I stumbled on this and got led down an all day rabbit hole that ended with me successfully booting my old backup server from an NVME drive. Nicely done and thanks for the links to the forums as that was instrumental.
I'm SOOOOO glad I found this, I came across the guys vid earlier today and was a bit lost.. Great vid explaining everything and will be sure to get a bios sorted asap.. Thank you !! Sub'd liked
@@cs.studios I know the adapter you got there, has a on board chip to allow use of the 2 nvme. But I see cheaper ones that have 2 nvme - would the that be seen as 1 drive with them.. Or would they only work on a board with Bifurcation.. Any help, suggestions welcome.
Nice! Was wondering if there was some restrictions on the make and model of NVME SSD drives? About to pimp an ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution workstation with a XEON X5690.
It's such a shame the original DUET/REFIND guides all seem to be gone, especially the one from years ago that was IIRC on the win-raid forums. I just tried the latest guide and refind hangs on "xxxxxx bytes of system memory tested OK"...
I had this same issue using duet on my sr-2 build..i fixed it just by updating to the latest version which fixed my issue. I recommend checking to see if you have the latest build
@@cs.studios Hi ! Very nice upgrade ! Can you please elaborate on what in the specification makes the card run at full speed / faster than the cheap model? Is it because it's "dual" (but I thought its not related as it's for 2 NVME drives)? I'd like to be able to understand what to look for in the specifications so I can pick my own model of adapter. Is it simply the speed, regardless of single/dual? Thanks !
Sweet just got an X5680 for $15 to throw on my old sabertooth w/ 48 gb ECC DDR3 1333. Going to see if I can get this thing to play Diablo 4 w/ a newer graphics card and 1 TB NVME. Wish me luck!
@@cs.studios I read about another way that lets you boot off a SATA drive to get uefi also, including booting from these nvme. I think that would be even better, but I have to research it more. Uefi might then allow video cards to use the resizable bar feature. To me, that would be more useful than nvme
how long does it normally take for the guy to get back to u with the modded bios i requested one for a gigabyte x58 board 2 days ago so far haven't heard anything back.
@@coxyofnewp no. apparently there was a huge earth quake in turkey and that is were the guy is from. so not sure if or when he is going to be back working on this again. he hasn't logged in to techpower up in over a week. hopefully the guy is ok and will come back at some point.
My board is a PCware Flame and I discovered that it is a copy of the Foxconn Flaming Blade, master Ismail already created the BIOS for, however, for a different nvme than mine 😔 I have a KC3000. What should I do?
Hello! Have you lagecy BIOS or UEFI? Becouse it's look like uefi. There is not difficult to inklude NVME drive in UEFI bios, But very difficult in Lagecy...( I have Award on board and can't start from NVME / not duet, not clover...😓😓😓😓
Now we're just waiting for them to release TPM 2.0 bios mods for X58 so we can actually use the damn TPM 1.2 connectors for TPM 2 modules and be able to play the god awful game called Valorant
Это обычный рэйд контроллер на дисках nvme. Он и без обновления биос обязан работать. Кастомный биос я прошивал для прямой связи nvme ssd с материнкой и в моём случае asus sabertooth x58 с ними работает.

Your videos are a breath of fresh air, love x58, love mac pro stuff. I had a wee browse of your videos :) keep up the great work
Thanks! Got part 3 coming eventually with some more upgrades. Also buying a 1st gen laptop and upgrading cpu/gpu as well

I ended up taking out nvme on the x58 and put it in my SR-2. You’ll see why in part 3…all three pcie slots are filled now with something 😁

Equipping an NVME PCIe SSD (capped at 2.5 GB/s) on an X58 board? What a novel way to keep the old platforms alive!
Oh man, been waiting for this.
You are a technological angel!
Thanks!!
fantastic work!

Wow...those speeds look unreal to me. I thought x58 can't surpass 2gb/s.
Nice work 😊
It’s an expensive card that converts pcie 2.0 x8 into a pcie 3.0 x4 so it runs at full speeds
@@cs.studios I'm surprised. I didn't know something like that would be possible :)
@@cs.studiosdid you clone your hard drive or did you do a fresh install on the nvme?

Nice, it should play anything that doesn’t require AVX with a modern gpu
Dang im really interested in doing this. i love x58 platforms. I wonder if i can do this with a gigabyte x58-ud5
Should be able to, just need bios mod

I have the "Asus P6T" motherboard.
Bu unfortunally there is no bios to support NVMe booting
You can try posting to see if anyone can make a modded bios on the forums
@@cs.studios Thank you.
I will try that.
@@opoxious1592I have a p6t also, did you have any luck?
Isn't that PCIe port 2.0? How are you getting full speed 3300mb/s?
The adapter I’m using is an expensive one. It takes a PCIe 2.0 x8 port and converts it to PCIe 3.0 x4 so it allows full speeds
I have an x58a-ud7 gigabyte flash the custom bios, but not work
You need to request a modified version on the forum for your specific ssd
Would this be possibly for intel dq45cb?

Hi,
Can this be done with Dell T3500 motherboard? It's using X58 Chipset too, but I did not find DELL name in that website's list.
Technically yes but someone has to mod the bios file
