Akash, this is fantastic. Couldn't agree more--only we know if we're living up to our fullest potential, and finding alignment with that is key to sustainable happiness. Will be recommending this video to lots of fellow creators ❤️
True. I'm experiencing the same right now. I spent so much time into work, and indeed feel like it's really easy to work on smth whole days long. There will be always smth that u may work on, smth that u may improve, etc. But we should be more about "working smart, not hard". Especially that our body really suffers from long work hours and bad nutrition. And don't forget about hobbies - playing games, etc. Keeping mental health good is also very important.
Extreme pain like that can be so traumatizing… I’m so sorry you’ve been through that. Thank you for sharing your experience and what’s pushing you forward!!
This is brutal, I had no idea you went through this… Happy to see that you fully recovered! That was a very inspirational video though and I very much aim to steer my life in the same direction as my sound design career grows.
I''m happy you made it...listening to the way you were treated, feels like you live in Montreal. That's messed up :( yet again, great and inspiring video!
Wow! What a survivor you are, I have been following you for so long and never knew you went through such hardship. Always so upbeat! I hope one day I can be you.
I’ve been going through health stuff for the past year and have just been coasting until I’ve felt better, which thankfully has been recently. Has been with my intestines too. I’ve put my family first more than anything now, but gotta figure out career goals now, so glad to see and hear this advice.
Thank you for sharing this. I've had this realization before even though I haven't even been close to a near death experience and it's a piece of wisdom that I often forget.
Goooooodnight, dude. Brutal. Glad to hear you're feeling back to 100% these days. Experienced a similar incident (acute appendicitis > quickly progressed to a ruptured appendix > emergency surgery) that opened my eyes to the importance of focusing on what matters and getting over/passed the trivial. That event is actually what helped me gain clarity needed to move back into the beautiful world of audio, which unfortunately I had been neglecting. Feels good, man.
Yes your own health is most important to the person. Gotta take care of your own self, before taking care of others in a sense of even being able to take care of others if not strong enough. Not even talking about work. Glad you survived.
Oh my, Akash! I remember you have been in the hospital but I had no idea of how extremely severe this was. So glad to know you are doing good again now. All the best to you!
Thank you for this. I'm entering the next stage of my game composing journey and this is exactly what I needed to hear. I know it's easy to get trapped in a cycle of intense hours and letting negative feedback get to you, but it doesn't have to be that way. There aren't enough open discussions like this in the gaming world. Hope you're doing well now!
I had no idea you went through this Akash. So glad you made it through. You really are a positive force in the sound design community and though not a sound designer myself, I always love watching your videos as you always bring great wisdom and advice. Sounds like you are taking care of yourself which is great to hear. Keep it up! 🐱
Hey Akash! Wow glad you got out of this crazy story. This must have been hell. Thanks for sharing all this. As in 2015, I still consider what you teach/share as very good input and guidance. Take care and I'll lookout for your other videos.
For my fellow bookworms out there, the idea of intensity and focus had me thinking about these two straight away, both by author Cal Newport: 'So Good They Can't Ignore You' and 'Deep Work'
Man... I always appreciate your videos and your lovely humor! We met at some past GDC and we hugged :) thank you for been so supportive and inspiring. (im the ETHEREAL sound designer, :) )
@@AkashThakkarAudio and going back to what you say in the video, I really appreciate your reflections on this matter. We have to be so grateful of the time we have in here... Its so finite and this time of human history is crazy... Gracias🙏 Un saludo grande Akash!
New phobia unlocked

Thank you so much! That means a lot to hear!
Curious - have you read The Art of Impossible?
Also: damn dude.
Never heard of it, but just bought it! Thank you!
+1 to Steven Kotler. I've read The Rise of Superman on recommendation and loved it. Didn't know about this one, thanks!
Came for the Sound design advice.
Left thinking about our own mortality and how to seize the day.
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much! That means a lot that the videos are appealing even outside of sound design!

Haha! I'm glad someone noticed!
Thanks Akash.
