definitely worth a watch if you can access the content in USA.
Other live performances I think you would enjoy are: The Thrill is Gone (Mercury Awards), It's a Man's World (at the Montreux Jazz Festival and also live at the AMAs), Worth it (at the Hilton Hotel in London and also her performance of Worth it/Genesis on SNL), Escapism (SNL), Genesis (The Daily Show), Oscar Winning Tears (Kelly Clarkson Show).
All of her live performances are incredible and she constantly switches up the musical arrangements of her songs which is so interesting! Her live version of her album 21st Century Blues recorded at The Royal Albert Hall is just chefs kiss 👌
I also appreciate that she shines a light on topical issues in her music and it creates conversations. She is open about the dark situations that she has gone through (sexual violence, body dysmorphia, addiction and mental health) and about wanting to normalise talking about these topics to help others.
She is also very outspoken about wanting better rights for songwriters (she is a very accomplished songwriter and has written for so many big names over the years) and for everyone who contributes to creating songs to be awarded fairly.
She is also an independent artist now - she was signed to the label Polydor back in 2014 and they were happy to profit off her songwriting abilities but wouldn't let her release her own music (despite her signing a contract for an album deal with them). They only allowed her to be a feature on dance singles. So her success is very much deserved and it's wonderful to see her thriving 😊

Her tiny desk caught my eye and thank you for this comment and background I’ll certainly be doing more reactions to her on the channel

I feel like she should be way bigger than she is. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of her

Then again have substance and true artistry isn’t as popular as materialism and booty rhymes these days

Gotta check out her track ‘Environmental Anxiety’. Very experimental but very, very apt for our current time.

Is it about literal environmental anxiety? I know multiple people that have difficulty making basic very small decisions because they’re constantly thinking about how each breath they take impacts the environment

@ More just the existential dread of knowing the planet is fucked and humans aren’t doing anything much about it.

3:57 I definitely see that. Sadly my kids are no exception. Although I’ve prevented any use of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat.. they still use TH-cam and discord and do social gaming. Seems that’s enough to have the effect. 😞🤷‍♀️

I think teaching them about what these things do to the human brain is just as important as keeping some restrictions until they’re old enough to make their own decisions. Personally as a young boy some level of gaming and playing certain games helped certain aspects of my development… maybe hurt some others
