    I'd love to see drone footage of the castle. Stories of witch trials are so horrifying. Thanks for this beautiful video!

    This is an amazing biography of Rothesay. I'm a long time visitor(child&adult) and your telling of the history of the island was a great informer to me and I dare say many many other people. This place means a lot to me and others, and you didn't half do your homework on the Holiday isle. I'm grateful for your insight. It's hard not to recognise the stunning beauty of the different aspects of the island, I hope you seen it as a valid place for you and your man to spend quality time together and not just another itinerary !

    "Madeleine Smith , the famous Edinburgh lady Killer"? I think she was Glasgow. And Haakon was king of Norway. Despite these quibbles, I thank you for bringing back so many good memories

    Fantastic video! Love how Wrecks checked the bed to make sure it was suitable! And like you, curiosity would've got the better of me at the Victorian toilets. They're stunning. Another excellent video.

    Well many thanks for the video, l think Rothesay is really trimendous I've been there, I've also stayed there for a week & whilst there l went out to Ettrick Bay for my lunch which is very good, the cafe is just off the beach, now if you would like to go out to Ettrick Bay, if you come off Rothsay pier turn right & keep on that road till you come to a fork on the road, take the left fork & keep on that road till you come to a lot of hedges on the left hand side of the road & Ettrick Bay cafe is on the left hand side of the road, whare there is plenty of parking so enjoy yourself at the cafe, also there is a nice big beach, also some times when the tide is out small planes land and take off from the beach so enjoy your stay on Rothesay.

      An update on the road to Ettrick Bay when you come to the fork on the road keep on that road till you come to a sign for Ettrick Bay, then turn left & keep on that road till you come to the cafe @ Ettrick Bay cafe.

    Another interesting video. Did you know that there is a open topped bus tour, which takes you around Bute?

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory
      @ExploringScotlandsHistory  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, but I enjoyed walking laps of the town, its a great place!
      Tbf, since I do a fair bit of research before I leave the house, I find the guides on these buses to be a bit loud and invasive, they are a handy tourist commodity, just not my thing. Thanks for watching Claire.

      @@ExploringScotlandsHistory I've been over to Rothesay a couple of times myself. I'm still waiting for the castle to reopen as well. I want to do a video in there myself. Rothesay needs some TLC, but it is a wee place with so much history.

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory

      @AScottishOdyssey The castle won't stay closed much longer I imagine. The ones that have a charge to get in appear to be getting sorted a darn sight more quickly than the free sites. Aye, we watched your 'museum' one to make sure there were bits on the various sites we planned to visit on our wee escape 😊

      Ah, you would have had a tour of the decoy pill boxes. We will be back to do that walk. Unfortunately the area had 'no dogs' signs, and we weren't leaving Wrecks in the car for hours.

    Was there last week. Bu's beautiful, but Rothesay is tired and worn. It's areal shame I remember the place from when I was a boy. It was a pretty place then.

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory
      @ExploringScotlandsHistory  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Like most seaside towns, it's up to the individual to find the beauty. Such a lack of investment in these gorgeous places, despite the push for tourism as a whole.

    Hi I visited the isle of Bute for the first time this year and liked the Island however I was totally unimpressed with Rothesay, apart from the promenade which is beautiful, I found it extremely run down and dilapidated in desperate need of investment.

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory
      @ExploringScotlandsHistory  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You had a different experience than we had, that's unfortunate. We tend to look for beauty and unusual history wherever we go, though. Most 'holiday' towns and villages everywhere suffer from the same lack of investment, unfortunately. I live in Argyll and am well aware that investing in infrastructure doesn't appear to be high on the council's priority list.

    Rothesay looks amazing but living there is another story.Sadly it's a dying community with no hope of salvation

    • @ExploringScotlandsHistory

      I'm sorry you don't enjoy living there. We live in Oban, and unfortunately areas that rely heavily on tourism and retirees are all heading downhill.
