If AR continued to develop this year in games he would pass peytons rookie int number and the colts fans would be pissed they lose game when they have stars offensively and defensively on the roster. The best bet is he tries again next year after watching Flacco play the year out, if he studies how Flacco plays he can be viable one day
I have a theory on why the Colts took AR, when it's clear now they should not have: The Colts painted themselves into a PR corner with their fanbase because of how they'd misfired 3 years in a row signing old re-tread QBs. Because of this hey HAD to take a QB with their #1 pick in 2023 or risk mutiny from their entire fanbase, who were flat tired of the 1 and done retreads. I think, once Bryce Young and Stroud were off the board, all that was left as defensible 1st rounders were AR & Will Levis, both of whom were huge gambles. The Colts simply took the one with the highest upside. Now we're seeing how that's played out. AR, as much of an athlete as he is, simply IS NOT an NFL level QB talent.
This year is not about winning the Superbowl for the Colts, it is about making the playoffs. They are 3-3 and in 8th place in the AFC, with the top 7 teams making the playoffs. They've beat the Steelers. Playing Flacco increases the chance of hitting the season goal. You wanna see AR get set back? Send him out there and watch him throw a few more game-losing picks...
Drafting Richardson was a waste.. Letting him start 10 games was a waste.. Benching him was the smartest thing the Colts have done since Luck retired.. AR will never be an elite QB in the NFL.. He doesn't have enough football experience or football knowledge.. I wouldn't be surprised if AR never takes another snap as a Colt.. I believe we are done with him..
Richardson was already a waste. This guy talking sounds clueless and sounds like he's part of the problem in the NFL. You don't throw the other 52 guy's year away because you're trying nurse one guy. This guy sounds just like a QB. "It's all about us. Screw the other 52."
The lesson here is that teams should not be drafting these college QBs with so little college playtime. The 49ers did this with Trey Lance, and now the Colts with Richardson.
Bryce Young and CJ Stroud had about the same playing time in college. Also interesting vid called "10 QBs you had no clue barely played college football". The NFL is just a meat grinder.
Or at least, if you draft a QB with very little playing time in college, be prepared for extensive on-the-job training; in other words, STOP EXPECTING THEM TO SAVE YOUR FRANCHISE FROM DAY ONE!!
1) they have guaranteed contracts (for as long as it is) and 2) do what's best for the team If Starting AR is best for the team, then they should. Not saying it is, but if it is, you should. Its dumb to get a project, start him immediately when no one thought you should, then bench him. If they go 9-8 and squeak in, it's kind of a waste...like he said
If you’re worried about losing your job 1.5 years after drafting the most raw QB that’s ever been draft eligible 4th overall…that’s an ownership/management issue.
I like Jordan and I think he has a lot of good takes and info on players. This one is dead wrong. Playing Joe is about keeping the team alive. That locker room was going to go sour if you kept playing a kid that just quit. The guy had 2 completions in a HALF of football AND sat himself cause he was tired.
Hard disagree. "Quit" is a sensational take and it's comedic how media runs with stuff to gain clicks and revenue. Unadvisable moment? Yes. Mistake? Yes. Quit? Let's cut the melodrama.
@@marvinrhodesjr But lets be honest it doesnt matter what the media or you and I think. Do those lineman think he quit??? because they cant tap out and take a play off. And i'm gonna say yes because they pulled the plug
@ I think it’s not that deep. Real ones don’t take a hard stance against a young teammate because he had a misstep. That’s in life and in sports. I don’t care what the media or these former players say, if they ever rocked with AR, they will walk him through it, help build him up and be in his corner to make sure he gets better from this.
I cannot *believe* how hard the sports media has collectively decided the Colts were wrong to bench Richardson. It is literally crazy talk. First, this is a guy who just quit on his team. To repeat: He. Quit. On. His. Team. This was bad when I was playing U-12 soccer as a kid. I cannot begin to imagine how badly that goes down in an NFL locker room. This *had* to happen if the Colts didn't want a revolt. Second, I don't want to hear any "but Josh Allen" comparisons. Stop. Josh Allen didn't have the best start, but his issues were the typical rookie-QB problems of struggling to read NFL defenses and relying on his athleticism too much. They were not "starting a game 2/15" or "routinely airmailing passes a high-schooler would easily make" problems. Third, we don't know what's going on in the building. Maybe the Colts know something we don't. It's easy enough to say "give him reps," but what if Richardson is JaMarcus Russell 2.0 behind the scenes and never studies or puts in the work?
They aren't.. Most of the knowledgeable and well-respected members of the sports media are saying we should have benched him sooner.. The guy is not and will never be an NFL level QB.. He would be an unstoppable TE, but his ego is too big to change positions.. I hope we trade him if we can even find anyone who wants him.. He's not even good enough to be a backup in my opinion..
Mister Palmer he is not a good passer which is a talent problem so he can practice behind a good passer and then you talk about players that did well as rookies but what about the dozens of QBs that were ruined by going in to early. That doesn't even take into account that his locker room won't like his taking himself out of the game. I'm not a player but all the ex players on Colt fan Pat McAffee's show to a man were livid with him quitting on the team. Darnold played well with San Fran and now Minnesota because they are far better teams than where he struggled so another wrong take by you.
JP your hat is on too tight. AR is a bust. Asking the Colts fans to buy tickets to watch their team lose so they can give a broken rookie a chance to get some experience? I guess if you're willing to put your money where your mouth is and buy their tickets for them to watch the other team win, well then maybe you might be worth listening to.
Colts knew AR didn't have many college reps. They drafted him for his physical attributes. That means you have to intelligently develop him during his rookie contract. Not throw him in as QB 1 from day one. Regardless of pressure from the impatient fans. The QB's that are great from day one are the outliers, not the rule.

AR was a bad gamble
The cards are still on the table. Nothing is lost yet
"Obviously he has not played great." -- 44% completion percentage, lowest rated starter in the NFL.
Richardson was already a waste. This guy talking sounds clueless and sounds like he's part of the problem in the NFL. You don't throw the other 52 guy's year away because you're trying nurse one guy. This guy sounds just like a QB. "It's all about us. Screw the other 52."

disagree the draft is a crapshoot

@Quinn37 Young is also a bust, and Stroud isn't doing anything to brag about..
@MarkLada this is precisely my point. They both played a lot of football.
The two of you aren't the ones that get fired for losing.
yup
1) they have guaranteed contracts (for as long as it is) and 2) do what's best for the team

They shoula had a plan for this very thing. Failure by management
I’m sorry, it was literally Shane who sold the Colts on drafting AR. He’s the one that made this move to bench him.

AR should have been drafted in the 6th round.
Undrafted FA

Kind of a hot garbage take by Palmer. Dude needs more reps? He took himself out. Nobody cares to see someone get better who cant put in some effort.
How did the SB MVP for the Baltimore Ravens not play at a high level for Baltimore?
Hot take Capt. Obvious!!!
AR bad quarterback with a bad coach
Fans are being way too dramatic about the tap out. It should not have happened but he was just naive and needed a play off. He didnt quit!
Pro Players strongly diagree with you opemly so I will believe them
I watched Jordan palmer qb school week 8 this dude breaks it down the best

I agree, but how didnt they see this coming? AR struggling should not have been a surprise
The fact is that not developing Anthony Richardson & starting him on the fly it is a huge mistake.
Rich... you have to do better. JP? Seriously Rich?
What wrong with Palmer. He trains Josh Allen and Joe burrow in the off-season. That’s pretty good.
So I guess the reason Jordan sucked at football is because he never played.
I liked AR and I but the Colts want still want Manning back.
The only way you get better at football is by playing football.
