RDU is a perfect mid-sized airport. Easy to navigate, decent amount of shops and restaurants, and huge amount of destinations. Super close if you live anywhere in the Triangle
Great video. I live here in raleigh and whenever i'm about to fly out of RDU, i love watching videos just about flying or airports. Heading to milwaukee in about 3 days! Subbed and liked!

You mentioned baggage pickup for international arrivals is baggage 1 to the left. Is that where you wait for someone that is coming in on a international flight? Thanks
Great video, really enjoyed it. But one thing that I would've liked to have seen information about was on public transit access to RDU. My understanding is that transit isn't especially convenient at RDU, but videos like yours can help make it easier to use.
Thanks for the input, Nishanth! I'm a huge proponent of public transit, but RDU was a little harder. As with many things, COVID-19 up-ended RDU's regional bus schedule, making the current situation temporary, and less suitable for a uneditable video tour. The rental car companies at RDU are also changing service, as you saw; everybody's been hit! As of September 2021, GoTriangle provides shuttle service from Zone 2 (Terminal 1, Southwest's terminal) and Zone 6 for Terminal 2, which is also used for rental car shuttles. It departs from these zones once every 30 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays during the day, and once an hour after about 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. On Sundays, the regular 100 bus serves the same zones, but comes only once an hour. It provides connectivity all the way to downtown Raleigh. The shuttles, however, will only take you as far as the regional transit center, a couple miles from the airport, but still 10-12 miles from there to either downtown and with, at least, one or two connections. Transit schedules to take a weary passenger to their destination downtown was two hours at the fastest. If it were me, I'd arrange someone to pick you up, or make a friend on the plane with whom you can share a cab or a rideshare. I hope this helps, but rest assured it's always my goal to include public transit wherever possible, and in many cases, it's a highlight of the airport!
@@MilesByFoot Thanks a lot for explanation, I appreciate that. I too am a bit of a transit enthusiast, so if I'm traveling by myself, I'll usually take the extra effort (and time) to use transit. Uber picks up at Zone 1 (outside the baggage claim at Terminal 1, the smaller terminal), or outside the baggage claim in Terminal 2 at Zone 17. Many rideshare apps, including Lyft, have the ability to tell you where to be picked up when you order your ride.
@@MilesByFoot Yep you're correct. Booked a ride on Lyft, and got picked up from zone 17 (or 8. It's the same thing) outside Terminal 2. The zone had purple colored signs that had the number 8 written on them.

Absolutely, thanks for the suggestion! The USO at RDU is landside, to the left of security in terminal 2, near the closed Starbucks. If you go to 3:05 in the video, it's in the background, behind the ticketing desks. Thank you for your service!
Also probably worth noting that due to the pandemic, some hotels that normally run courtesy shuttles may not anymore, or temporarily. Best to call the hotel and ask.
Yeah I’m not saying the shuttles run on a schedule, but even the ones that operate by request only may not operate due to Covid. At least that might have been the case in the past, when the first peak wave hit. Like I said, best to call the hotel and see if they offer a shuttle and if you have to request it once you land
If you're landing in terminal 2 (all airlines except Southwest are in 2), head towards the center of the concourse after you deplane. Head up the small flight of stairs and walk past security. You'll emerge in the large landside area of the terminal. There are a pair of escalators that go down, with a big glass sculpture hanging over them. Head down and check to the left or right to find your baggage claim. There are only a few claims, so itll be easy to find the one for your flight!
Most airports in the baggage claim area have monitors displaying arriving flight information. Sometimes they’ll include the baggage claim carousel number. This may be displayed on the monitor as “claim,” “baggage,” etc.
Customs is in Terminal 2; the airlines that use Terminal 1 (at least for now) don't have international service, so you'll clear customs and immigration in Terminal 2 on all airlines, then emerge next to the international baggage claim on that terminal's ground floor.
Thank you! I’m taking a trip and coming back to RDU. I’ve traveled internationally from there before, but my return flight had a layover somewhere else before returning to RDU, so my customs experiences have never been through them.
